PROBLEM STATEMENT Develop some
kind of security system to sound an alarm when a burglar enters the house
Must be inexpensive

PROPOSED SOLUTION Hardware
Needed: Door Switches Window
Switches Lights Alarm PLC

PROPOSED SOLUTION Build a scale model of a house to
wire up the security system as if it were going into a real house

PROPOSED SOLUTION Programming of the PLC
Took a class in PLC programming approximately 2 years ago
Chose the Allen Bradley SLC500 because of familiarity with the PLC
Refresh myself on programming of the PLC
Write the PLC program Troubleshoot PLC program

PROPOSED SOLUTION Wire everything up and test it out

RESULTS Got everything wired up Tested all circuits before
connecting to PLC Security system worked once tied
into PLC Whenever a door or window is
opened, the alarm is triggered until the homeowner resets it

CONCLUSIONS A PLC is a very realistic means of
setting up an internal alarm for your home Can be easily programmed Versatile
Project was a learning experience Learned how to wire up a PLC Learn about alarm techniques and
how to setup an alarm

FUTURE WORK This could possibly find its way into
my house given enough time and money
This could be a marketable product for people wanting a reliable security system
