The goal of ACADEMY OF WORSHIP ARTS is to raise-up the next
generation of people who truly know how to worship God in Spirit
and Truth. We seek to train up whole-hearted, fully-integrated
worshipers who express praise, worship and honor to God through
their love of music and the arts, while learning how to praise,
worship and honor God in every area of life. We desire to help
young people grow in artistic expression through music and the arts
for the glory of God and the good of man.
CINDY WAGNER: PIANO / VOCAL INSTRUCTOR Cindy started taking
piano lessons at age five and instantly loved it. By the time she
was 14 she was giving beginner piano lessons as her job. She
started vocal lessons when she was 11 and was singing
professionally by the age of 13 in a Christian band. This band
continued ministering musically throughout Jr. High, Sr. High and
college. Cindy majored in Voice and Piano in college. She continued
teaching private lessons as she home-
schooled her three children. She has sung background vocals for
such artists as Michael W. Smith, Natalie Grant, Nicole C. Mullin,
Twila Paris and others on studio projects and concert performances.
For ten years Cindy developed a strong worship team with New Song
Youth, helping to raise up Youth Worship Leaders who were
passionately pursuing Jesus. Cindy is now the Worship Arts
Coordinator at New Song Nashville and teaches and administrates the
Academy of Worship Arts.
GWEN ELLIOTT: DANCE INSTRUCTOR Gwen Elliott is thrilled to be a
part of the team at New Song Academy of Worship Arts. Gwen has
spent the last 12 years leading dance ministry at New Song
Christian Fellowship. From 2001 – 2006, she owned and operated her
own dance studio, which she closed when it was time for her to have
children. Gwen has a passion to see technical excellence married
with fully devoted, whole-hearted worship of Jesus Christ. Focused
on worship as a lifestyle, modesty and divinely
inspired creativity, Gwen brings a strong teaching element to
dance. “My lifeʼs mission in dance is to see lives transformed by
the power of the Gospel and then to see that transformation
expressed in dance. Whether a worship element or a piece that tells
a story, dance is a vehicle that should be used to glorify Him and
to tell His story! I love to see multiple creative elements work
together to make an even greater impact.” Gwen lives in Franklin,
Tennessee and attends New Song Cool Springs with her husband,
Brian, and three kids, Taylor, Micah and Garrett.
JOEL EVRIST: ACOUSTIC GUITAR/BASS/DRUM INSTRUCTOR Joel began
pursuing music at age eight with piano lessons. By age ten, he
learned form and technique with his instructor. Getting his first
drum kit at age 11, he continued lessons for years. At age 16, he
started stealing his sister's acoustic guitar to learn everything
he could. At 18 years old, he took up bass while growing in
competence on the other three instruments. Helping students to be a
multi-instrumental, competent, creative, and effusive musician that
seeks to exalt Jesus Christ through
musical excellence is Joelʼs passion. He believes deep love and
loyalty to Christ and people leads to the best kinds of worship
leaders, musicians, and songwriters. Joelʼs desire? “Let's pray for
wisdom and grace, work hard, laugh a lot, practice, and allow the
Holy Spirit to shape us into the musicians He created us to
be.”
PATRICK MALEY: DRUM/PERCUSSION INSTRUCTOR Patrick Maley has been
a professional drummer and percussionist for the better part of 20
years. He is co-founder of the international music super group
SIRIS and has been a session and live drummer for countless other
artists such as Katy Perry, The Beach Boys, Carrie Underwood, Chris
Cornell, and many more. Patrick has been teaching drums and
percussion privately for the past 15 years. He is a Musicianʼs
Institute graduate with a degree in Commercial Percussion
Performance and is a member of the Percussive Arts Society (PAS)
as well as The National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences
(NARAS). Patrick has a genuine passion for helping cultivate the
love of music in those he teaches.
