The Department of Commerce was established in 1981 along with B.A. There
were 62 students in the first batch, since it was just founded. Mrs Irene D‟Sa was
appointed as the full time Lecturer in Commerce. She managed all the subjects of
the department. In 1982, Mrs Mable Rodrigues was appointed as the full time
lecturer. She taught the Commerce subjects. Other subjects were taught by part-
time lecturer depending on the work load.
The Commercial Law paper was taught by a lawyer, Mr B.V. Pinto from
Mangalore. He served the institution for 3 years. Statistics was taught by Mr
Jayaram Bhat from Bajpe. In 1983, the Department of Commerce became a full-
pledged department. Mr Jagadeesha Holla was appointed as the full- time lecturer.
In the meantime, Mrs Irene D‟Sa, Mrs Mable Rodrigues, left the department for
better prospects. In 1984, Mr Haribert Nazareth and in the year 1986, Mr B.
Herald D‟Souza were appointed as the full time lecturers.
As the admission to the Commerce subjects increased and doubled, next year
(1985) therefore, it was decided by the management to start an additional section in
the Commerce department. The permission was granted by the J.D.C.E. and the
university. Mr Vincent D‟ Souza was appointed as the full time lecturer in 1987,
but within 3 years another college nearby at a distance of 5 k.mtrs was founded at
Kateel. Therefore, the strength also came down. The section had to be closed. As a
result Mr Vincent D‟Souza had to be transferred to another college of same
Managemnt, St. Mary‟s College, Shirva.

Mr B. Herald D‟Souza are also working as full – time lecturers. Mr Haribert
Nazareth, who was working on his Ph.D thesis under the F.I.P. programme has
successfully completed his Ph.D. degree in the year 2006.
According to the management policy matters, our H.O.D. Mr Jagadeesha Holla
has been transferred to another college of the same management, St. Philomena
College, Puttur, in the year 2004, June. Mr Gunakar S. a lecturer from St.
Dept of Commerce

Philomena College, Puttur was transferred to our college by the management in his
place.
