What Has Been Done To Cure These Ailments?

• Subway Closures-Renovations/Refurbishment

– Often cause severe delays in service

– In 2005, according to the MTA budget, repairs will cost approximately $35.5 Million (does not include cost of buildings, etc.).

• 2005 Costs To Repair Tracks Damaged From Fire: Approximately $55.8 Million.

• Garbage Receptacles Placed in Subways for Garbage.

• Signs: “Help Keep Our Subways Clean.”

– Cut salaries of top management.

• Better oversight of construction-see where the funds are going, and that the job is done right the first time.

– Community service-Make them clean the subway-a cost free source of labor.

– Higher fines-raise more funds for the cleanup.

– Rides over tracks, and vacuums up garbage-designed to let water flow back out.
