Grafton Vintage Motor Vehicle Club Inc. Newsletter — April 2018
Held at Jabour Park Club Rooms South Grafton on the last Sunday of each month. See Coming Events for times.
All meetings are designated Club au-thorised runs. You may drive your histor-ic plated vehicles to and from the meet-ing.
President’s Report Another Month passes by, with a lot of activity by Members. The hot
weather has kept the mowers quite busy at Jabour Park.
The first of the Breakfast runs was a huge success with 20 members
attending the Ulmarra Hotel, on March 4th. I am sure will see more of
this event.
The Relay for life on the 24th March will provide an excellent exposure
for our Club. I have a list of members who are to assist in helping out in
the Canteen from Saturday Lunch time to 5.30am Sunday Morning. An-
yone wishing to join in this event, contact me & I will slot you in for a
time. (0427 665 200).
The February monthly meeting was attended by Jarrod French, as a
guest speaker on behalf of the Police Dept. Jarrod gave a most informa-
tive address followed by a demonstration & display of the current pursuit
vehicle.
Sunday March 25th
Monthly Meeting has a guest speaker from Fulton
Hogan at 4pm with information and update on the construction of the
new Grafton Bridge.
Ken Norton has an interesting run planned to tour the Kyogle Cinema on
the 15th April 2018 followed by a BBQ lunch & Movie. Names needed to
be into Ken for catering numbers.
On May 25th I have a group named (Golden Oldies) from the now de-
funct Central Coast Car Club, visiting & staying in the Jabour Park
Camp Ground. A Coach Tour has been organised to visit Tom & Lor-
raine Ravens, reconstructed Ravens Service Station & a morning tea.
Leaving Grafton and heading to Yamba to view Phil Redhead’s MG Col-
lection. Then to Lunch at the Yamba Tavern. Any Club Member’s want-
ing to join this trip, contact me Doug Clark 0427665200 so I can reserve
a spot for you. The Bus Tour and visits are $22 per person, the Lunch at
Yamba is your own expense.
The Club’s Defibrillator has arrived and the State Government subsidy
has been recognised, Training time for this Unit will be advised.
Members will notice changes have been affected in the Canteen by the
Wednesday working group, which will make better working conditions.
The Presidents Run has been locked in with booking made for 20 Vehi-
cles & 39 members attending. This will be a great weekend with a tour
up the Hinterland to Emerge at Nerang, accommodation at Sea World
Resort, Friday & Saturday nights, along with a booking at the Outback
Spectacular on Saturday night.
It is pleasing to see our membership is growing, with one to two new
members joining each week.
A donation of Motoring Books given to Peter Arnul from a friend of his
from Armidale has been shipped and delivered to our Library by Peter.
The Club desperately needs a Librarian to log these books in and
stamped as the Clubs Property & Stock.

At our February Club meeting at Jabour Park Club
members were treated to an insight of the Coffs/
Clarence Highway Patrol with Jarrod French—boss
of the Clarence region Highway Patrol.
I think the highlight was going over the $150,000
Highway Patrol car. Wow!!! A computer on wheels,
high speed wheels at that. I’d like to have a drive of
that bit of gear.
Peter Arnell had his Historic number plate checked
by the Police On Board Plate Scanner...and yes,
the Vanden Plas Princess was legal. The Police
plate scanner is linked to the RMS database of cars
and number plates. So, yes, if your membership
isn’t up to date then your Historic plates are invalid.
The Police are able to read H Plates
There are four Highway Patrol cars in the
entire Clarence Valley. Each is linked to
WiFi back at the station for fresh data up-
loads before each shift and data down-
loads at the end of shift.
The use of cameras on board has less-
ened the “He Said—She Said” dramas of
false accusations.
A very informative talk.

