PHYSICAL HEALING MINISTRY 2 SYLLABUS
Certified by the Apostolic Network of Global Awakening
and
The Institute of Applied Theology of United Theological Seminary
Welcome to the Christian Healing Certification Program(CHCP) provided and sponsored by
Global Awakening (GA). Physical Healing Ministry is one of three certification courses offered
by GA, the other two being: deliverance and inner healing (referred to throughout the history of
the Church more often as “Soul Care”). These courses are provided to equip the body of Christ
in areas of healing ministry.
This second course in physical healing will focus on the three primary areas listed below. You
will note as you go through course levels that some repetition for the purposes of review may
occur. This is on purpose, knowing that learning takes place where there are multiple ways the
information is being processed and review is an important part of the learning process.
Students will be exposed to three primary areas:
1. Scriptural examples of how Jesus healed in the Gospels.
2. Christian healing versus new age and other methods of healing
3. Cessationism: what is it, where did it comefrom, and why GA believesit is a
doctrinal system that has had a negative impact upon the Churchand contains
inconsistencies that severely damage its credibilitybiblically

3 | P a g e 3/12/2015
Case Study Guidelines:
Case studies for words of knowledge and five step prayer model may be presented
in the same document if the word of knowledge and five step prayer model are
used for the same person. If two different people are involved, please prepare
separate documents (one per person). Each document should be in Microsoft
Word 2003 or higher. Font should be Times New Roman, and font size should be
12. Each case study should be about 2 pages single-spaced.
Case studies should be presented in chronological order (as the event itself took
place). At least two references should be made, per case study, to videos or books
from the course.
Students are encouraged to begin in week one praying for people using words of
knowledge and five step prayer model and making notes so that in week seven
they have most of their case studies complete.
Once completed, upload your attachment to the discussion question. This can be
done easily when you click on “Add a new discussion topic.” When you are in the
discussion thread, go to the Attachment box and click on “+Add.” You can then
browse for your file and upload it when you post your answer.

Internet connection and email account.
Course Objectives:
1) To expose students to a practical, effective and transferrable model of Christian based
intercessory prayer for physical healing.
2) To equip students with the understanding and spiritual resources necessary to provide
effective Christian based intercessory prayer for physical healing.

Academic Honesty:
All work must be the student’s unless collaboration is required. Collaboration with others,
including other students, is not permitted without permission or assignment from the instructor.
Roommates and spouses taking the same course should be particularly careful. If collaboration is
authorized you must acknowledge the collaboration in writing. If you are unsure what
constitutes plagiarism, review rules of original writing at: http://owl.english.purdue.edu/.

Plagiarism will not be tolerated and the claim of ignorance is no excuse. Those found
plagiarizing may be dropped from the course.
Grades:
Each week the instructor will post in the grade book either a PASS for satisfactory completion of
each assignment, or FAIL for an unsatisfactory grade. At the end of the course, a course grade
of PASS is required to receive certification by Global Awakening. If you do not submit an
assignment, or it is late, the instructor will apply a “Fail”. See following criteria for grading. If
you receive four “Fail” grades, you will not pass the course.
CRITERIA FOR GRADING
Pass
Responses reflect demonstration of having completed the reading(s) or
video(s) or other, and provide “bread crumb” references to the materials.
Reflects additional research and citation. Good personal examples when
required. Answers are well thought out, comprehensive and well presented.
Student views and replies to instructor’s input.
Fail
Responses do not demonstrate a strong evidence of having read or watched /
listened to assigned materials. No “bread crumb trail” references to the
materials. Reflects no effort or personal examples when required. Answers are
not well thought out, and there is excessive poor grammar and/or misspellings
present. Student does not view and reply to instructor’s input.
Discussion Posting Requirements and Guidelines:
The course will run for eight (8) weeks. Course content will be divided into units, with
one unit to be completed each week. Learning experiences such as readings, audio, and
video reviews will be assigned. Students are required to participate in on-line discussions,
as well as with other appropriate online activities including sending/receiving email,
navigating the course, etc.
A class week is defined as the period of time between Monday and Sunday at midnight
Eastern Standard Time (EST). NOTE: Because this is an online course designed to get
feedback on assignments to you directly via Internet, you must make prior arrangements
before submitting an assignment via email, fax or the postal service.
Discussion assignments must be posted by students each week on Thursdays and Sundays
by midnight Eastern Standard Time (EST).
Failure to turn in assignments by the date due, or timely participation in required online
discussions, may result in the student being withdrawn from the course.
Students are responsible to contact instructor directly by email if they are having any
difficulty posting or require additional time with assignments. Failure to do so will result
in a failing grade for that discussion assignment. Four failing grades constitute a failure
of the course.
Students are required to read and reply to two postings of their fellow classmates that
they find encouraging or insightful. This assists with participation and enhances
discussions.
5 | P a g e 3/12/2015
Students are required to re-visit their posts and review the instructor’s response by
Sunday for Thursday assignments and by Wednesday for Sunday assignments. Your
assignments will not be counted as completed and accepted for grading until you have
posted back to your instructor’s comments. Be sure to indicate in your response back to
the instructor’s comments that you fully understand their feedback.
Please ensure that your communications reflect proper grammar. No texting style or other
short cuts should be used. Students may be instructed to resubmit work containing
excessive: misspellings, incomplete sentences, etc. Please use Check Spelling on your
work prior to posting, uploading or emailing.
All students should use courtesy and online etiquette when communicating.
Participation in the weekly discussion questions is required for the completion of
assignments. Posts are not private and students are encouraged to respond to other student
posts.
Discussions are not to be used for any other purpose or communications.
Communications such as prayer requests, events or conferences, exchanging contact
information, etc. should be conveyed privately using student emails or the built in
messaging system.

