American Red Cross • Helps keep families together in times of emergency and promotes family safety and preparedness. Services include: aid to disaster victims, emergency communications for military families, and training in First Aid/CPR. Boy Scouts of America • Supports scouting programs through training staff and leaders and providing required materials and supplies. Involved youth participate in fun and adventure activities designed to develop leadership qualities. Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa & Western Illinois • Girl Scouts builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. Girl Scouts discover the fun, friendship, and power of girls together. Girls in grades K-12 learn the three keys to leadership: discover, connect and take action. Helping Services for Northeast Iowa • Working to end domestic violence and child abuse; build healthy families, friendships, and relationships; and reinforce positive decision-making about alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use. Nisse Preschool & Kids Place • Offers preschool tuition assistance and after-school scholarships for qualifying families. Children learn social and academic skills. Northeast Iowa Area Agency on Aging • United Way funding provides support services to caregivers, including respite, support groups, emergency response systems, and information and referral assistance. Northeast Iowa Community Action • Assists low-income residents with crisis situations such as utility disconnects; emergency filling of LP/fuel oil; eviction from home. Also, qualifying children receive swim passes and registration for park/rec programs. Northeast Iowa Food Bank • Provides nutritious food and hunger education locally to approximately 200 nonprofit organizations, including the Greater Area Food Pantry (Calmar) and First Lutheran Food Pantry (Decorah). The Food Bank also supports the BackPack Program. This program ensures children come to school alert and ready to learn by sending home foods that are shelf-stable, kid-friendly and healthy. Northeast Iowa RSVP • Assists with expenses associated with volunteer support costs for approximately 275 volunteers who serve 50 nonprofit agencies. Opportunity Homes • Provides residential options to individuals experiencing a variety of cognitive and physical disabilities. Focus is on teaching life skills that will promote participation and inclusion in the community. Ossian De Sales Child Care Center • Provides child care for children as young as 6 weeks of age as well as after-school activities and summer field trips for toddler through school-age youngsters. Tuition assistance is available for qualifying families. Pinebluff 4-H Camp • Promotes outdoor learning experiences for all ages on 115 acres. Trails are maintained for exercise and learning about the environment. Includes kitchen and camping facilities. The Spectrum Network • Guides people with disabilities toward independent living by teaching bill paying and budgeting; hygiene and health; job skills; applying, interviewing, and keeping a job. Sunflower Child Development Center • Provides child care, preschool, and before & after school care with age-appropriate activities, including educational tutoring, physical fitness and nutrition, and music appreciation. Thunder Rode •A therapeutic horsemanship program in Northeast Iowa that provides horse activities for individuals with special needs throughout the community. Service offerings include sports therapy, Iowa Thunder youth empowerment and Tri-State Thunder Vets. Toys Go ’Round Toy Lending Library • Provides a variety of toys for a child’s learning enjoyment. Operates like a regular library where over 1,000 toys, puzzles and games plus infant equipment can be checked out by members. Membership is open to anyone in the Winneshiek County area. WMC-Farmers Market Senior Nutrition Program • Furnishes seniors, age 65 and over, with coupons that can be redeemed for fresh, locally grown produce at the Decorah Farmers Market from June through October. of Winneshiek County www.unitedwaywinnco.org
