Port Wakefield ambo numbers at
critical low
SA Ambulance Service is urgently seeking
people from Port Wakefield to volunteer their
time to train and provide ambulance services to
the local community. Colin Smith, SA
Ambulance Service regional team leader for
Adelaide Plains, said the ambulance station at
Port Wakefield only had five volunteer
ambulance officers. “Port Wakefield is only able
to provide a local crew two or three nights a
week. They don’t have enough team members,”
said Mr. Smith. “The current amount of
volunteers at Port Wakefield station is
unsustainable and therefore the station is at
risk of closing down because there aren’t
enough people to fill the roster. “While an
ambulance will always come when someone
calls triple-zero (000) for assistance, there may
be delays if there is no local crew available to
respond. Bronwyn Olsen, 54, has been a
volunteer ambulance officer at Port Wakefield
for nearly nine years and said there was a lot to
enjoy about volunteering, but it was hard with
so few people. “We’d like about three more
volunteers. That would help us out no end, it
would really take the pressure off,” said Ms
Olsen. “It’s very gratifying when you’ve been
able to help someone when they’re at their
most vulnerable.”
For more information about becoming an
ambulance volunteer, contact Colin Smith on
0418 851 769 or the SA Ambulance Service
volunteer recruitment hotline on 1800 655 306.

Where do pine nuts come from? There are two varieties of pine nut, the Mediterranean and the Chinese. The Mediterranean is more common in Australia. As the name suggests, pine nuts come from pine trees – the Mediterranean comes from the stone pine. The nut is located inside the cone. Pine nuts are relatively expensive because the cones have to be heated to release the nut – a labour-intensive process. Buy pine nuts in small quantities, as their high fat content causes them to go rancid quite quickly. Store in the fridge for 1 month or freeze for 6 months.

Working Bee at Tidal Pool
Many thanks to around 25 people who turned up to help clean around the tidal pool on Saturday morning. The area now looks fantastic and over time I'm sure we can get the bottom much cleaner. This area is definitely one of our towns biggest assets .... Thanks Vicki for cooking the BBQ while my car was bogged ...... Doh !!! Don’t forget to water your street trees With the warmer weather fast approaching it is time to consider your street trees.
We all require water in the hot weather and so do our street trees.
A bucket of water once a week should make the trees
happy and a bucket of water twice a week will make them very healthy and happy.

Happy Birthday was the first song to be
performed in outer space. It was sung by the Apollo IX astronauts on March 8, 1969. If a surgeon in Ancient Egypt lost a patient while performing an operation, his hands were cut off as punishment.