EXAMPLE: Personalized Observation Summary From John 5:5-15:
John 5:5-15 5 Now a certain man was there who had an infirmity thirty-eight years. 6 When
Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he already had been in that condition a long time,
Jesus saw him. This reminds us of the importance to maintain a simple lifestyle with the
Father. We can always be asking Him to allow us to see what we should see, speak what we
should speak, and do what we should do. I suspect we will miss very few divine
8 | P a g e 3/12/2015
appointments if we maintain this posture. This ministry opportunity would not have
occurred if Jesus had not “saw him”.
And Jesus saw him lying there. This demonstrates to me that Jesus was willing and available
to look at the condition of this man. As the Holy Spirit revealed God the Father’s agendain
that moment, Jesus did not miss or overlook this divine appointment due to distraction or
any other reason.
Perhaps Jesus knew this man had been in this condition for 38 years by word of knowledge,
or by others telling him, or by interviewing the man - we are not told specifically. This is an
important observation because we don't want to turn having words of knowledge into a
law. We want to always expect the Holy Spirit to lead us in both the supernatural Gifts of
the Spirit and in the natural, loving, caring heart that comes through the Fruit of the
Spirit.
He said to him, “Do you want to be made well?”
Loaded question isn't it. Why did Jesus ask this? Well depending on what tribe, camp or
stream of Christianity we come from, I'm sure we would get all kinds of answers. One
group might say, this was Jesus initiating an opportunity for the man to express or activate
his faith. I like this because since the man was just lying there, it's pretty safe to assume
that he would be unable to express faith by walking up to or approaching Jesus directly
and ask for prayer. My only concern is that those of this same camp might turn this into a
law and conclude that if this man did not answer the question Jesus asked correctly, He
would not have ministered to him. We should avoid these kinds of assumptions.
7 The sick man answered Him, “Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is
stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me.” 8 Jesus said to him, “Rise,
take up your bed and walk.” 9 And immediately the man was made well, took up his bed, and
walked.
My perspective is that this man's answer reflects a desire to be healed. Why, because he
explains how he has been unable to follow through on a strategy that he perceives would be
the source of his healing. He then goes on to point out that others have been an obstacle to
his healing because they get to the source first. Note that Jesus does not say, “You haven't
answered my question.” Jesus seems to 1) ignore that he hasn't answered directly, or 2) He
recognizes the man's faith by the answer he gave, or 3) Jesus is led by the Holy Spirit to not
concern Himself with what answer He received.
At this, Jesus introduces a strategy different from that the man had developed and
depended upon. Jesus (in this case) now asksthe man to do something that he hadn't done
in 38 years. 1st: Rise, 2
nd: Take Up the very thing that has had ownership of you, and 3
rd
Walk away from the place you have always been focusing your dependency on.
And that day was the Sabbath. 10 The Jews therefore said to him who was cured, “It is the
Sabbath; it is not lawful for you to carry your bed.”11 He answered them, “He who made me
well said to me, ‘Take up your bed and walk.’”12 Then they asked him, “Who is the Man who
said to you, ‘Take up your bed and walk’?” 13 But the one who was healed did not know who it
was, for Jesus had withdrawn, a multitude being in that place. 14 Afterward Jesus found him in
9 | P a g e 3/12/2015
the temple, and said to him, “See, you have been made well. Sin no more, lest a worse thing
come upon you.”15 The man departed and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him
well.
Final observation: Jesus points out to the man that (in this case) there was a relationship
between personal sin and the 38 year disability. Jesus states that the man must separate
from this sin or something even worse might come upon him. We should want shepherding
heart that can lovingly teach people to separate themselves from sin and pursue
righteousness.

