Basic vacuum-related terms
Vacuum refers to a pressure that is lower than the pressure of the ambient air. The term "percent vacuum" is frequently used in the technical field, whereby "0% vacuum“ is the normal atmospheric pressure of 101.3 kPa and "100% vacuum“ refers to a totally airless environment.
A vacuum exists in a system, when its pressure is lower than the atmospheric pressure. Overpressure exists when the pressure is higher than the atmospheric pressure. In our catalogue, we generally use "% vacuum“, as is usual in industry.
The official physical unit is the Pascal (Pa) (known from the weather forecast). Furthermore, the units mil-libar (mbar) or torr (torr) are also used.
The following applies: 1kPa = 10 hPa = 10 mbar = 7.5 torr.
Because of these many possibilities of stating pressure, it is important to pay attention to exactly what is meant. The following example puts the individual units in relation to one another.
Example: 60% vacuum corresponds to about: -60 kPa; 40 kPa; -600 mbar; 400 mbar; 300 torr.
Suction capacity
In order to generate a vacuum in a container, part of the air has to be extracted using a vacuum pump. Half of the amount of air must be extracted to reach a vacuum level of 50%. The amount of air extracted by the vacuum pump per time unit is referred to as the suction capacity, suction speed or extracted air quantity, depending on the sector. For our vacuum ejectors, we state the suction capacity in standard litres per minute (Nl/min).1000 Nl/min means for example, that the vacuum pump would extract 1000 litres of air or gas per minute from the system to be evacuated. The suction capacity is reduced as the evacuation time goes on and the vacuum increases, because the air becomes "thinner“.
The suction capacity of vacuum ejectors may not be mistaken for or compared with the suction speed of electromechanical vacuum pumps. The suction speed of electromechanical pumps generally does not enable a direct statement to be made as regards how much air is extracted from a vacuum system. This is rather a (constant) theoretical value, which results from the cylinder volume and the speed.
Evacuation time
This means the period of time in which the vacuum system can be evacuated to a certain vacuum level. This is referred to as the evacuation time of the pump and is normally stated in seconds per litre (s/l). If this value is multiplied by the volume of the system, the result is the evacuation time for the desired vacuum level.
Multi-stage vacuum pumps (ejectors)
The general advantages of compressed air operated vacuum pumps (Venturi) such as e.g. small size, low weight, easy assembly and low-wear and maintenance-free operation, are generally known. However, a single-stage Venturi, depending on the nozzle shape, can either reach a high final vacuum with a low suc-tion capacity or a high suction capacity with a low vacuum level.
The technical limitations of single-stage ejectors were eventually overcome by multi-stage systems. TIVAtec multi-stage ejectors have additional nozzle stages, which are arranged behind one another. This enables a maximum volume flow to be achieved with a minimum power consumption and a high final vacuum. The air taken in mixes with the compressed air and serves as a "free propulsion jet“ for the follow-ing stage. The rear nozzle stages may no longer reach the high vacuum level of the first stage, but they do achieve a far higher suction capacity due to the enlarged nozzle cross-sections. And all this "for free". In order to still achieve a high final vacuum (>90%) with the extremely high suction capacity, the individual nozzle stages are separated from the joint vacuum chamber by means of non-return valves. This means that, when the compressed air is switched on, all nozzle chambers are first connected to the joint vacuum chamber. As a result of the nozzle geometry, the last nozzle stage reaches a vacuum level of approx. 30%, for example. The previous nozzle stages respectively reach a higher vacuum level due to reduced cross-sections. As soon as the vacuum level in the joint vacuum chamber is higher than the maximum level to be reached in den respective individual nozzle stages, the respective non-return valve is closed due to the different pressure conditions. Our multi-stage vacuum pumps work extremely quietly due to the use of special flow silencers.

