Preventive Maintenance and Calibration Program:

The IDM Preventive Maintenance and Calibration (PM&C) program has been designed tomake the maintenance and calibration of your valuable testing equipment more costeffective by preventing breakdowns and downtime by regular calibration, service andreplacement of defective parts. IDM's PM&C system takes care of all service and repairneeds you may have. It is an on-site maintenance and calibration service available on aregular basis, suitable to your needs and your testing equipment.

The PM&C program is the best way to ensure your testing equipment is maintained inoptimum working condition. PM&C team members are supplied with the necessary meansto sustain your testing equipment's peak performance throughout its lifetime, benefiting bothyou and your equipment. Testing equipment in your facility (or at IDM) will be calibratedusing industry-wide, internationally recognised standards or by your specific requirements.Calibrated instruments are labelled accordingly and documented with an IDM full calibrationreport or certificate of conformance (whichever is applicable). All calibrations are maintainedin IDM's calibration database and you will be notified when your next service/calibration isdue. IDM's Calibration work is comprehensive- adjusting your equipment to give you theright results, whenever possible.

Through this system of scheduled PM&C, IDM can help you improve productivity by reducingdown time, minimising unscheduled maintenance and the need for service calls. Weschedule in agreed dates and periods for the PM&C program, and give you prior notificationso you have time to prepare yourself. This service is available in Australia only at this pointof time.

The Digital Air Permeability Tester determines the air leakage of plasticfilms. Arbour Cutting Press – 3 TonneModel: C0022-3

Coefficient of Friction TesterModel: C0008

IDM’s extremely popular COF Tester is used to determine the static and kinetic friction of plasticfilm, sheeting, paper and other sheeted material. This unit can measure Static COF (peak) froma resting position and continue to move testing surfaces in a relative motion to give an accuratekinetic COF (dynamic) result. This COF Tester employs a stationary sled with a moving plane.With the option of a computer software package to record data, the IDM COF Tester has provenitself to be a fast, reliable and accurate method of determining coefficient of friction in variousareas of manufacturing.

Coefficient of Friction TesterModel: C0008-VS (Variable Speed)

The C0008-VS model has all the same features as the C0008 withthe addition of speed from 50 – 300mm/min using a stepper motor for acuate variable speedcontrol. It also has a home setting so that once you have completed a test and unloaded yoursample it will return to the start point “HOME” ready for the next sample. All the motion runcontrols are via a LCD touch screen for stop, start, home and speed changes.This COF tester is the next level in accurate and precise COF measurement for static andkinetic results, as with the C0008 Peel Testing and Heated Platen Testing can also be carriedout on this model.

Coefficient of Friction TesterModel: C0041 (Automated )

Manufactured to determine the static and kinetic friction of plasticfilm, sheeting and paper and other sheeted material using thehorizontal plane principle. The C.O.Friction Tester employs a

moving sled with a stationary table. The table has a clamping system preventing slippage ofthe test piece during a test. The sled is lowered onto the table by means of an elevatorsystem, which places the sled so as both test surfaces meet simultaneously, eliminating anyoperator error, which may influence the results of the test.

Coefficient of Friction TesterModel: C0045 (Incline Plane)

This instrument is used to determine the coefficient of static friction ofmost packaging materials by measuring the angle at which one testsurface begins to slide against another inclined surface as the incline is increased at aconstant and prescribed rate. As the plane rises at a rate of 1.5° ±0.5°/s, the first sign ofmovement from the sled is detected by a micro switch, stopping the plane movement andrecording the relevant angle of the incline. The test is frequently referred to as a slide angle.The coefficient of friction is numerically equivalent to the tangent of that angle.

Coefficient of Friction TesterModel: C0049 (Hot Slip)

The C0049 Coefficient of Friction Tester is designed to determine thefriction properties of plastic films, foils, laminates, papers and boards.The equipment performs tests to most of the recognised international

test standards including IS0 8295 and ASTM 1894-78. The equipment is essential formeasuring the slip properties of packaging materials to ensure smooth running onproduction packaging machines or to measure the effect that a coating or print has onbase material.

