What ;me of year is it?

It’s ;me for our annual Garage Sale, September

28, so start going through your closets and look

under the bed for those pescky items that don’t

fit or just isn’t your style any more! Those are

the perfect items for this fun-raiser! It will be

held at Saint Diane Welch’s house again, she

will be handing out signup sheets for the week

before September 23-27 for us to come over

Chinese Auction WOW!!! What a fantastic Chinese Auction. Hats off to Marsha Lewis and friends from the Lighthouse for setting up a spectacular arrangement of treasures that netted $432 in profit. We budgeted $350

so we already have exceeded the budgeted goal for the first Fundraising event of the Pilot year. Laurie Kaye from Boca Raton was a guest at our Chinese Auction.† She enjoyed herself and even won one of the raffles, actually she made a very special trade with Diane Trask, when they discovered they wanted each other's items.. Thanks to everyone who brought in items and to the members and

guests who supported the auction.

Sail Pilots!

Chaplin’s Corner Have you checked out the Florida District website?

There is a vast amount of informa;on to be found there,

check it out: www.piloDlorida.org and sign up your

e-mail address.

Next on the horizon is the Garage Sale. This will be a LARGE sale and we need all hands on deck to help during the week before (Sept. 23 – 27) and the big day. Our goal is $1,173.97. I am con.ident that we can make at least this amount. Sign-up sheets will be on the tables for volunteers to help in the evenings and on the big day. Please keep in mind that this is “free” money for our budget. Actually the cost is about $100.00 for the ads placed in the Pennysaver and News-Journal. Bring your sale items any evening to my home. If you need me to pick up large items, Tony’s cousin, Edward will be coming that week and has a pick up. We can pick up your large donations on Tuesday evening (Sept. 24). The other great news is that the Junior Class from Father Lopez High School will be joining us. They are bringing things to sell to earn money for the Junior Class. The best part is that we will have the “man-power” we need to get set up in the morning and countless other shoppers that day. Collector of Dollars for Pilot, Diane Welch

Fund Raising

We are star#ng the 2013-14 year with a bang by

installing three members! Tony Welch, husband of

Diane Welch, and a familiar voice in broadcas#ng in

Volusia County, joined the club on July 23rd. Laura

Yard, M.D., an Addic#ons and Wellness Specialist,

also was installed on the same day. Meg Doherty, a Registered

Professional Nurse became a member on August 13th.

Pilots Shar Barron & Cindy Watkins a*ended The

Great Gatsby Celebra;on on August 23, for the

Grand Reopening of the newly renovated Olds

Hall living room, built in 1922. In honor of this

event food & music from this era were

enjoyed as many of the guest a*ending the

fes;vi;es dressed in 1920s costumes and cars

from this era were on hand to view.

September is Pilot Interna;onal Founders Fund Month.

End each year Pilot clubs throughout the

organiza;on nominate a Pilot Sweetheart from

within their club’s membership. The Pilot that is

elected is one that club members feel truly

represents the Pilot Spirit of Working together in

Friendship and Service and an individual that

par;cipates in the Founda;ons focus project of Brain

Related Disorders. A contribu;on will be sent to the

Founda;on and the recipient’s name will be printed in

the January/February Pilot Log. Members in

a*endance will vote for their selec;on at our

September 10th Program mee;ng and the nominee will

be announced at our September 24th Program

mee;ng; which will be hosted by the Pilot

Interna;onal Founders Fund Area.

September is Founders Fund Month

Yearbook Update

As far back as I can

remember in my “Pilot

World” I have had an

apprecia;on for the

person(s) who put

together the club

yearbook. This year I

can report that the apprecia;on has grown

exponen;ally especially when I have loss of sleep over

“the book”.

A huge thank you must be given to the team of

members who have ;relessly worked to be certain that

there are as few errors as possible. We know that even

though we have been over the pages countless ;mes,

there will be mistakes.

A second thank you must be given to Tony and Bill who

have managed to secure ads that will total nearly $900.

With the prin;ng cost at approximately $500 (give or

take a few dollars), we will be in fine shape with a book

we all can be proud of.

A third thank you must be given to Leanne and others

who supplied new pictures. Through their pa;ence, I

have learned to import photos, adjust, crop, rotate,

resize and sharpen these images.

A final thank you goes to the club who entrusted our

team to produce the finished product. I expect to have

the copy material delivered to the printer by the end of

next week so hopefully we will have the books in our

hands by the program mee;ng of September. Please

let me know if you think you will be wan;ng to have

more than one book. The current plan is that the order

will be for approximately 150 books. Each member

automa;cally gets one copy and every other copy aPer

that will cost $5.00.

Pilot Love,

Diane W. (Assistant to Bill and Sylvia)

Keeping Up with our Scholarship Girls….

Julia Schap, our Pilot Scholarship House

resident is back in school for the fall semester.

She has reported that our “House” is in great

shape and that she just loves her new

roommate. All of the houses in Gainesville had

their “back to school” get together last weekend

so they could meet and greet new residents.

Ka;e and Pam Ingle* are in other houses

but have the same protec;on and care we

give our Pilot House girls.

One of the great things about the scholarship

houses is that these young ladies and gentlemen

are learning things they could never possibly

learn outside of this environment. First hand

they are learning responsibility, ethics, sharing,

and being a team player. Every resident in our

three houses could not have the college

experience in these great universi;es without

our con;nued support and help.

Regions Bank Money Market Account has been transferred to Gateway Bank Money Market Account to earn the higher interest return.
