First, I would like to thanks my English Language Academic

lecturer Madam Hajah Nurul Amilin Binti Abdullah for her help and

guide to complete this task. At the same time, give us this task to

improve myself in English language. Without her help I will not be able

to complete this task because she explained very clearly, all my doubts

throughout completion of this task.

Next, I would like to thank all my friends who had helped me to

finish my task in searching one of the best short stories. Without their

cooperation I would have never been able to finish my task.

Lastly, I would like to thank my seniors who supported me

I had chosen my short story for my English Language Academic

assignment after I had read a few story books. The title of the book is

The Strange Umbrella and Other Stories. The author by Enid

Blyton and illustrated by Sally Gregory. This book and other Enid

Blytons short stories books had been award asEnid Blytons

Popular Rewards. This book published by Award Publications

Limited, 27 Longford Street, London NW1 3DZ and its text

copyright by The Enid Blyton Company. This book had first

published on 1989 and 17th impression on 2002. For information this

book printed in Singapore. In this short story book contents 17 short

stories. I had read 17 short stories by through and some of the stories

are very interesting. This time I had problem in selecting the most

favourable story to my assignment. At last, I looked into the content of

each story, so as a result I decided to pick The Magic Silver Thread

story among the 17 short stories. In this story got six active and with

some passive characters. Ho-Ho is the main character of this short

story. This story teaches me how to think generally and wisely. I had

enjoyed read this story and got completed on the time.

Ho-Ho was involved in an unexpected incident that totally

changed and became very mysterious on his life in a part of physically

and mentally. He looked very huge and stronger. He became an unkind

and heartless person. He also liked to show his vehemence. He will felt

contented if people proud of him.

Furthermore, the character of Twinkles was played a mode of

achieving his aim on Ho-Ho. He really wanted Ho-Ho to put away from

the social, because he think that Ho-Ho as a disturbance in other life. He

is a good thinker, who gave an idea to tie up Ho-Ho. After he failed once

he never give up easily and go through to the next step, and spent his

entire time to achieve his target on doing a things. In addition, he is

honest person. He once paid the thirteen Smiths who had tried to make

chain as promised before.

Once upon a time there lived a wizard called Deep-Eyes, who had

one son named Ho-Ho. One day, a dreadful thing happened. Deep-

Eyes are made his spell. Suddenly, Ho-Ho took hold of it, jerked it into

the air and spilt it all over himself.

The spell that Deep-Eyes had made to make the witchs apple trees

grow bigger and stronger was acting on his little boy. One winter, it was

very cold indeed and Ho-Ho commanded the towns people to build

him a great castle, but they could not build. They decided him to be

content with a cave. Twinkles a small pixie asked people around them

to manage to tie him up. Twinkles had tried thrice to tied Ho-Ho. At the

last, he success tied used the thread that made by a Peer-About.

As for Ho-Ho, he is usually quiet enough, but you neednt be afraid

that Ho-Ho will ever escape from the silver thread.

The reason why I pick this short story is I liked the main character

who is Ho-Ho. He was played his role as a main character and with

different feature of physical. This story touches my sense, because

most of the people in the town were refuse Ho-Ho from the society.

The flow of story climax was made me to read the full story, to know

what will happen by next. The ending was very interesting because one

of the characters who Peer-About, made a thread which is no thicker

than sewing-cotton to tied Ho-Ho. This few kind of things that made me

to choose this short story for my assignment.

I would like to thank to my lecturer who guided me throughout this

whole process of completion. Without it, I would have never been able

to complete this on time. This assignment is about reviewing a short

story from a source of own preference. While doing this assignment I

have learned more about how to do a synopsis of a story and

appreciate the plot of story.

In part A, I was required to choose own short story from novel or

magazine. Then I have to state the name or title of this story, its author

and publisher. Author and publisher are very important things in a story

books. Before this, I had read lot of story books, even I never been

noticed this at all. By doing this task, I had learned a new thing that in

story books and other books contains the author and publisher as a

proof that the books are written by a person with their name. While

doing this part, I was able to understand better about the main input of

the story.

In part B, I learnt on how to write a brief description two of the

characters from the selected short story. Usually, I will just read

throughout the story or other kind of books without identifying the main

content. But, now I had learned that to understand more clearly about

books content especially in a story books. Firstly, I have to identify the

main personalisation of each character. I was able to differentiate

between main character and side character. Then, I also could to write

synopsis of story and the reason I pick this story as well. In addition, I

had knew why people always do a summary after finished read a story

or notes for their examination, because this will help us to review back

the input and we can understand more better. This are the things that I

had applied in this task to understand the story well.

In conclusion, this assignment has given me a chance to improve

myself in reviewing a short story effectively and I have a better

knowledge about it now and I think I can apply those things in my

regular life and in future as a teacher to teaches my students. By

reading short story I was able to communicate my sense to understand

what the writer like to explain through the story clearly. Lastly, this

assignment has benefited me from the beginning. I had enjoyed done

this task.