Coefficient of Friction TesterModel: C0054 (Manual Incline Plane)

A manual version of Incline Plane COF Tester. This unit is used todetermine the coefficient of static friction of most packaging materials bymeasuring the angle at which one test surface begins to slide againstanother inclined surface as the incline is increased at a constant and prescribed rate. As theplane rises, the first sign of movement from the sled is detected by the operator and arecording of the relevant angle of the incline is noted. The test is frequently referred to as aslide angle. The coefficient of friction is numerically equivalent to the tangent of that angle.

The Coefficient of Linear Thermal Expansion Tester is used for determining thelinear change of a refractory caused by a change in temperature and to ascertainthe reversibility of these characteristics.

Colour AnalyzerModel: RBG-1002

The RGB-1002 is a portable colour analyser equipped with an externalsensor probe having a 45º / 0º colour measuring geometry. The accuratemicroprocessor supplies excellent repeatability using the spectral analysis

method to determine the colour of the sample.

Tool Steel Cutting Dies are used for cutting of plastic film, paper and rubbersamples used for tensile and tear testing (dumbbell, trouser, etc). They aremanufactured to suit various international test standards and custom dies canbe ordered upon request.

Ruler Type Cutting Dies are used for cutting of plastic film, paper and rubber samples usedfor tensile and tear testing (dumbbell, trouser, etc). They are manufactured with a plybacked knife-edge, and can be manufactured to suit various international test standards.

This range of instruments is used to measure the thicknessof paper, plastic, tissue and other sheeted material, these

Din Abraders

Model: D0008Model: D0008-W (Wet)

The Din Abrader is primarily for use in determining the resistance of vulcanized rubber toabrasive forces using a cylindrical type drum. It may however be used to determine theresistance to abrasion of other types of materials such as certain plastics.

Dry Bath Aging BlockModel: D0001

The Dry Bath aging Block is used for determining the long-term effects ofelevated temperature on various materials like rubber, plastics, textile etc.Samples are placed in glass tubes. The 24 holes for insertion of the tubes are38mm by 280mm.

DuPont Impact TesterModel: I0007

The DuPont Impact Tester has been designed to test the endurance of coatedmaterial, when impacted by a falling weight at specified points. The purpose of thetest is to see if test specimens can resist the effect of rapid impact testing. TheDuPont Impact Tester can also be used on paintings with coated materials.

Durometers

IDM supply a range of analogue and digital Durometerswhich are designed to measure the hardness of materialsincluding rubber and plastic. Durometers consist of 3 types:Type A for medium hardness, Type B for high hardness andType E for low hardness. Constant Pressure Load set-ups

include a Durometer and stand, which utilizes a stepper motordriving system for more precise testing.

Edge Compression Guide BlocksModel: E0001Edge Compression CutterModel: E0002

The Edge Compression Cutter has been designed and manufactured to cutaccurate samples from corrugated board for testing purposes. The Guide Blocks aid in thedetermination of the resistance of corrugated fibreboard to a load applied in the plane of theboard in a direction parallel to the flutes, i.e. parallel to the cross direction of the componentsheets.

Elmendorf Tear Testers

Tear Testers quickly and accurately measures the tear resistance of sheetmaterials including paper, textiles, roofing products, film and foils.Various models are available, including Electronic, Mechanical and Heavy-Duty.

Falling Dart Impact TesterModel: F0008 (A Method)

This unit covers the determination of the energy that causes PolyethyleneFilm to fail under specified conditions, with the impact of a free-falling dart.The unit employs a dart, with a 38mm diameter hemispherical head, droppedfrom a height of 660mm. This unit may be used for films whose impactresistance requires masses of approximately 50gms to 2 kg to fracture them.

Falling Dart Impact TesterModel: F0008 (A & B Methods)

Film Free Shrink TesterModel: F0006

The Film Free Shrink Tester consists of a small, circular aluminiumblock, electrically heated and controlled by a temperature controller.Using aluminium foil discs with silicon oil, the test piece is placed into itto accelerate shrinkage at selectable temperatures.

Flexseal®Model: F0022

The Flexseal® is an advanced leak detection system designed for monitoringthe seal performance of flexible and semi rigid packages. It provides theuser with a valuable visual method of determining the integrity of thepackage and seal using a simple and easy process. It allows rapid detectionof failures, and enables early corrective action to be taken.