We awoke to fair weather and reports of huge seas
on the morning of our scheduled club run to Red
Rock on Sunday 18th February. Anticipation was in
the air even before the drive commenced with club
members Ian Gibbs, Kim Dahl & Graham Benn
sharing near-death experiences from their wild, mis-
spent youths when they thought they were bullet-
proof!
Kim set the tone for the day with his most colourful
board shorts which he put to good use later in the
day with a lazy float in Red Rock River before lunch.
It was lovely to be joined by some of the members’
families with Kim & Lyn Dahl’s daughter Bree & ba-
by Lilly joining us, as well as Eugene Christensen &
Liz’s son & grandkids.
We parked the cars on Red Rock oval and, as al-
ways, they attracted considerable attention. Our
first priority was setting up a great picnic spot on the
riverbank foreshore and enjoying morning tea.
Soon after, we noticed another group of vintage
cars arriving and, coincidentally, it turned out to be
members from the Coffs Harbour Veteran & Vintage
Car Club on their monthly club run. They recollect-
ed a cricket match, played some 10 years previous-
ly, between Grafton & Coffs Harbour clubs on the
Red Rock oval. Perhaps we could throw out a chal-
lenge to them for Round 2? Both clubs enjoyed
yarning about their respective cars and clubs. Our
members were keen to tell them about progress
made with the new club house and invite them to
our Motorfest in August.
Those members who had planned ahead and
brought their swimmers enjoyed a float with the in-
coming high tide to the boat ramp. The kids were
much more adventurous & climbed an overhanging
tree branch, jumping into a deep hole in the river
over & over again until they were dragged away for
lunch. They were not fazed by the carpet snake
sleeping nearby in the branches! The club’s BBQ
trailer came in very handy for our picnic lunch. The
cooks did a great job on the BBQ and everyone en-
joyed a splendid lunch.
Thanks so much to the organisers and to all the par-
ticipants who joined us on the day. We hope to see
even more members join us next time!

Breakfast Run To Ulmarra Pam Ayers Poem—Satnav
I have a little Sat-nav, it sits there in my car. A Sat-nav is a driver's friend it tells you where you are. I have a little Sat-nav, I've had it all my life. It's better than the normal ones, my Sat-nav is my wife. It gives me full instructions, especially how to drive "It's sixty miles an hour", it says, "You're doing sixty five". It tells me when to stop and start, and when to use the brake And tells me that it's never ever, safe to over-take. It tells me when a light is red, and when it goes to green It seems to know instinctively, just when to inter-vene. It lists the vehicles just in front, and all those to the rear. And taking this into account, it specifies my gear. I'm sure no other driver, has so helpful a device. For when we leave and lock the car, it still gives its advice. It fills me up with counselling, each journey's pretty fraught. So why don't I exchange it, and get a quieter sort? Ah well, you see, it cleans the house, makes sure I'm properly fed. It washes all my shirts and things, and keeps me warm in bed! Despite all these advantages, and my tendency to scoff, I only wish that now and then, I could turn the b***** off.
I must have been a good boy last week, as Sunday dawned
with glorious weather. Fourteen of us assembled at Jabour
Park at 9am in eight cars. Eugene and Liz advised that they
would meet us at Woolgoolga, so that made a total of 16.
We travelled down in convoy and reached Woolgoolga about
10am. We decided to have morning tea at the shelter shed on
the green near the Sea Rescue headquarters, instead of the
headland, as it was less windy and closer to the toilets for our
aging bladders. It was a very pleasant morning as we all
stood/sat around having a chat – telling a few lies and just
enjoying the view.
After morning tea, we headed up to the Yarrawarrah Aborigi-
nal Cultural Centre for lunch. Before lunch we had a look
around the gallery, which had a very interesting display. Some
of us made a few purchases and then headed to the verandah
for lunch. Our host, Glen, was very welcoming, as were the
wait staff. Most of us opted for the Roo pie while some had
the Roo burger. Some of us had some of the delicious condom
– err, quandong soda. Don’t ask! You had to be there.
After lunch, Glen asked if we could arrange the vehicles out-
side the front of the cafe for a photo opportunity, which we
were happy to do. He seemed rather taken with Esme Sprite
and had his photo taken sitting in her.
Photo opportunity over, we then headed off in various direc-
tions – some to the beach, some shopping and some return-
ing home.
As I was driving home I ended up in a small convoy with John
and Helen in the Torana, myself in the Corvette and Eugene
and Liz in the GT Falcon. I thought “how good is this, cruising
down the highway together in these old classics”.

2 Day Event—25th & 26th August 2018
Kyogle Cinemas began in 1999 when Stuart and Margaret Everett decided to open a movie theatre in Kyogle, NSW.
Stuart had a long standing interest as a collector of vintage cinema projection equipment. He put on vin-tage cinema shows in one of the three theatres orig-inally set up in the building while screening current releases in the two main theatres. During this time the name of the Cinema changed to Richmond Val-ley Cinemas. The Cinema closed for a short time when Stuart and Margaret retired.
In February 2012 the business reopened as a not for profit under the name of Kyogle Community Cin-ema. The various affairs of the cinema were han-dled by the "Growing Kyogle" group, the staff, many volunteers and members of the community. It was
during this period that the Cinema evolved from an-alogue to digital projection.
Then on the 13th October 2016 the movie theatre was reopened after a two week closure for major seating refurbishment announcing the beginning of another chapter in its history.
The Everett family resumed operation of the theatre and the name returned to its original name of Kyogle Cinemas.
The Cinema currently utilises two screens and shows the latest movie releases
