My sketching skills will assist in developing creative ideas that visually communicate a concept. Using tools like Photoshop, Illustrator and Solidworks will help illustrate a final rendering to the team and/or client. My modeling techniques will aid in proportional studies, ergonomics and surface language.

What I can offer...

Formula SAE is a student design competition organized by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). The concept behind Formula SAE is that a fictional manufacturing company has contracted a design team to develop a small Formula-style race car. The prototype race car is to be evaluated for its viability for production. Each student team designs, builds and tests a prototype based on a series of rules whose purpose is to promote clever problem solving amongst the students as well as to ensure the smooth operation of the event.

Formula SAE“From the beginning my renderings shared the same vision to the team of what the form of the vehicle will soon become. I also heavily contributed to fiberglassing the body because I had experience from previous projects. It was a great opportunity to grasp the potential fellowship between designers and engineers through the hands-on problem solving that has gone on between all of us as one cohesive team. All the while, gaining insight into project management we could not get in the normal classroom experience.”

This form study explores various methods of observation, analysis, visualization and development of form. Observation consists of receiving knowledge from the outside world through the senses. Through observation comes the analytical approach which results in a logical blue print to respond to the aesthetics and/or ethics.

The next step is visually communicating the concepts through sketches and the construction of mockups. The last method is the development of form, which follows various approaches such as structure, surface, transition, proportion, and gesture.

The objective is to understand the creating process, manufacturing, its involvement within the environment, and how the user interacts with the product. The consumer product chosen is a small household appliance called an electric iron.

“I was able to purchase two irons, one to take apart and one to study the life of the product in its environment. Exploded views help to interpret processes, materials and connection. Time of assembly and drafting were also incorporated in the reverse engineering report.”

The CityGear Backpack is to help cyclists to travel in a symbiotic environment. It focuses in on cycling and looking at ways to increase safety in a busy environment surrounded by distracted drivers in motor vehicles. This three week assignment focuses on solving a problem and implementing nature to conceive a symbiotic environment between the cyclist and vehicle.

Bioluminscense sparked the inspiration of how to solve the problem of the miscommunication between the cyclist and motor vehicle. The final configurations of what the product must achieve were drawn in photoshop. Next was to generate a form that must define a new aesthetic.

“Using my artistic side of the brain, the blue-Sky ideation played a vital role in defining a new aesthetic. Next step was to think logically to figure out the manufacturing process and how the CityGear Backpack will assemble.”

“Making this model was the exciting part of this project. Creating it was more of a surprise to me than anybody else. I achieved a superior prototype that challenged me to never give up because there is always a solution to a creation.”

The Medical Badge concept notifies the nurse, who relays the message from the emergency transport (helicopter/ambulance), to the doctor and the surgeons who are ready to operate on the patient before they arrive at the hospital.

This Medical Badge is explained to client through a story that has an easily understood concept. Using a mixture of photography and illustration helped me composite the final solution to this comic book style inspiration.