Flexible Modulus TesterModel: F0019

The Flexible Modules tester is used to determine the flexural properties ofreinforced and unreinforced plastics, including high-modulus composites andelectrical insulating materials in the form of rectangular bars moulded directly orcut from sheets, plates, or moulded shapes.

Gardner Type Impact TesterModel: G0001

The Gardner Type Impact Tester is used to rank materials according to the energyrequired to break flat, rigid plastic specimens, under various specified conditions ofimpact of a striker, impacted by a falling weight.

Gelbo Flex TesterModel: G0002

The Gelbo Flex Tester is used to determine whether certain laminationsof plastic withstand repetitive strain. By attaching sample pieces oflaminated plastic to the two circular clamping disks, via hose clamps, thespecimen is twisted and turned to the specific movements. This process will show a visualresult of pin holding and delamination.

Gelbo Flex TesterModel: G0002-C (Unit with Cooling Chamber)

The Gelbo Flex Tester with Cooling Chamber is used to perform flextesting for plastic film, laminate plastic, within a controlled temperatureenvironment. The chamber can be set to a temperature between -5 to -40° ± 1°C. The Chamber also has a large viewing window to viewsamples during testing.

Glow Wire TesterModel: G0003

This unit simulates the effect of thermal stresses, such as glowing elementsor overloaded resistors, in order to assess the fire hazard by a simulationtechnique. The glow wire is a specified loop of resistance wire which iselectrically heated to a specified temperature. The glow wire is then boughtinto contact with the specimen under test.

Guillotines

IDM supply a range of Guillotines to suit variousapplications. Bench top and free standing units areavailable.

Gloss Meters – Multi Angle

A range of Gloss Meters are available to determine the specularreflection of various materials. Gloss Meters can measure in 20°, 60° or80°, all in the one single unit, with results displayed instantly, includingthe difference, pass/fail and statistics on display.

Hall Effect Thickness GaugeModel: MBT-300

Featuring a large display screen, this instrument is designed tomeasure the thickness of plastic and other non-magnetic materialup to 25.4mm thick (glass, aluminium cans etc.)

Haze Meters – Hand Held

IDM supplies Haze meters, which can measure both gloss and haze inone easy to use instrument. These units are useful for measurement onthe finished product and quality control in the production process.

Hot Tack TesterModel: H0005

An advanced system to monitor the seal performance of flexible and semirigid plastic bags or tubes. The unit determines the capability of a heat-seal join to hang together when it is stressed, at a specified time interval,while still hot from the sealing operation, but before it reaches ambienttemperature. The overall design of a package can contribute or detractfrom the materials ability to provide hot tack during the sealing process.

Ink Rub TestersModel: I0001 (Single Arm)Model: I0002 (Twin Arm)

Ink Rub Testers are designed to determine the quality of adhesion, andscuff resistance of ink to paper surfaces, plastic and aluminium film. Themethod of operation is that a 2 or 4 lb weight with a clean white board isswept across the test piece for a set number of times, and then closelyexamined. Heated weights are also available for these units.

Digital Izod Impact TesterModel: XJU-22S

The XJU-22S adopts the technology of the photoelectric encoder to examinethe angle, measures material absorption, energy and impact intensity of thematerial in the course of breaking. It possesses intact energy, loss detectionand revision functions, high precision and stability and a large testing range.

Laboratory Heated PressesL0002 & L0003 Series

For applications including moulding rubber, plastic and composites, IDM’sLaboratory Presses are designed for pressing or helping to form samplesbetween two heated platens. Two digital temperature controllers enablethe platens to be heated or cooled and even set process times for heatingand cooling. A digital panel meter is used to display the compressionforce (kgf) enabling fast and accurate operation.

Laboratory Heat Sealers are designed to be used fordevelopment work to help determine the sealing properties and characteristics of plastic andlaminated materials. The Heat Sealer is electrically heated and temperature controlled withadjustable sealing pressure, controlled by a timer. ECO models are made to order at a fixedsealing bar size. PRO models can be adjusted to fit multiple sized bars.