CASE REPORT 1:
I offered to pray for the ladies in my women's group. One woman (who I will call Grace) signed up, and I met her to
pray this afternoon. Grace had been in a lot of pain over the last few weeks with a flare-up of degenerative disc
disease. Before going, I made some notes and asked for the Holy Spirit's leading.
When I came to Grace's place, we first sat and chatted a bit. Then I told her about my journey into healing ministry,
my personal experience of being healed (plantar warts on my feet disappeared with prayer after years of liquid
nitrogen treatments failing), and some testimonies of healing I had witnessed and heard. I also spoke about what I
had learned regarding 'sozo' salvation; how the Lord desires to bring wholeness to our spirit, soul, and body. Spoke
about God's healing nature, and how this is paid for by Jesus. I mentioned hindrances to healing that may or may not
be present, like unforgiveness, and how these can give the enemy rights to attack us, even as Christians. I really felt
to build this foundation before proceeding.
13 | P a g e 3/12/2015
From here, we moved into the interview regarding her disease, and her past issues. I felt led to ask about her sciatic
nerve, although she had not mentioned that (pain traveling down the sciatic nerve is usually caused by compression
of the nerve). I also felt to inquire about alcohol or drug abuse issues in her family.
Then, I asked the Lord for specific words of knowledge. I recorded three: I heard the words, "Don't go there!", then I
saw a mental picture of an empty cafeteria, then I saw a mental picture of a big old book being removed from red
tissue paper, and sitting on what looked like a photocopier.
She did not have any particular traumatic event occur or specifically associated with the timing of the disease
beginning. She had bulging discs in her lower back, and the base of the neck. She did have pain along the sciatic
nerve, as well as pain along the nerve on the inside of her right leg. Her father had left her mother when she was 3
years old (Grace is currently approx 70 yrs old). Her mother had abused alcohol, verbally abused Grace and her 6
siblings during those binges, and pretty much left them to raise themselves. So, the leading about sciatica and
alcohol issues proved to be correct. Grace also described her mother as being fairly negative about everything, and
quoted her mother as saying, "Don't go here, don't go there." I think I just about fell off the couch when she
said that!
I asked about any involvement with the occult in her or her family line. She said that she did remember her mom
reading tea leaves for friends when they came over. Grace had good relationships with her husband and kids; her
husband had passed away 1 1/2 years previously. He had been on long-term disability, and Grace had worked in
food services.
She felt she had forgiven her parents, but we agreed to reconfirm that and to pray over some things specifically
before we prayed for physical healing. We asked the Lord for forgiveness for her mother's drinking and occult
involvement, and any in her family line, which Grace renounced. She then forgave her mother for these things, and
any sin behaviors that came as a result. I then commanded any spirit afflicting Grace by permission of her family's
alcohol abuse, or occult involvement to leave, in Jesus' name.
I then recommended that we wait on the Holy Spirit, and ask him to show Grace if there was anyone else that she
needed to forgive. The Holy Spirit brought up 2 situations from her past, to her surprise, because she had not thought
about them for some time. We were able to pray through forgiveness of these, and bless the people who had hurt
her.
I then told her about how I was learning to receive words of knowledge, and how God used them in healing to
confirm what He wanted to do. I showed her what I had written down for the first two, and how she had spoken
these things out. I felt that the third one might not be for her, so I mentioned that I had a third that might be for her
or for someone else. She did not connect with that word of knowledge, the most detailed one, so perhaps the Lord
will yet use it for another person or bring understanding to it later. But she was excited about the first two.
I prayed for her in a sitting position. We invited the Holy Spirit to come and touch Grace, and waited on Him. Then
I felt to pray, first by thanking the Lord for His promises of healing, and Jesus' work on the cross. Then, I prayed
using commands for the brain stem and spinal column to come into alignment, for the vertebrae and discs to come
into correct position and alignment, for the muscles, ligaments and tendons to be restored to their proper length and
strength. I commanded pinched nerves to be released and healed, and proper blood supply to be restored. I also
prayed over the nerves in the leg, and commanded any afflicting spirit causing sciatica to leave, in Jesus' name. She
didn't feel anything at this point, but stated she was seeing a blue light.
We prayed a second time, and I asked the Lord to command and release His angels to bring new discs, and any other
parts that Grace needed (like in the Ian Andrews video), opening my hand to receive I prayed on earth as it is in
heaven! I spoke alignment again, and all pain and inflammation to go, in Jesus' name. We re-tested, and she said it
definitely felt better and felt some warmth in her neck area.
We prayed a third time. I quoted Philippians that what the Lord had begun, He would bring to completion. This time
I thanked Him for what He was doing, thanked Him for new discs, for alignment, for pain leaving, etc. (like in the
Todd White video). I blessed her in Jesus' name, and blessed any areas where the enemy had previously attacked her
to now be filled with the Holy Spirit. We re-tested, and she felt that the pain was gone! PRAISE THE LORD!!! As
Grace said, "That's much better than surgery!"

