Children £3 (all tickets include refreshments). TEIGN Choral Society was founded in 1955 and to celebrate their diamond jubilee they have invited friends from Kingsteignton’s Choir 86 to join them in performing the well loved Vivaldi Gloria, and beautiful works by Bizet and Schubert. A Rogers and Hammerstein medley (Oklahoma, Sound of Music etc etc including There is Nothing Like a Dame) will add extra oomph! Wonderful tunes that were very popular in 1955. Four very good soloists will really complement the work of the choir with their artistry and dramatic interpretation. The two choirs and soloists will be accompanied by an orchestra and Aubrey Maybin on continuo and all will be directed by conductor David Bowles. It should be a memorable evening, the society looking back on its 60 years of achievement and eagerly anticipating the next 60. The society will be holding a members’ social at the Alice Cross Centre on Wednesday, May 20. It is a very informal event and former members who would like to attend would be most welcome. Please let Nigel Berryman know (01626 773286) by SINGERS CELEBRATE DIAMOND JUBILEE May 16 if you would like to come to the social. IN JUST over a fortnight, the Mayor of Exmouth, Bill Nash, will announce cider festival, Scrumpstock open at 5pm on Friday, May 15 for a weekend of festivities at Exmouth Rugby Club. Exmouth’s Town Crier will also be in attendance. Exmouth’s Mayor Bill Nash said: ‘Exmouth Town Council is dedicated to sup- porting activities for residents and visitors alike in Exmouth. We welcome the Scrump- stock Festival at the Exmouth Rugby Club and wish it every success.’ Adults attending the festival can bring under 18 year olds in for free to enjoy puppet shows by Rattlebox Theatre, one featuring a pirate nun, face-painting, bubbles, games stalls, music, food and soft drinks. To support young adults over the age of 18, Scrumpstock is benefitting Devon-based char- ity, the Snooky Trust, which was set up in memory of charity founder Caz Steffens’ brother Chris Snook, who died aged 27. Following the severe storms in early 2014, The Snooky Trust worked with Dawlish Town Council to help 46 people who had to flee their destroyed seafront homes and were left with just the clothes in which they were standing. Caz said she was overwhelmed and humbled by people donating food, toiletries, clothing and bedding. As well as diverse musical acts performing at the festival, there are jam sessions on the Saturday and Sunday for festival-goers who want to make their own music. Just confirmed are folk pop indie band Bonsai Pirates from Bournemouth, Boy Le Monti from North Dorset who play old skool ska and rocksteady, Jamaican dance music of the sixties, and Whack Turkey from South Wales, whose act is known as The Rapture. In terms of food there will be Devon’s own Westaways, famed for their gourmet pork sausages in freshly baked rolls. Fans of pies and pasties will find Chunk of Devon from nearby Ottery St Mary, with vari- eties including steak, chicken, sausage and ham, as well as their award-winning roasted vegetable pasty.
