A Seed from the Ground Song by Connie Kaldor (A Duck in New York City)

If you’ve got the sun and if you’ve got the rain And you plant a little seed in the old back lane And you wish and you pray and you keep the weeds down You might find, ooh, you might find

A root growing out from the seed in the ground

A shoot growing out from the rootfrom the seed in the ground

In order to play this game, I need:

BANANA SPLIT:

Conventional or Fair Trade Bananas?

Page 17: Playing with Food… for a more just and healthier planet

1. A small farmer in Honduras grows a banana on a plantation. 2. When his banana is almost ready, he sells it to the owner of the plantation

for 1 cent.3. The owner of the plantation calls a local transporter to pick up the banana. 4. The local transporter delivers the banana to an airplane. 5. The airplane transports the banana to an airport in North America.6. When the price of bananas are low on the stock market, a negotiator buys

the banana. 7. The negotiator resells the banana to an importer. 8. The importer resells the banana to a large food distribution network and

moves the banana from one storage location to the next.9. A number of days or weeks after being harvested, the banana finally arrives

in your supermarket.

10. You’re hungry and you buy the banana for 50 cents.

3. The cooperative sells the banana to an importer.

4. The importer sends the banana to North America (by boat or airplane).

5. A few days after being harvested, the banana is trucked in and finally arrives in your supermarket.
