Meet the teacher evenings: Thank you to all the parents who attended the ‘Meet the Teacher’ evenings this
week. It was a good chance to get an overview of the programmes we have in place, and learn of our expectations and plans for
the coming year. Remember we do genuinely operate an ‘open door’ policy and we are here to provide the best possible learning
opportunities for your children. If you were unable to attend, you can pick up a booklet from your child’s teacher and of course
all staff are available to see you before school and after school Tuesday through to Friday.
Responsibility: At the ‘Meet the Teacher’ meetings all staff talked about responsibility in varying ways. As you will have heard
and seen we provide a wide range of opportunities at our school in and out of the classroom. It does require children to be ready
to learn every day with the necessary tools; good food, plenty of sleep and a positive attitude! We do put a lot of emphasis on our
children taking responsibility for their learning and behaviour through our very transparent learning programmes. Student
learning and achievement is most powerful when students know what they are learning, what their next learning steps are and
how to set goals and reflect on their learning. At present our children are setting goals with their teachers and these will be
shared in their learning portfolios which will be coming home later in the term.
Life Education: This Friday we welcome Nicky Wise, our wonderful Life Education teacher, and Harold back to Pirongia School.
We highly value the learning that this programme gives to our children and will detail this in next week’s newsletter. The cost of
Life Education is covered in your Activity fee.
Techie Brekkies; We have had requests to have more of these and we are keen to get these up and running again this year and
are thinking Techie Afternoon tea...quick workshops straight after school where you can come in with your questions. Let us
know if that sounds like a plan by emailing your child’s teacher or the office, with preferred times and questions.
Linda: Thank you to all those who have been enquiring about Linda. She is healing slowly and appreciates the support shown by
everyone. She is very disappointed that this has happened and longing to be back at school. We will keep Rm 6 families updated.
School Crossing: We ask that you please use the crossing at the front of the school. It is there for you and your children’s
safety. We also ask that you NOT park on the yellow lines around the crossing as this seriously hinders visibility when we are
operating at crossing times.
School Assemblies: There is assembly this Friday and Kahikatea Team will be presenting. If you are new to the school, assembly
starts at 2.15pm in the Activity Centre and all parents are welcome. This year you will see that assembly dates are featured
in the newsletter, and which team is presenting. Teachers may be presenting more than one merit award to ensure that all
