PIEZOELECTRICITY

EVOLUTION AND FUTURE OF TECHNOLOGY

Page 2: Piezoelectricity

INTRODUCTION

This topic deals with the future perspective of electricity power generation produced from mechanical pressure (including motions such as walking) with the help of “PIEZOCRYSTALS”.

Once the

pressure is

relieved,

electrical current

flows across the

material.

Page 5: Piezoelectricity

The crystals

become polarized

and produce an

emf or voltage that

is proportional to

the amount of

force

Page 6: Piezoelectricity

The piezoelectric effect

occurs in certain crystals.

Those that are affected

include quartz, Rochelle

salts and tourmaline.

Quartz crystals are found in

watches, filters, injectors.

Rochelle salts, because of their

sensitivity, are favored for audio

applications such as

loudspeakers, headphones and

microphones.

APPLICATIONS

Page 10: Piezoelectricity

3. BY PLACING PIEZOELECTRIC PILES

BENEATH THE ROAD WE CAN PRODUCE

200KWH PER HOUR ON AN AVG PER KM

OF A SINGLE LANE.

Recently

piezoelectric

floors have

debuted in a

handful of

innovative dance

clubs around the

world.

PIEZOELECTRIC EFFECT

1. Sound waves

striking a PZ

material

produce an

electrical signal

2. Can be used to

detect sound (and

echoes)!

In early 2008, the

East Japan Railway

Company (JR East)

installed

piezoelectric pads in

the flooring at the

ticket gates at a

station in Tokyo

ADVANTAGES

Page 17: Piezoelectricity

Infrastructure is

not required for

this alternative

energy

harvesting

system.(such as

NTPC…)

Page 18: Piezoelectricity

A Vast area is

not

required.(such

as solar energy

production…)

Page 19: Piezoelectricity

Revolutionary feature is that it harvests wasted mechanical energy.
