PLANS FOR GREAT RELIGIOUS WORK Permanent Home For Metoka and Galeda Glasses. MEANING OF THE MOVEMENT, Executive Committee of New Forward Movement Among Baptiste Holds Year End Meeting In Nashville—Or- ganized Sunday School Classes Chief Topic—Energy of Henry Allen Boyd. Nashville, Tenn.—This historic city and educational center is to come into the limelight even more brilliantly than ever before as a religious denomina tlonal center, where all races and creeds may truly call it “Jerusalem,” if the plan adopted by the executive com mittee of the National Metoka and Gu- leda organized class movement, which j held Its meeting at the National Baptist publishing house, Tuesday, Dec. 24. | are carried out. The entire matter, ns agreed upon by J the executive committee, is practicable and feasible, and for that reason the city as a whole will gain much in the culmination of the plans now under way. It is calculated that the pro posed new movement will bring a lar ger Influence upon the Sunday school forces and benefit Nashville from the organized Sunday school class point of view as no other denominational move ment of recent years has done. According to the idea of thecommlttee, the central organization, or the head quarters of the Metoka and Galeda classes of the United States, is to be made at Nhshville. Offices are to be opened and paraphernalia will be made and kept on hand and periodicals for the classes sent out; in fact, a bee hive of workers will be the ultimate aim of the central organization. Among the first steps taken were an agreement for co-operation between the executive committee and the local work ers, the drafting of plans for this cen tral organization, and the opening of a regular correspondence with every organized class throughout the United States. The National Baptist Union Review has pledged its support in giving space to whatever the central organization may prepare for publication, thus act- ing as a lever for this movement. Edi tor Crenshaw, who was present and spoke at length, declared that the m i i terial and opportunity for fucther#fcg| such plans ns had been outlined by | the committee, was to be found within | reach of Nashville, almost under the I shadow of the publishing board. The organized clubs movement was started at the Sunday school congress at Meridian. Miss., two years ago nd is perhaps the first distinctively N* gro organization of classes in any of lie denominations of the race. The selec- tion of the unique name. “Metoka.” which is Greek, anglicized, meaning “fellowship.” is designated for the men’s classes. The word “Galeda is Hebrew, which translated means ‘ the heap of witnesses” and is the name of the class for young ladies. The secretary of the Sunday school congress, Henry A. Boyd, stated that all schools were eligible to representa- tion by classes and that he expected classes to be organized In every one of the 20,000 schools which are now mem- bers of the Sunday school congress. The superintendent of the teacher training course, l>r. IMus. stated that in three or four years this organization would have a membership of 100.000 throughout the United States. It was stated that after the holiday season plans would be completed and made public for the publication of a Metoka and Galeda magazine In the interest of the organized classes, sup- porting them in every way to bring the classes up to the standard that has been set for them. This magazine, with the support of 1.000 classes al- ready organized, will have the largest circulation at birth of any religious Journal that has been published in Nashville. It Is stated on good authority that these classes will rally as a unit to the support of this magazine. At present the paraphernalia for the classes con- sists of charters, pennants, buttons, pins, badges, constitutions and bylaws, watch fobs, invitation cards and charts. At the central organization, which will maintain elaborate headquarters, will lie the offices of the superintend- ent of tlie teacher training course, the Sunday school colporteurs, missionaries and, in fact, the entire national execu- tive committee, with national officers, will lie logically headquartered here, giving to Nashville another mammoth department connected with the na- tional Baptist publishing board that will equal If not surpass the magnifi- cent strides already made in leading other cities of the United States for denominational endeavor.
