NOTE: The day I completed this work, I heard the news that composer Paul Hindemith had died. I decided to dedicate it to his memory. It was premiered by violinist John Korman and pianist Michael Zearott in the Spring of 1964 at the University of California in Los Angeles, where I was a student.