Light Transmission TesterModel: L0005

The Light Transmission Tester has been specially designed and manufacturedto evaluate the light transmission properties of various shaped plasticcontainers.

Melt Flow Indexer - ManualModel: M0004

Melt Flow Indexers are dead-weight extrusion plastometers. Consisting of athermostatically controlled melting chamber (the barrel) in which the polymerunder test is heated and from which it is extruded through a standard dieunder standard conditions of load, which is made up of the combinedweights of the extrusion piston and the loose weights.

Melt Flow Indexer - AutomaticModel: XNR-400

The Auto MFI is suitable for determining the MVR and MFR of thermoplastic.Not only can test the high melt temperature such as PC, Fluor plastics andnylon, but also PE, PP, POM,PS,ABS resin which has low melt temperature.This unit features LCD touch screen operation, auto cut-off function and builtin printer which automatically prints test results.

Pail Measuring InstrumentModel: P0009

The Pail Measuring Instrument is manufactured with two recesses, onefor 10 to 20 litre pails on the left-side, and 1 to 10 litre pails on the rightside. The instrument will display the measurement in mm once the

cylinder has stopped moving.

Permeability Cups - Vapometers

Used to determine the water vapor permeability of sheeted materials such asspecialty paper grades, polyethylene, leather, vinyl, foil, laminates etc.Essential in determining if a material is moisture proof or has the ability to protect contentsfrom the transmission of water vapor.

PET Bottle Pressure TesterModel: PEBT-4000

The PEBT-4000 PET Bottle Pressure Tester is an advance testingequipment specialized for testing the PET bottles. It has been designed inconformity to the three international commonly used testing methods: (1)Ramp Fill Mode; (2) Burst Mode; (3) User-Defined Mode.The machine uses touch screen interface with automatic effusion, clampingthe sample and testing. Pressurizing process is controlled by servo valve.

Test data is displayed and test results are recorded. The system is able to connect to PC withprofessional CND-PEBT software displaying pressure and volume expansion curve.

Polarising BoxModel: P0008

The Polarising Box is used to view the stress points created duringmanufacture of clear plastic and glass products. The samples can alsobe extruded film. The Polarising Box has two open sides so long itemscan be passed through.

Precision Balances

Rub Proof TesterModel: I0005

Used to evaluate the ink transfer from printed/coated materials from rubbing.Dead loads are placed on top of the upper disc to achieve a known pressure.The S/S sample holders are manufactured to enable dry or wet rubs and adigital cycle counter stops the test at the pre-set value.

Scott Internal Bond TesterModel: PCA 1270

This instrument is used to produce a high speed Z-directional ruptureof paper and paperboard. It is a dynamic test that measures anddefines strength in terms of energy absorption.

Spencer Impact TesterModel: 60-2006

The Spencer Impact Attachment was developed for use with Thwing-Albert’s Elmendorf Tear Tester. It provides a convenient method fordetermining the impact resistance of plastic films and packaging materialsunder conditions that closely approximate the strain rates that the materialis subject to in end-use applications.

Static Volt MeterModel: SVM2

Designed for the plastic film industry, the Static Meter is ahandheld electrostatic voltmeter that measures essentially allthe parameters associated with static electricity. Its principlefunction-- measuring the voltage of a sample or surface without touching it.

Thickness Gauge Digital Indicator with StandModel: T0013

Providing statistical results, this unit can be used on many different materialswhere an accurate measurement of thickness is required. Different options canbe fitted to suit custom requirements including mm/inch gauge readout andspecial foot sizes.

Thickness Gauges - UltrasonicT2100 Series

Ultrasonic Thickness Gauges use ultrasonic pulse reflection. The pulse isreflected back to the probe when the ultrasonic pulse sent by the probereaches the material interface through the tested object. This Gaugeseries are equipped with microcomputers that analyse, handle and display

the current data. They feature highly optimized measuring circuits and offer high measurementaccuracy.

Water Vapour Transmission TesterModel: PVA/4

Used for the preparation of test pieces for the accurate measurement of thewater vapour transmission rate flexible packaging materials, includingparchment, wax paper, polyethylene, vinyl, cellophane, foil, laminates, andother materials.

Universal Testing Machines