TIVAtec - Vacuum pumpsAdvantages – Series
Advantages of our multi-stage TIVAtec vacuum pumps
High efficiency due to multi-stage principle.
Low power consumption due to optimum nozzle geometry. Power consumption only when vacuum is required (cycle timing on power feed).
Abrupt build-up and release of the vacuum due to the nozzle geometry and the cycle timing of the power supply (compressed air).
High operational reliability no rotating parts subject to wear.
Minimum maintenance requirement only clean compressed air and, if applicable, a vacuum filter are necessary.
Compact format, low weight this enables the vacuum pump to be installed closer to the point of suction and therefore to realise faster reaction times.
Easy installation only a compressed air connection and the suction line need to be installed. The unit can be installed in any position.
Extremely quiet due to special construction and the use of flow silencers.
No heat generation due to expansion of the compressed air, a cooling effect is achieved as opposed to the generation of heat as in mechanical pumps.
No vibrations the extracted air is free from vibrations.
MINI series
The MINI series consists of small, light, multi-stage vacuum pumps, which are used for robot handling and automation tasks. These vacuum pumps are compact in size, yet still have an astonishing suction capacity and a low air consumption compared with conventional, single-stage ejectors.
We offer two characteristics here respectively as standard:Characteristic L = high suction capacity, medium vacuum level and normal operating pressure 5-6 bar.Characteristic M...L = medium suction capacity, higher vacuum level, low operating pressure 3-4 bar.
Other characteristics, for example for even higher vacuum, are available upon request.
MIDI series
The vacuum pumps from the MIDI series are offered as three-stage vacuum pump in various sizes and with different features. Despite their small size and low weight, they are characterised by their enormous capacity and are suitable for numerous application fields as an independent vacuum source or as a basic unit of a system of average capacity requirements. Most vacuum tasks can be solved without any problems using this series, whereby the performance/cost ratio here is extremely favourable for many applications.
Here again, we offer two characteristics respectively as standard:Characteristic: M = medium suction capacity, higher vacuum level, normal operating pressure 5-6 bar.Characteristic: M...L = medium suction capacity, higher vacuum level, low operating pressure 3-4 bar.
MAXI series
The use of the MAXI series mainly concentrates on large suction capacities or the compensation of large leaks. These vacuum pumps are 4-stage systems, which provide an even better energy efficiency, par-ticularly with free suction intake and low vacuum level. The MAXI series from UT-VP-MAX-M401 normally comes with compressed air and vacuum display and with integrated valve and manual switch. A sound absorber is integrated in the vacuum pump. Exhaust air adapters for ducted exhaust air can be optionally supplied.
Characteristic: M= medium suction capacity, higher vacuum level, normal operating pressure 5-6 bar.

Characteristics
L-characteristic
With the L-characteristic, the focus is on a high suction capacity with a relatively low vacuum level (max. approx. 70%). They are particularly suitable for handling porous material, such as cardboard, for example, as well as for large-volume vacuum generation as required for mixers or in systems with fast cycles, for instance, where leaks need to be compensated in order to maintain the desired vacuum level.
M-characteristic
The M-characteristic is the „classic one“ amongst the nozzle systems, which is well suitable for most ap-plications. You should choose the M-characteristic if you not only need a good suction capacity, but also a medium to high vacuum level (max. approx. 90%). The M-characteristic is used for most industrial vacuum applications.
M…L-characteristic
The M-characteristic is also optionally available as an M…L model. In this variant, the nozzle geometry is specially designed for low (approx. 3-4 bar) or fluctuating operating pressures. This means that the M…L model already reaches its maximum vacuum level (max. approx. 90%) at an operating pressure of 3-4 bar.
OptionsAll pumps are optionally available with an integrated non-return valve and FKM seals.
Example:UT-VP-MIN-M21L-R
All pumps of the MIDI series are also available with an energy saving system.

