  • PIPINGINTRODUCTION

Piping drawing shows a piping system in the form of isometric drawing. Piping drawing shows the position of accessories, fixture to be installed as well as the water flow direction. The types of piping drawing discussed in this section is the domestic piping system for a residential building.

  • Orthographic Piping Drawingdraw as a floor plan, all fixtures are drawn using standard symbols. The pipe is drawn with a single line without dimensionThe cold water pipeline is drawn as a continuous line while hot water pipe is drawn as phantom line.Refer Figure 1.1TYPES OF PIPING DRAWING

There are two types of piping drawing, namely, the orthographic and isometric piping drawing.

  • Isometric Piping DrawingRegularly used because it is easier to understand. This type of piping drawing shows the relative position of fixtures and accessories. All fixtures and pipeline are drawn according to isometric plane.Refer Figure 1.2

  • Standard Piping SymbolsIn piping drawing , pipelines, water flow direction and fixtures are accessories in standard piping symbols.Table 1.1 shows standard tee joint symbols

  • Standard Piping SymbolsTable 1.2 shows standard elbow joint symbols

  • DOMESTIC PIPING SYSTEMDomestic water supply system can be divided into direct and indirect systems.

Direct SystemWater is supplied directly from the service pipe to the sanitary fixtures. The water tank is only used as a hot water cylinder (for homes with hot water supply)Refer Figure 1.3

  • Indirect System

Indirect system supplies water from the service pipe into a water tank.Water from the tank is supplied to the sanitary fixtures through a system of distribution pipes.Refer Figure 1.4

  • Application of Piping DrawingPiping by LawsEach home must have a water meter. The consumer is responsible for the maintenance of the piping from the distribution pipe to the outlets as well as the water meter. The kitchen sink tap must have direct water supply.

  • Application of Piping DrawingEach outlet must be equipped with stopcock. Each home that has more than two taps must use a water tank. The water heater must be directly supplied by the water tank.Water tank must be equipped with overflow pipe.
