Bridge Abutments on both sides of the bridge • Excavate footings, drill holes (piles) and fill with reinforcing steel and concrete • Build abutment footing and walls with reinforcing steel and concrete • Backfill dirt around the sides and front of the abutment 2. Center Columns • Build footing with reinforcing steel and concrete • Build columns with reinforcing cage and concrete 3. Bridge Structure including Deck (including utilities) • Build temporary supports (falsework) including steel beams and timber posts* • Build deck bottom (soffit) and sides (exterior girder and interior stem walls) with reinforcing steel and concrete • Install utilities going through the bridge (water and gas) • Build top deck using reinforcing steel and concrete • Cure concrete for 10-28 days • Remove temporary falsework including steel beams and timber posts* • Build sidewalks and railing; Install fencing and lighting • Rebuild the approaches to the bridge and perform final cleanup work • Reconnect utilities – gas, water, electricity, phone, cable * This work requires full freeway closure in one direction.
