50 Cal Bolt Action Pen Kit
Preparing the Blank: (NOTE for Solid Tip - Use instructions for
3/8” tube only)• Cut blank(s) to the length of the tubes and add
1/16” for squaring off.• Drill 8mm & 3/8” holes lengthwise
through the blanks.• Spread glue over the tubes, insert the blanks
with a twisting motion to spread the glue evenly inside.• Center
the tubes lengthwise inside the blanks.• When the glue is dry,
square the ends of the blanks. Use a 8mm & 3/8” barrel
trimmers, or a universal pen blanksquaring jig with a power disc
sander. Take the excess material down fl ush with the ends of the
brass tube. (do nottrim beyond the length of the tube since this
may interfere with operation of the mechanism and assembly). Use
abarrel trimmer to clean the inside of the tube.

AssemblyLay out parts according to Diagram AInspect the
cartridge components. While inspection is made prior to packaging,
it is important to make one fi nal check. Make sure that the open
ends are straight and free of burrs before pressing. If cut is
noticeably angled, it is recommended that it be carefully evened
with a disc sander or fi le. Be sure not to shorten overall
length.Assembly of the Middle Section:• Press the Mid Coupler into
the smaller end of the Middle Barrel.• Press the Back Coupler into
the Opposite end of the Mid Barrel.• Press the Front Coupler into
the Lower Cartridge.• Press the Lower Cartridge onto the open end
of the Mid Coupler.For turned tip only:• Press the small tip into
the narrow end of the front barrel.• Press the small threaded
coupler into the opposite end of the front barrel.For both styles:•
Insert the slider wide diameter in fi rst into the opening at the
upper cartridge. Locate the threaded hole at the large diameter.
When located,
insert the bolt. Thread through the slot down to the bottom.
Adjust the bolt such that the ball is at a 90º to the upper
cartridge. Use a thinphillips screw driver through the slider tube
and tighten the set screw to secure the bolt in place.
• Slide this assembly through the back coupler. Press the back
assembly/upper cartridge onto the back coupler.• Affi x the spring
over the refi ll, drop the refi ll into the opening.• Screw the
tip/tip assembly into the front coupler.• To operate the pen, press
down with your thumb on the bolt into the bay for use.

Turning the Blank (If making turned tip - refer to turned tip
assembly)• Mount the bushings and blanks according to diagram B.•
Thread on the knurled nut and hand tighten to hold all components
in place.• Slide the tailstock up snugly against the mandrel shaft
inserting the live center point into the mandreldimple, lock in
place.
• Hand tighten the quill adjustment to fi rm up the mandrel. (DO
NOT overtighten, it could damage themandrel.
• Using sharp tools, turn the blank down close to the bushing
diameter. Turn the barrel (straight or to aprofi le of your
choice)
• Sand the blank(s) down to be fl ush with the bushings
gradually increasing the sandpaper grits.• Finish the barrel(s)
with your choice of polish. Allow suffi cient time for the polish
to cure.Refer to polish instructions.
• (A)Use setup when turning tip.• (B)Use set up when making
either barrel.
