  3. 3. Geography: Poland is a country in the centre of Europe Our neighbours are: Russia, Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Germany.
  4. 4. Flag: The Polish flag consists of two horizontal stripes of equal width, the upper one white and the lower one red.
  5. 5. Coat of arms: The White Eagle (Polish: orze) is the national coat of arms of Poland. It is a stylized white Eagle with a golden beak and fingers, and wearing a golden crown, in a red shield.

In 1796 Poland disappeared from the map of the world and did not exist as a political entity. It reappeared and regained its independence atin 1918 at the end of World War I.
  9. 9. After World War II Poland became a communist "people's republic". Since the fall of the Iron Curtain and the end of communism, the modern history of Poland begins. In November 1990, Lech Wasa was elected president for a five-year term and Poland's first free parliamentary was held in October 1991.
