User Manual Picador 3D® OTHER 3D OBJECTS 17

OTHER 3D OBJECTS

Create a 3D revolution type. To create a revolution solid, you have to define a contour in BRICSCAD. Draw the contour in the positive quarter plane (x >0, y >0), axis Y being the axis of revolution. You can then load the dxf file in Packedia 3D and create a 3D revolution solid using tool

'Create new solid by revolution' .

Page 18: Picador 3D - TreeDiM Guide PICADOR 3D.pdf · To check the kinematics of folding faces, select tab 'Definition by face'. ... User Manual Picador 3D® CREATE A FOLDED PART FROM A 2D

User Manual Picador 3D® OTHER 3D OBJECTS 18

Create a 3D solid by extrusion To create an extruded solid type, you have to define a contour in BRICSCAD. Direction of extrusion is orthogonal to the screen. You can then load the dxf file in Packedia 3D and create an extruded solid using tool

'Create new solid by extrusion' .

Page 19: Picador 3D - TreeDiM Guide PICADOR 3D.pdf · To check the kinematics of folding faces, select tab 'Definition by face'. ... User Manual Picador 3D® CREATE A FOLDED PART FROM A 2D

User Manual Picador 3D® OTHER 3D OBJECTS 19

Check box 'Close extremities' allows closing the extruded part extremities.

Import a 3D solid

To import an existing 3D object, use the 'import new solid' tool and navigate to a 3D asset file. Lots of format are supported, among which stl,obj and collada...

(import new solid)

STL files are especially used for rapid prototyping and can be exported by most CAD softwares (SolidWorks™, Autocad™, SolidEdge™, Catia™, …).

User Manual Picador 3D® 3D ASSEMBLY 20

3D ASSEMBLY

Overview of 3D assembly

The assembly is carried out from the 3D window, inserting 3D object types that have been previously created or imported.

When a package or a POS display made of several pieces is created, there are several ways to build an assembly.

1st option : build a 2D dxf document containing all the parts together.

BRICSCAD view:

cover + bottom

Then, load the dxf document in Packedia 3D:

- use Create new foldable solid to create cover.

Note that an instance of this first type is also included in the assembly model (3D window).

- use Create new foldable solid to create bottom,

You will need to create an instance of the type 'bottom' by draging the leaf that correspond to this type in the model explorer tree and dropping it on the 'Assemby' branch.

Page 21: Picador 3D - TreeDiM Guide PICADOR 3D.pdf · To check the kinematics of folding faces, select tab 'Definition by face'. ... User Manual Picador 3D® CREATE A FOLDED PART FROM A 2D

User Manual Picador 3D® 3D ASSEMBLY 21

2nd option : build as much 2D and 3D documents as there are parts.

BRICSCAD views:

cover + bottom

- load the 'cover.dxf' file in Packedia 3D.

- use Create new foldable solid to create 'cover' type

-load the 'bottom.dxf' file in Packedia 3D

- use Create new foldable solid to create 'bottom' type

- create a new packedia 3D 'assembly' document and drag&drop types ('cover','bottom') from 'cover.des3' and 'bottom.des3' to 'assembly.des3' type branch.

Alternatively, you could use tool the 'Transfer entities from one file to another' tool.

Page 22: Picador 3D - TreeDiM Guide PICADOR 3D.pdf · To check the kinematics of folding faces, select tab 'Definition by face'. ... User Manual Picador 3D® CREATE A FOLDED PART FROM A 2D

User Manual Picador 3D® 3D ASSEMBLY 22

- then, you can create an instance of each type in the assembly window by using drag&drop.

Insert types in the 3D view Once created or importer, 3D types object (foldable solid, revolution solid, extruded solid, 3D asset solid) can be inserted in the assembly view using the model explorer tree. Either right click a type and select 'Create new solid...' or drag a type and drop it on the assembly branch.

Page 23: Picador 3D - TreeDiM Guide PICADOR 3D.pdf · To check the kinematics of folding faces, select tab 'Definition by face'. ... User Manual Picador 3D® CREATE A FOLDED PART FROM A 2D

User Manual Picador 3D® 3D ASSEMBLY 23

Then, the following dialog appears:

Define the solid name Define the solid position relatively to the global landmark

Right click a type and select function 'Create new solid...'

Page 24: Picador 3D - TreeDiM Guide PICADOR 3D.pdf · To check the kinematics of folding faces, select tab 'Definition by face'. ... User Manual Picador 3D® CREATE A FOLDED PART FROM A 2D

User Manual Picador 3D® 3D ASSEMBLY 24

Global landmark – Local landmark The global landmark in the assembly view correspond to x=0, y=0, z=0, Rx=0, Ry=0, Rz=0. When an object of a given type is inserted in the assembly view, the local landmark position is set to the origin. The local landmark of each solid should be positionned for each animation step.

To display local landmarks use function 'Show solid trihedrons' . Note: For the foldable types, by default, the local landmark depends of the position of the part in the 2D drawing and the selected reference face. Insert BRICSCAD view with the command that helps modifying the drawing position relatively to the origin.

It is a good practise to position the drawing so that the face that ought to be chosen as reference face is near the drawing origin. However, the type position relative to its local landmark can be modified thanks to the Referencial tab:

Local landmark 3D = 2D origin (X;Y) + orientation Z axis orthogonal to reference face

Reference face is anchored in plane XY

ANIMATION 3D

Overview of 3D animation See sample C:\Program Files (x86)\dvs\packedia3D\Samples\complete.des3 Animation 3D allows defining a position of each objects at each step. The software will then linearly interpolate the objets positions between each step. The user should select an object by either double-clicking it in the assembly view or selecting them in the model explorer tree. The following non-modal dialog box appears which offers two ways to define the position: either interactively or by filling the object position array.

See the foldable type 'cover' in its local landmark

See the foldable type 'bottom' in its local landmark

Select the step Select the object to position by double-clicking it in the assembly view

Rotation of the object around axes X,Y,Z

Insert a new step before the current step : a new step will be created applying to all objects the same position as in the current step.

Insert a step after the current step: a new step will be created applying to all objects the same position as in the current step.

Overall dimension (minmax box) of the object at the current step