TIVAtec - Vacuum pumpsrecommended hose diameter
* Recommended TIVAtec vacuum pump for most applications. Hose lengths up to 2.5 metres.
In order to ensure the optimum capacity of the TIVAtec vacuum pumps, the minimum hose diameters must be strictly adhered to.
You can test the correct dimensioning of the hose diameter as follows:
1. Compressed air line: Connect the compressed air line and close the vacuum connection with the compressed air switched on. The vacuum level must now reach maximum value. If this is not the case, check the operating pressure directly in front of the vacuum pump with the compressed air switched on. The nominal pressure (e.g. 6 bar) may not drop when the vacuum pump is switched on.
2. Suction line: Connect the vacuum line and leave the end of the line open. The vacuum level should not differ by more than 5 to 10% with the vacuum pump switched on. For example, if the vacuum level is 40%, the first nozzle is not working and the evacuation time is extended. In this case, choose a larger suction line cross-section.

Vacuum pumps type UT-VP-MID-M...
The vacuum pumps of the MIDI series are available as three-stage vacuum pumps in various sizes and with different features.
Optionally available with non-return valve and FKM seals or with energy saving system.
Scope of delivery:Delivery incl. sound absorber, compressed air fitting and vacuum display.

Vacuum pumps type UT-VP-MAX-M...
Application for vacuum pumps from the MAXI series
The use of the MAXI series mainly concentrates on large suction capacities or the compensation of large leaks. These vacuum pumps are 3- to 4-stage systems, which provide an even better energy efficiency, especially with free suction intake and low vacuum level.
The MAXI series (from UT-VP-MAX-M301) comes with compressed air and vacuum display and with integrated valve and manual switch. A sound absorber is integrated in the vacuum pump. The MAXI series is optionally available with an exhaust air adapter for ducted exhaust air.
Characteristic: M = medium suction capacity, higher vacuum level, normal operating pressure 5-6 bar.
Optionally available with non-return valve and FKM seals.

Vacuum ejectors type UT-VP-SEJ-...
TIVAtec vacuum plug-in ejectors are small, compact vacuum generators. Due to their design, the ejectors can be used directly in the application area between the compressed air line and the suction cup. As they do not require any additional attachment, this saves complex installations. The suction capacity of this series enables small, easy vacuum tasks, such as Pick and Place Handling, for example.

Vacuum pumps type UT-VP-RVA-M101-...
Our 3-stage TIVAtec vacuum pumps from the UT-VP-RVA series convince not only by their rounded design, but also by their impressive performance data. The suction capacity measures up to 4.5 times the applied compressed air, enabling these pumps to generate a vacuum of up to 90%. Due to the use of high-quality and resistant materials (stainless steel 1.4301 and FKM), the vacuum pumps are particularly suitable for use in application with aggressive media in critical environments.
A model with clamp rings (see photo bottom left) is available upon request. These vacuum pumps are CIP-compatible, therefore the vacuum generators do not need to be removed. The cleaning agent is simply supplied on the vacuum side, and exits the system on the exhaust airside.

Annular gap ejectors type UT-VP-RISPA-...
UT-VP-RISPA are suitable for all propellant and suction gases. The propellant gas is released diagonally inwards in flow direction into a mixing tube through an exterior annular gap. During this process, the media to be taken in is carried along from the upstream side of the mixing tube.
These annular gap ejectors are available with passages of 10 to 40 mm in diameter. The maximum vacuum is -10 to -70 kPa. Fields of application are e.g. injecting bulk materials and gases, mixing gases, thread handling and for wire and tube drying, and generally for producing blow air and its amplification or multiplication by the air taken in (e.g. for blowing, cooling or for process technology). The UT-VP-RISPA jet pumps are operated by propellant gases at a pressure of 0-6 bar. The suction capac-ity, mixing ratio and maximum vacuum are adjusted in accordance with the pressure intensity. In addition, the UT-VP-RISPA jet pumps are freely adjustable via a thread. Therefore, not only the vacuum, but also the air consumption and mixing ratio can be regulated within a wide range. Our pumps of type UT-VP-RISPA are available in various materials, such as e.g. aluminium, stainless steel, high-temperature resistant steel.

