The first part of the project is a book that introduces us to the problem of walking stressfully on a crowded street. The second part is a guidebook that works similarly to a book that is trying to teach us new skills, like doing Yoga. In a sarcastic and funny way, I

This project is a result of the Jostling Project. One of the many reasons why we live a stressful and rushed lifestyle is due to bad time manage-ment. Digital calendars are only visible on our laptops or on our advanced mobile phones, like the iPhone. Therefore one solution that
would help us to organize our limited time we have left in a 24 hour day in a much more efficient way.

Magnetism
The fridge door is used as a stereotype for how we think about magnetism. However there is much more to it than meets the eye. The section on the right explains how many unex-pected everyday objects contain magnets. In order to reveal this a simple reader

has to be used that contains metal powder. The images and the text are printed with magnetic ink.
Magnets are very fascinating and interesting elements they
have been used for so many functions you would not think about
as well as for having fun. Magnets are any objects be it a
permanent magnet or an ekectromagnet, which has a magnetic
field.
Magnects are attracted or repelled by other objects. When that
object can attract or repel a magnet is said that such object have
high permeability, iron and steel are examples of those.
All types of magnets have two poles, tumed bipoles, they are
south pole an north pole. Even if a magnet is reduced to a
molecular size there would still be two oposin poles.
Similar poles would repel one another while dissimilar poles would
attract eachother and make them stick together.
An electric current will always produce magnetic field. Magnetism
made in this way is called electromagnetism; a magnet created
in this way is called an electro magnet. Permanent magnets do
not need electricity, so why would anyone want to use a magnet
that works only when a current passes through it?
In fact, electromagnets can do many things that permanents
magnets cannot. You can switch an electromagnet on and of, so
that, so it works only when you want it to. Also, changing the
strength of the current alters the strength of the magnetism.

One use of electromagnetism is in electric doorbell.
When visitor rings, a current flows through the
electromagnet. An iron bar linked to a hammer is
attracted by the magnetic field, and the bell is struck.
The circuit is now broken, the magnet is now
switched off, and the iron bar springs back. The whole
process repeats rapidly to make a continuous ringing
sound.
As well as electricity make magnetism,
magnetism can make electricity too.
This is used by vending machines to
recognize coins. The coin passes through a
magnetic field. This sets up an electric
current. This inturn produces a magnetic
field which shows the coin down. Genuine
coins are slowed by just the right amount to
fall into the next part of the machine. Other
coins fall into a reject chute.
An electromagnetism can tell car drivers
how much petrol they have left.
An electromagnet sits inside a permanent
magnet. A current flows through the
electromagnet, which than turn towards
permanent magnet. The amount it turns
depends on the strength of the current.
Inside the petrol tank, a float moves a
variable resistor to control the current
flowing through
the fuel meter. When the fuel
level is high, a high current
flows, causing a large
defection of the
pointer.
In an airport, you may have to walk through a metal
detecting arch on your way to the plane. Inside the
arch are large coils of wire carrying an electic
current. If a person walks through the arch with a
gun concealed in their pocket, the metal in the gun
alters the electromagnetism produced by the coils.
This change can be detected and an alarm will
sound..

A loud speaker changes electrical signals into sound waves. The
signals pass through a coin which is wound around the neck of a
paper cone. This coil acts as an electromagnet. Nearby is a strong
permanent magnet. When the current flows one way, the magnetic
forces push the elctromagnet and the cone outwrds. When the
current flows the otherway, the cone is pulled inward. The vibration
of the cone form sound vawes. The microphone has the same
concept but is done in a reverse manner.
A surgeon may use an
electromagnet to remove steel
splinter from a person’s eye.
Once the electromagnet is in
the right place, a current is
passed through it. The
powerful magnetism pulls the
metal from the eye.
