I have always been fascinated with the idea of dimension and the transformation of one dimension into the next. Points construct a line, lines construct a shape, and shapes construct the physical form of everything in the world. In the same way, ideas grow into a vision, visions grow into a plan and plans grow into the architecture of our society. I have always been fascinated with the subject of architecture.

RIVERSIDE LIBRARY 4A STUDIO FINAL
Located in the Ostiense neighborhood just south of the city walls of Rome, this project in two parts attempts to improve the urban quality of the this area. The first part is to introduce an intervention that remedies the current pedestrian and vehicular flow and to add some complexity to the urban interaction by re-connecting the neighborhood to the Tiber river. The second part is to design a library for the Roma Tre University that is also available to general population.
Some of the identified issues with the site include: streetscape being over-populated with car parking, very limited pedestrian-friendly walking spaces, isolation from the Tiber river, and the lack of an intervention that connects all the culturally iconic buildings under a coherent system throughout the entire neighborhood.
My approach is to transform the central part of Via Ostiense into an “Urban Green Spine”, a landscaped island that improves the pedestrian circulation and quality in the neighborhood. Tram lines are introduced to serve as the encouraged means of transporation to and from each end of the neighborhood, with stops near culturally iconic sites.

The Riverside Library as the second part of this project aims to not only provide a library space for the nearby university, but also to serve as a public gathering point that reconnects the entire neighborhood to the beautiful natural scenery of the Tiber river. The architectural form of this library resembles a gently sloped hill that, with landscaped rooftop and an underpass, creates multi-level platforms leading visitors to enjoy views or recreational activities along the river.

The Promenade Graffiti Gallery is a large urban commercial mixed-use that aims to encourage a greater public interaction with the stereo-typically static office tower. By introducing a promenade-styled gallery that spirals around the base of the office tower, the pedestrian movement from the street level is easily channeled up into the available public spaces in the first three levels.

Little Wooden House is a response to the effects of the typical Canadian winter climate on residential wood frame construction. It proposes an ideal method and amount of insulation for the wood frame house envelope that far surpasses the requirements in the building code.
