!}Homer William Stevens was born in Woodstock, illinois, January 4,1874, and lived there untd he was two years old, At that time his familymoved to Iowa, and from there, eight years [ater, to South Dakota, onon immIgrant train.
At the age of twenty-one, he entered Yankton College and AcademyDuring his freshman year he enlisted in the United States Army andwas sent to the Philippines to fight In the Spanish-American War, leavIng San Francisco in July, 1898. In October, 1899, he went back toYankton, finished his junior year, and went on to the University of Minnesota, where he received a B.A degree in 1902 The some year, hemarried MISS Della Goding, a graduate of Yankton, and a friend of hissince childhood
After a year as supenntendent of schools in Scotland, South Dakota,Mr Stevens returned to the Law School of the UniverSity of MinnesotaIn 1904, receiving his LL B in 1905, his LL.M. In 1906, and his M.A.in 1907 When he received hiS MA, he was taken Into the law facultyat Minnesota and remained there until 1912, when he left the UniverSItyfor publ ic school work
Except for two years spent in Oregon among timber interests, heremained in public school work until 1921, when he come to Piedmontas teacher of economics and director of the high school then a part ofPiedmont His second year here was spent as head of the educationdepartment and as economics teacher He was made head of thesummer school in 1924, remainIng In this position for four years.
Twelve years ago he was made head of the deportment of socialscience and has seen this deportment increase from a class with a membership of twelve or fifteen to one of the largest classes in the college
In a family of four sisters and three brothers, Mr Stevens learnedquite early the values of sportsmanship. Always interested in athletiCS,he helped organize a baseball league in the Army. His team, for whichhe was catcher, played in Tokyo and Yokahoma, Japan
At present Mr and Mrs. Stevens live on a form a mile from Demorest, where Mrs. Stevens grows beautiful flowers and Mr Stevens indulges In his love for forming, They have two daughters, graduates ofPiedmont, who are now public school workers.
Always the soldier, Mr Stevens now serves as chairman of the Hob.ersham County Draft Board, while carrying on his duties at the collegeand on his form.
