Term CardAutumn 2008

It’s all about Jesus: not just a hippy-looking peasant with a beard from two thousand years ago, but God himself who has always existed and will rule the universe forever. The astounding news is that you can know him personally, forever, and that knowing him will make sense of your life and give you joy like no other god, person, thing or experience can.

How you respond to Jesus is the most important decision you will ever make in your life. He’s worth exploring.

Platt runs an informal course on Monday nights called Christianity Explored: a relaxed place to find out more about God, faith, Jesus, the Bible and more. You won’t be asked to pray, sing or read aloud, and you can ask any questions you like. Or, if you prefer, you can just come along and listen.

This leaflet aims to introduce you to what’s on at Platt for students. If you’re new,

we hope you feel especially welcome here. Please do get stuck in, stick around for lunch or coffee

after the services on Sunday, get to know people and introduce yourself to one of the student team

(collection of faces on the back of this leaflet). We’d love it if you could take the time to fill out the

‘Getting To Know You’ slip too.

Welcome!

SBS (Student Bible Study) is the best way to belong, get to know people, and get into the Bible. We encourage you to make it a top priority.

Each week there is a time to chat and catch up over drinks and cake, listen to a short talk, and spend an hour in small groups usually in people’s homes studying the Bible and praying together. The groups are mostly led by non-students who have been around a bit longer. This term we’ll be looking at the life and teachings of Jesus, from Matthew’s Gospel.

Want to know more? Come along to church any Thursday at 7pm (in term-time), tick the relevant box on the tear-off, or search for ‘SBS RULES’ on Facebook.

Getting To Know YouSundaysEach week, there are services at 9:45, 11:30 and 6:30. Pick up the general term card (probably white with blue text) to find out which parts of the Bible we’ll be hearing explained each week.

You can also fill your stomach with good food after the 11:30am service (during term-time from 21st September onwards) at our two-course student lunches in the church hall. A bargain at only £2!

If you want to pray for student work in Manchester, join the team from 5:45pm each week in the church Garden Room. You are very welcome to join.

FootballPlatt has a ladies’ football team that meets in Platt Fields Park (behind church) on Mondays from 6pm. Email [email protected] or check out the ‘Platt Ladies Football’ group on Facebook for more info. Alternatively, if you’re a bloke, email [email protected] for info about lads’ football.

And more...Also coming up this term are the Grill A Christian (with free meal) and Christmas Ceilidh events, on November 2nd at 8pm and December 6th at 7:30pm respectively, both in the church hall.

We hope you will feel able and want to invite both Christian and non-Christian friends along to Sunday activities, football and anything else at Platt. It may help you to know that 5th October at 6:30pm and 12th October at 11:30am are services especially aimed at those who don’t yet know Jesus.

What’s on...
