Let’s think….A newspaper article written about the revolutionary
war would be????
Primary source!! It was a reporters
reaction to a recent event.
But….A newspaper article written about the tragedy of
bunker hill NOW would be….
SECONDARY SOURCE! It was a
reporter’s reflection of a past event,
separated by time.
How can I tell if it’s a valid source?
Look for BIAS Bias: to show prejudice for or against something.
Example: Would you really believe a letter in favor of smoking from the PRESIDENT of a tobacco company? Umm..NO. He is BIASED.
How can I tell if it’s a valid source?
Look for CONTRADICTION Contradiction: To completely change stories midstream.
Example: Would you really believe an interview of a suspect in a crime if he kept changing his story? Umm…NO… He is CONTRADICTING himself.