Electric vacuum pumps
Rotary slide vacuum pumps as dry runners
This type of vacuum pump is low in maintenance and is operated without lubricants. Therefore, contamina-tion of the pumped media is not possible. Furthermore, no expenditure is incurred for the treatment and disposal of a lubricant. The dry runners are of compact design and low weight. A vacuum of 88% can be achieved when evacuating closed containers. An integrated ventilator ensures the cooling of the pump. Therefore, sufficient ventilation for the dry runner vacuum pumps must be ensured.
Oil-lubricated rotary slide pumps
Due to its oil lubrication, this type of vacuum pump is extremely long-lasting and reliable in continuous operation. They are characterised by high suction capacities and a high final vacuum. In the case of dense materials, a vacuum of up to 99% can be reached. These pumps are particularly suitable for evacuating closed containers.
Vacuum blowers
These blowers are specially used for application on porous materials such a cardboard and chipboard pan-els. These compressors are characterised by a high suction capacity; the vacuum level, however, is very low. Large quantities of non-explosive gas-air mixtures can be pumped, or high leakages can be compen-sated.

These oil-free rotary slide vacuum pumps are produced in monoblock design. Here, the rotor is directly attached to the motor shaft. Because of its design, this pump has a low weight and compact dimensions. A light metal alloy was used as the pump material, enabling this rotary slide model to be installed in confined spaces. However, sufficient ventilation should be provided. An integrated ventilator ensures the cooling of the pump.

Application for long suction cups with sensing valves type UT-SN-...Tast
Flat suction cups are predestined for use on level surfaces, when high holding forces are required. As they are slightly deformed due to supporting ribs, they offer better positioning accuracy than universal suction cups. These suction cups are also ideally suitable for horizontal application cases.
Application for universal suction cups type UT-SN-U...
Universal suction cups are particularly suitable for use on level and slightly arched surfaces. Irregularities are more easily compensated with these products than with flat suction cups.
Application for bellow suction cups type UT-SN-B...
Bellow suction cups offer a lifting function due to their construction. They can be used on level and slightly arched surfaces. They also offer the possibility of compensating positional tolerances of the workpieces to be picked up.
Application for bellow suction cups, long, type UT-SN-BL...
These long bellow suction cups offer an even better lifting function than the bellow suction cups. However, the suction cups are less stable due to the many bellows, They are suitable for applications with a vacuum of up to 60%.
Application for profile suction cups, long, type UT-SN-P...
These suction cups are particularly suitable for rough surfaces such as stone, concrete slabs etc. The cel-lular rubber profile seal offers good sealing properties on many surfaces.
Application for oval profile suction cups, long, type UT-SN-OP...
These suction cups are particularly suitable for rough surfaces such as stone, concrete slabs etc. The cellular rubber profile seal offers good sealing properties on many surfaces. Stability is increased when working with thin objects due to their oval shape.
Application for long suction cups with sensing valves type UT-SN-...Tast
In case of applications with a central vacuum system and several suction cups, it may be advisable to equip the suction cups with a sensing valve, such that the vacuum system does not take in any external air if a suction cup is not properly in contact with the material to be handled. Due to the integrated sensor, the valve is only opened when the suction cup has proper contact with the workpiece.

Flat suction cups type UT-SN-F... with holder
Flat suction cups are predestined for use on level surfaces, when high holding forces are required. As they are slightly deformed due to supporting ribs, they offer better positioning accuracy than universal suction cups. These suction cups are also ideally suitable for horizontal application cases.

Electric type V-VS560-0,85-1-1/4-W Changerincluding 4-pin connector plug DIN 43650 SHAPE A
This vacuum switch is mainly used in the field of rough vacuum. It transforms a pneumatic signal into electric signals, whereby the switching point is infinitely adjustable by means of an adjusting button. The V-VS560 is also equipped with an integrated microswitch and can therefore be used as a normally closed, normally open or changer contact, depending on connection. The device is free from paint wetting disrup-tive substances (labs-free). Sockets with and without LED are optionally available as accessories.
