Color Analysis

ObjectivesTo discern color range, intensity, scheme and

composition of a work of art.To develop a color palette based on a specific

inspirational pieceTo understand the various color relationships. To understand the emotions tied to various colors. To identify examples of color relationships in fashion

(home furnishings) that elicit the feelings and emotions discussed for each color.

Learning outcomesThe color relationship is analogous. The inspirational piece was “Evening lounge “ which

gives us a feeling of sophistication and confidence as well as the feeling of waiting and longing.

The new color forecast uses Passion Fruit, Nectarine, Dirty Martini and Licorice.

Each piece represents the use of both the new forecast colors and the use of analogous color with neutrals.

Line and Space

ObjectivesTo comprehend how important a role Line plays in the

creative process. To understand how Space affects a work of art.To appreciate how Line expresses feelings and

emotions. To recognize how Line and Space can communicate

symbolic meanings. To value how products convey the intended image.

Learning OutcomesThe diagonal lines create an energetic theme moving

your eyes around and giving a sense of constant movement.

The diagonal lines on their own create a sense of strength and motion, but the variety of weight and random spacing of the lines throughout the page help create the dynamic emotional sensation.

Each element of the page is layered or shadowed to create the sense of implied space making it feel like there is some depth to the flat surface.

Shape and Form

ObjectivesTo recognize how shape and form can communicate

symbolic meaning. To value how products convey the intended shape and

form.To create the intended shape and form to capture an.

Attractive impression through aesthetic experience.

Learning OutcomesThe theme is abstract created by the inspirational piece

Passport Bora Bora depicting a sunset over the ocean which would be easily recognized by anyone, but taking out the important colors and shapes to exaggerate the importance of them.

The shapes created are abstract taking a recognizable shape such as the shoe such as the Christian Louboutin shoe featured and turning it into something that is not immediately recognized as such.

Texture

ObjectivesTo identify the importance of using the various textures

in promoting one overall image or mood.To discover new and upcoming texture trends in the

fashion and home furnishings industryTo comprehend how textures convey expressive and

symbolic qualities. To understand the difference between tactile and visual

texture.

DescriptionsRuching is a fun way to add interest to a garment while

keeping it sexy and showing off curves. Though ruching can be found in garments for any age group they are best fitted for the younger adult woman.

The trend of ruching seems to be one that will stick around for a while. It can be done in so many different ways that it can be appropriate for almost any garment from shoes to jackets to formal dresses.

Ruching makes a tactile texture with the fabric and can be done with a variety of fabrics. The fabrics shown on the board were all selected based on their ability to be pliable and therefore capable of being used for ruching. The fabrics most appropriate for ruching are satin and silks which are the most flexible and have the best drape to work with, but not limited to those. Leather is also a great edgy material to use ruching on as seen with the boots and the jacket.

Feminine and edgy would best describe the expressive qualities in this trend board. The ruching can make a dress such as the little blue one on the top left or the black leather jacket center bottom a little more edgy while the flowing metallic gown in the center and the red gown to the left are very feminine.

Balance, Rhythm and Emphasis. To understand the variety of Balance, for example,

symmetrical, asymmetrical, horizontal, vertical and radial balance.

To understand types of rhythm, for example, metric, flowing, swirling and climatic rhythm.

To understand how Emphasis can be achieved by color, light, shape, and created by contrast, isolation and placement.

Learning outcomesBalance can be shown through many different ways

in design from balancing the weight and shape of a design or the color.

Emphasis is done by changing the color on the belt as shown in the picture to emphasis the waist of the model.

Rhythm is shown through the repetition of the rectangular sequins in the models dress.

element. To recognize how Variety can be achieved through contrast of the design

elements. To comprehend how unity and variety are displayed in apparel. To create the intended unity and variety to capture an attractive impression

through aesthetics

Learning outcomes Unity can be shown through several different ways in design such as color,

line or shape. The dresses across the top show unity through the same hot pink color.

Variety is shown through mixing up the style, pattern, shapes and colors. The dresses across the bottom left all show variety through the unique shapes as well as the unusual patterns of different colors.

Consumer Studies in Apparel and Home Furnishings

Anthropologie

ObjectivesPinpoint, analyze, predict and deliver on

customer needs, wants and desires.Understand the consumer and tailor

shopping experiences, products and marketing efforts for the specific demographic

OutcomesThe demographic of the Anthropologie store

located in North Park Mall in Dallas, TX has a slightly lower age group than the target of the company as a whole.

The most commonly purchased items from this younger age group were from the home furnishings line.

New visual merchandising would wind the home furnishings throughout the store and have every display incorporate apparel and décor.

We feel that there is still a need for some separation of the apparel and furnishings, but overlapping the two areas can double chances for purchases.
