Berlin Brandenburg International – EDDB
Hello and welcome to the new airport of Berlin – Berlin Brandenburg International.
Located approx. 24km south of Berlin, it will replace both Tegel and Schönefeld and remain
Berlins only airport. In the next few pages, we woud like to introduce common procedures
used at our airport so you can familiarize yourself with this new airport.
We hope you enjoy our new airport as much as we do!

1.2 Airport Layout As the new part of Berlin-Brandenburg opened on the 31.10.2020 many new procedures are
in place at the airport. As of right now some sceneries include a basically correct layout with
just some misnamed taxiways and a few missing taxiways north of runway 07L/25R, others
are missing parts at the new main terminal as well. Links to Sceneries for multiple simulators
are provided in chapter 4.
Therefore, the use of current charts is expected for pilots to fully understand all taxi
procedures.

Standard Taxi Procedures:
The charts below display standard taxi routes conducted at EDDB. If you are assigned a gate
at Terminal 1, expect to switch sides via VM. (e.g. taxi to gate B02 via V1, VM, V2).
VM is the crossing in the middle of the main apron (abeam gates B08/09 and D11/12).
You will also be instructed to taxi to Entry north/entry south, they are located on V3/V4
between C and F and on V1/V2 between B and E respectively.

2. Flying to and from Berlin 2.1 Clearance & Startup (Delivery, DEL) EDDB_DEL is the clearance delivery station at Berlin.
A clearance in Berlin (and mostly the rest of Germany) will contain:
- Information about the current ATIS
- Clearance for engine startup (can also be delayed in case of expected delays).
Important: Startup clearance does not mean pushback clearance.
- Your Standard Instrument Departure (SID) or in rare cases instructions for a vectored
departure. A list of the current SIDs can be found below.
- The initial climb for your SID
- Your squawk code
EDDB SIDs:
If you are unable to comply with these SIDs request a vectored departure on initial contact with
clearance delivery.
2.2 Pushback and Taxi (Ground/Apron, GND) Apron is responsible for pushback and the initial taxi of all aircraft parked at the terminals.
As there can be a lot of traffic, it is important to strictly adhere to given clearances, in order to
reduce the chance of possible conflicts. To ensure an adequate traffic flow, have your tow truck
already connected if you request pushback. In case you have doubts or didn’t fully understand your
clearance it’s important to just ask the responsible controller, he will happily help you out.
To prepare your taxi you can take a look at the standard taxi procedures stated in chapter 2.1 which
are used most of the time.
Apron also covers delivery if delivery is offline.
Ground is the station responsible for the last part of your taxi. The ground controller only covers the
stations designated as N_GND and S_GND. In case there is no N/S_GND, Tower will cover this area!

2.3 Take-Off and Landing (Tower, TWR) Different holding points will be used for traffic sequencing and according to the aircraft’s needs.
If you would like to have a specific intersection for departure, tell the controller.
Prior to your departure, you should double check your transponder and make sure it has the correct
squawk code set and operates in Mode C.
Tower will hand you over to the appropriate controller. Arriving and departing traffic must remain
on the tower frequency until further advised! This differs from real life procedures stated in the
charts but is necessary for vatsim.
2.4 Approach and Departure (APP/DEP/DIR) Departing traffic:
It is very important to strictly adhere to your SID and initial climb until given further instructions!
When contacting the new controller after being told by tower, you should listen for other traffic
talking on frequency to not interrupt them.
Arriving traffic:
Due to the airspace structure around Berlin, there is no speed limit below FL100 unless instructed by
ATC. In case you do not receive any speed restrictions, make sure to be at an appropriate speed
when intercepting the ILS.
On first contact with arrival, make sure to have checked the current ATIS and report the ATIS letter in
your initial call.
On initial contact with Berlin Director (EDBB_F/U_APP) state your callsign only unless instructed
otherwise by the previous controller.
Runway assignment is also done by director, approach will most likely not be able to tell you
beforehand. In case there is no director, runway assignment is done by APP.
Do not report „established on ILS“ unless the controller requests you to do so.
ILS Frequencies:
2.5 Radar (Center, CTR) Berlin does not have traditional STARs anymore, therefore expect to be cleared for a transition. The
transition does not correlate with the actual runway assignment (e. g. KLF25L transition can also be
cleared for aircraft landing on runway 25R). Common procedure during low to mid traffic situations
are directs to waypoints stated as DBxxx. If you are cleared for such a direct, you should follow the
transition after that waypoint.

It is important to activate the BER in your custom scenery folder, a tutorial can be found in the
manual.
3.2 Prepar3D Freeware: shadowmedia Berlin-Brandenburg

It is important that you have installed the current update of Aerosoft’s EDDB Scenery, otherwise the
ILS frequencies for runway 07R/25L are not correct.
The update can be found through the Aerosoft updater.

4. VFR There are also changes for VFR traffic in and around Berlin.
The initial radio contact for VFR traffic on the ground at EDDB should be made on EDDB_DEL
(121.600). If Delivery is offline, first contact should be with A_GND even if he is not responsible for
the GAT.
Airborne traffic is supposed to contact TWR 5 minutes prior to reaching the reporting point on which
you desire to enter. The main tower frequency is 120.020 which shall always be used by traffic
arriving via reporting point N, traffic entering the control zone via reporting point M should call
tower on 118.800 if he’s online, otherwise call 120.020 as well.
Due to airspace restructuring the D airspace of EDDB has changed, which means that old charts are
invalid and the previous reporting points no longer exist. Another change is the fact that EDDB and
EDDT, which will have a D(HX) control zone only active per NOTAM from 08.11.2020, no longer share
a direct border. If you want to fly across Berlin, this gives you the possibility to stay in uncontrolled
airspace.
Reporting Point N is located at Britzer Garten, a park with a small lake at the southern end of Berlin,
M is located at the highway exit Mittenwalde, between the city of Mittenwalde and Zeesen.

In the picture above, you can see the control zones of EDDB and EDDT. Unlike in the past they are not
connected as previously mentioned, which allows you to cross Berlin in uncontrolled airspace. If you
would like to fly this route it is important to keep an eye out for the restricted area ED-R 146, which
is always active between GND and 5000ft and the EDDB control zone. The location of the restricted
area means that there is a tight space for crossing without violation of any airspace and you should
always be looking out for other traffic at this hotspot.
