Student Folders Pencils How to Play Soccer book Chart 8-1 (TMpg 63) Highlighter Tape
Connection: On Tuesday we learned about the importance of a Title
o A title can let the reader know what your book is abouto It also reminds you, the writer, to make sure that all your pages are
connected to the title. This means your pages should be the steps of your “How-to”
title Let s look now…everyone get out your how to book
Do your steps match your how-to title?o Circle that step if it does not
Teaching Point: Today I want you to use the How-to chart to make sure your How-to book
has each of the steps included. I also want to teach you when you write a how-to book you are talking
directly to the reader…so, we need to use the word “you” in your steps.o First you…o Then you…o Look at How-To Play Soccer Book
Look at each page and fine “you” and highlight with tape
Active Engagement: Now you all get to try this. Take out your how to books Let’s check to see if you used the words “you” when describing your steps.
o If yes, check the chart (TM pg 63) and see what you need to do next.o If no, you need to use the word “you” so that your reader is reading
your book as if they are doing each step.
Let’s Get to Work! Check each students book to make sure there is a title, Labeled steps, and
using “you” in each step.
