It shares a lot of its under-garments with the Range Rov-er Evoque, but its longer, witha remarkably clever new rearsuspension that allows you tofit seven into an SUV measur-ing less than 4.6 metres long.
If it didnt helpfully say Dis-covery on the bonnet, youdhave a hard time telling itapart from the Evoque fromthe front. Move to the side andyou see the higher roof line,the bigger windows and thecompletely different rear end.
In fact, the more you look atit the more sweetly it seems tobalance the rugged Discoverylooks with the modern, street-savvy boldness of the babyRange Rover.

pect in the back, either, thanksto new rear suspension tech-nology that leaves much morespace in the cabin. The mid-dle row slides forward to cre-ate more legroom at the back,while leavingenough spaceforadults in the front five seats.

Driving it over Icelandicsnow and ice perhaps isntthe best representation of UKdriving, but by Jove the Dis-covery Sport can handle it. De-spite its advancing years theslightly agricultural 2.2-litrediesel engine still does a goodjob when paired with the nine-speed automatic gearbox.
Comfortable seats are impor-tant in this part of the marketand the Sport ticks that box.The four-wheel drive systemworks impeccably. At onepoint the car had to pull itselfout of a snow drift and did.
If you want a lifestyle-biasedcompact family SUV thatcan tow, can seat seven andcan handle even the toughestoff-roading that any normalperson is likely to throw at it,this really is in a class of one.Its more expensive than anEvoque, mind you, and somewill find that badge one that ishard to resist.

A supercar for all the family? Sort ofA lot has changed on the 650Scompared to the outgoing12C. For starters it looks a lotlike the mighty P1 hypercarthanks to some significant ex-terior changes. The engine hasbeen tweaked to release evenmore horsepower as well asimproved response, while thealready-impressive suspen-sion has been played with too.
What little thats left un-touched is no less impressive:the all-carbonfibre struc-ture means light weight andstrength, the swan-wing doorsare eye-catching to say theleast and the cabin is refresh-ingly understated and easy tounderstand.
No-one buys a supercar andexpectsto cartarounda familyand all their luggage, but the650S Spider is actually betterat this than you might think.Firstly the doors open up andout which makes tight spaceseasier to deal with, and onceinside the cabin is unclutteredand easy to use. Being mid-
engined the boot is at the frontand offers a usefully-shaped144 litres, but if you have theroof up you can push a but-ton and use the space where itwould fold, giving another 50litres.
The twin-turbocharged V8dishes out a thumping 641bhpand 500lb.ft of torque, andwith driven taken to the rearwheel through a super-slickdualclutchgearboxthe resultsare jaw-slackening; 0-62mphtakes 3.0 seconds dead and itwill hit100mphfromrestin 5.8seconds however you meas-ure it, the 650S will redefineyour perception of fast.
Yes the 650S Spider costs alot of money; 215,250 beforeyou get started on the optionslist, but to say you get a lot foryour money would be a seri-ous understatement. Thereare options and you can go totown via the McLaren SpecialOperations division, but acompletely standard exampleis far from barren.
