A NEW HEATER

Apen Group has redesigned the new series of floorstanding heaters PK-N, in order to improve thetechnical performances and consequently the safety,the efficiency and the quality, meeting therequirements of customized solutions and respectfor the environment.

The outfit has been improved thanks to thealuminium frames that, placed on the panels, makethe geometric figures more harmonious.

Therefore they fit in the installation ambient, bothindustrial and civil.

MODELS: PKA-N PKE-N

PK-N heaters can be supplied in two versions:

• PKA-N: floor standing warm air heaters for indoorinstallation

• PKE-N: floor standing warm air heaters for outdoorinstallation

The PKE-N heaters differ from the PKA-N in theprotecting cover, that guarantees to the burner, theelectrical and safety components, inside of it, acomplete weather-protection.

The panelling structure of the whole heater (burnercasing included) warrants an IP44 protectiondegree.

CONSTRUCTION FEATURES

PKA-N HEATER

+

• Stainless steel AISI 430 combustion chamber ,with high exchange surface (with higher volume inrespect to the thermal load). Thanks to its particularshape, it assures low thermal loads and an uniformheat distribution.

• Reverse flame combustion chamber , with threepass combustion circuit, completely welded, toassure a long operating life.

• High efficiency stainless steel AISI 304 heatexchanger constituted by a conic section tube heatexchanger with aerodynamic profile.

• Patented tube heat exchanger(Patent n° MI94U00260 dd. 08th April 1994).

• Exchanger tubes and plates are T.I.G. welded.

• One front and four rear inspection panels on theheat exchanger made in stainless steel AISI 430.

• Insulation of the inspection panels made inceramic fibre .

• Sight glass with combustion chamber pressuretap.

• Insulation panel for the burner plate made inmineral fibre.

CAPACITYThe working principle of the PK-N Heater is verysimple.

The ambient air (7) to be heated is sucked by thecentrifugal fan (5) through the aspiration grille (1),and it is heated (8) passing on the combustionchamber (3) and on the heat exchanger (4).

The hot air (9) is then thrown in the ambient, directlyby an outlet plenum, or through a duct system.

The heater has the following safety devices(10):fan thermostat and safety thermostat.

All main electrical components are fitted in theelectrical board (6) .

Upon request, the heater can be supplied withburner (2).

WORKING PRINCIPLES

HOW TO CHOOSE THERIGHT MODEL

Our large range of models can satisfy anyrequirement:

• PKA-N: indoor floor standing heater:

-13 models with capacity from 26 kW to 920 kW;

-three available static pressure configurations, thatallow the choice among a total of 37 standardversions.

• PKE-N outdoor floor standing heater:

-13 models with capacity from 26kW to 920 kW;

-two available static pressure configurations, thatallow the choice among a total of 24 standardversions.

CAPACITY RANGE

To choose the right model, the following itemsmust be considered:

• the use (heating, process plants or other),

• the kind of operation (seasonal or continuous),

• the kind of coupled burner (on/off, two stages ormodulating)

MODELS

Page 5: pka_ing

AVAILABLE STATICPRESSURES

The standard available static pressures are:

-version 00A (only for PKA-N), installation withplenum, where there is no need of high air pressure.This allows the use of motor with lower speed,consequently assuring lower running costs, thanksto a saving in the consumption, and higher comfortthanks to the low level noise;

-version 10A, with medium available static pressurevalues, for installation with duct systems when noparticular pressure is needed;-version 20A , with high available static pressure, forinstallations with articulated duct systems or withhigh air speed.

AVAILABLE STATIC PRESSURE

WORKING FIELD

Each heater has a wide working field, that goes fromthe minimum power, with a maximum certifiedefficiency from 93.1% to 94.6%, to the maximumpower with a minimum efficiency from 87.5% to90.8%.

The use of an oversized heater with regard to theambient heat request, allows a higher plantefficiency. As you can see from the followingdiagram, should the ambient heat request be of 190kW, using a PKA190N heater, the efficiency is of90.5%; whereas using a PKA 250N, the efficiencygoes up to 92.5%.

CERTIFIED QUALITY

The PK-N heaters are built in conformity with theEuropean Norms PR EN 1020.

They are approved by GASTEC with CE markn. 0063AQ0300 according to the Gas Directive 90/396/CEE.

They comply with Machines Directive 89/392/EEC,Low Voltage Directive 72/23/EEC, Electro MagneticCompliance EMC 89/336/CEE.

Each heater has been approved to operate witha working field between a minimum andmaximum value .

ACCESSORIES

PK-N: INSTALLATION

Thanks to its flexibility, suitableness and possibilityof customized installations, the PK-N heater canmeet any heating requirement.

The following illustrations show the differentheater installations.

VERTICAL AND ORIZONTAL INSTALLATION OF

PK-N HEATER

INSTALLATION OF PKA-N HEATER IN AMBIENT

WITH PLENUM AND FILTER

1 Air inlet filter2 Air outlet plenum

On request, the PK-N heaters can be supplied withplenum for the air distribution and air filter for theambient purification.

Distribution plenum

The plenum is supplied with bifilar louvers suitablefor the use in industrial and commercialenvironments.The accurate design and manufacturing allow toobtain a plenum with louvers assuring high airdelivery with strong air throw and reduced pressurelosses.

The standard plenum is manufactured with the airthrow in three directions: two short sides and onelong side.

On specific request, it can be supplied with the airthrow on two long sides and one short side.

OUTDOOR INSTALLATION OF PKE-NHEATER WITH DUCT SYSTEM

1 Inlet air duct (where recirculation is allowed)2 Outlet air duct3 Inlet air filter

Page 7: pka_ing

Discharge

The heater is a B23 type, that is an appliancewithout draught switch and with burner fan beforethe heat exchanger.

The heater can be connected both to flue ducts andchimneys.

SAVING

The PK-N heaters guarantee a real savingaccording to:

• installation: if positioned directly in the ambient tobe heated with air distribution through plenum, theplant costs are very low;

• operation: high efficiency and heating of theambient in short time guarantee efficiency andenergy saving;

• service: the maintenance operations are easy andfast.

MAINTENANCE

All the maintenance operations are particularlysimple and fast and guarantee the heater'sefficiency.

To reach the heat exchanger, it is sufficient to takeoff the front inspection panel.

The fan cleaning can be made with a compressorand with a vacuum cleaner.

The filters can be regenerated through thecleaning with compressed air.

It should be noted that in the installations withduct systems, the filter positioned inside can beremoved for servicing and maintenance withoutany need to disconnect the ducts.

Air filter

The air filter has been designed and manufacturedin modacrilic fibre, fire-proof class 1, can be used incontinuous service up to a maximum temperature of80°C and has an average efficiency equal to 85%(according to the EN 779 Norm) corresponding toclass G3.

The air filters, in the standard versions, have beendimensioned to make the aspiration only from oneside.In case of particular requirements, for examplehorizontal or downflow installations, contact ApenGroup to obtain the right sizing.

In case of particular needs, Apen Group can designand manufacture plenum custom-made.
