1. Excavate unsuitable, unstable or unconsolidated sub-grade material and compact the area, which has been cleared.Backfill and level with 3/4” road base, suitable for walkways and road/driveways (typically 3” - 6” for pedestrian walk-ways and 8” - 10” for driveway applications), or as otherwise directed by site engineer/architect/landscape architect.
2. Place bedding course of Sakrete® All Purpose Sand or concrete sand to a uniform depth of approximately 1” leveled to grade.
3. Layout the desired location of your paverswith a string line or marking paint. Installpavers hand tight, following your pattern and extending the pavers over your lines.
4. Following all manufacturer’s instructions, cut your pavers with a cutting tool. When cutting pavers, mark the line that you wish tocut and, using your desired cutting device, make a clean, vertical cut. Ensure the fit is accurate and tight. There are four methods to use when cutting your pavers, choose themethod according to your skill and comfort level.1. Use a skill or rotary saw with a diamond blade2. Use a masonry or table saw3. Use a hammer and chisel4. Use a paver guillotine splitter.
5. Install edge restraints using plastic or metal paver rail edging and metal spikes, concrete, or concretecurbing. The edge restraint should fit tightly against the pavers to prevent any paver movement.
6. Tamp pavers with mechanical vibrator, uniformly level, true to grade and free of movement. Textured pavers require arubber pad for the vibrator, to reduce scuffing on the paver tops.
7. Fill voids in paver joints by sweeping dry, fine, sharp sand over pavers.
8. After sweeping the sand into the joints, tamp the pavers with a mechanical vibrator. This will set the sand down intothe pavers. Textured pavers require a rubber pad for the vibrator, to reduce scuffing on the paver tops.
9. Sweep the sand one last time into the paver joints, filling any voids. After the sand has been swept into the pavers, remove any sand dust from the tops of the pavers by lightly blowing the tops using a leaf-blower or an air hose.
