Welcome to our Variety Show 2012. Arts are fundamental to our humanity. They

ennoble and inspire us – fostering creativity, goodness and beauty. They help

us express our values, build bridges between cultures and bring us together

regardless of nationality, the colour of skin, gender or age. Arts are the universal

language, a message can be sent through a drawing, a dancing posture or a

melody. Good painting, dancing or music touches people’s hearts.

We hope through training given in the Arts, we enhance the students’ sense of

personal accomplishment as well as their interpersonal relationships. Performing

arts can enhance the self-confidence and charisma of our students. Through

expression and performance in the Arts, they gain a great sense of satisfaction.

They cherish each opportunity to share music, to share the rhythm, to share their

soul, and to share their love.

Today’s variety show is the opportunity for the students of this school to bring the

Arts to life on stage for all of us to enjoy. Sit back, relax and enjoy the show!

Wind Orchestra

Quiet MomentsBrian West

Dynamic contrast is a powerful tool. Quiet Moments requires the Wind Orchestra to play at many dynamic levels, yet maintain balance, tone and tuning within a modal setting. The intended mood is calmness and control. The piece has several swells and surges along the way, but the ever-present ostinato accompaniment always restores the peaceful setting.

Arranger John Moss has done a marvelous job in bringing the highlights of the blockbuster film, Titanic, to the concert stage for a concert band with his practical, well-paced collage. His medley includes the sensitive film opening, Never An Absolution, the energetic Southampton, and closes with the mega-hit love theme, My Heart Will Go On.

萬年紅馮子存 編曲

由著名笛子大師馮子存根據二人台曲牌《萬年歡》改編而成，曲調明快流暢，讚美社會欣欣

向榮、萬紫千紅的新氣象。本曲分兩段：第一段旋律優美、節奏明快，第二段則是第一段的

變奏，情緒更為歡快，喜氣洋洋遍佈四處。

歡欣舞曲吳朝勝 編

樂曲以鑼鼓和樂器齊奏開首，鮮明的節奏表達出歡欣鼓舞的氣氛。首段由二胡和笛子奏出旋

律，在搖鼓及響鈴的配合下更顯熱鬧非凡。

中段的小鼓小鈸獨奏節奏有徐有疾，保持樂曲輕快的情調，把樂曲帶回主旋律，把氣氛推上

高峰至完結。

恭祝您恭祝您為中國迎新春的喜慶曲目，描述春回大地生機處處的情境。適逢本校

十五周年校慶，選取此曲演奏，取其喜慶和諧之意。