She thanked me, and I just told her to keep thanking Jesus, that it was only my privilege to watch the Lord answer
her prayers. I did tell her that we are like onions, with layers, and that if she has other areas in which she needs the
Lord's touch, He can show her that another day. I warned her that sometimes the enemy will try to bring back
symptoms after we are healed. I quoted James, that we need to resist him, and he has to flee if we are submitted to
God. And I told her to keep thanking God, and stand on His promise that by Jesus' stripes, we are healed!
God is so good! I am so excited right now. Glory to Jesus' name! (Student Sample Provided by: Y. Haley)

TABLE 1:
SUGGESTED COLOR ANALYSIS FOR SYNOPTIC MATERIALS:
Following is a suggested model of Synoptic Gospel Color Analysis. You can see example of use
in the following tables. Bible students analyzing biblical passages that are common to two or
three of the Gospels are encouraged to highlight the texts using commonly available colored
pencils. The following primary colors scheme is suggested for your personal study.
Single Traditions:
Use the following colors to highlight words, phrases, or longer passages that occur in only one
Gospel, but not in the others:
Matthew red
Mark yellow
Luke blue
Double Traditions: Use the following colors to highlight materials that occur in two of the Synoptic Gospels, but not
in the third:
Matt & Mark red + yellow = orange
Mark & Luke yellow + blue = green
Matt & Luke (Q) red + blue = purple
Triple Traditions:
Use a pencil or black pen to underline materials that are identical in all three of the Synoptic
Gospels:
Matt & Mark & Luke (black or gray pencil)
[Note: If you also wish to color distinctive materials from the Gospel of JOHN, you might
highlight or underline them in BROWN.]

DEMONS AND DELIVERANCES IN THE GOSPELS
Names, Terms, and Definitions:
Demons - various spiritual beings usually thought to be somehow between humans and
God
o the English word is simply a transliteration of the Greek word daimon
o used 63 times in the NT, mostly in the three Synoptic Gospels
o they are frequently also called "unclean spirits" or "evil spirits" in the NT
o originally thought to be either good or evil; just like angels could be good or evil
o later "demon" is used mostly for evil spirits, while "angel" is used for good spirits
o thus demons were thought to cause mental problems, physical illnesses, natural
disasters, etc.
Demoniac - a person thought to be "possessed" by a demon; the demon lives inside the
demoniac
Exorcism - the process by which demons are cast out of a person; a story that narrates
such an event
Exorcist - a person who performs an exorcism; one who casts demons out of other
people (cf. Acts 19:13)
Satan - a transliteration of the Hebrew word for "adversary" or "accuser"
o originally acts like a "prosecuting attorney" in God's court, the one who opposes
or accuses human beings of their sins (Job 1-2; Zech 3:1-2; 1 Chron 21:1)
o only later (post-biblical) thought of as a fallen angel, a force opposing God, or the
embodiment of Evil
o mentioned 36 times in the NT (4-Mt, 6-Mk, 5-Lk, 1-Jn, 2-Acts, 10-Paul, 8-Rev)
Devil - from the Greek word diabolos meaning "slanderer"
o used twice in the NT for human beings as "slanderers" (1 Tim 2:11; Titus 2:3)
o used 35 times for the "Devil" (6-Mt, 0-Mk, 5-Lk, 3-Jn, 2-Acts, 8-Paul, 8-Cath, 5-
Rev)
o connected with the "ancient serpent" and the "dragon" in Rev 12:1-18 & 20:2
Beelzebub, Beelzebul - other ancient Jewish names for the leader of evil forces
o used in the NT only in Mark 3:22 (par. Matt 12:24-27; Luke 11:15-19) and Matt
10:25
o comes from Baal-zebub, a foreign god mentioned in 2 Kings 1:2-16
o Baal-zebub literally means "Lord of the flies"; Baal-zebul means "Lord of Dung"
Other Names and Descriptions: o Apollyon (a Greek name meaning "the destroyer" - Rev 9:11 only)
o Beliar (a Hebrew word for "wickedness" - 2 Cor 6:15 only; often in non-biblical
lit.)
o The Accuser (Rev 12:10)
o The Adversary (1 Pet 5:8)
o [Disguised as] an Angel of Light (2 Cor 11:14)
o The Evil One (Matt 5:37; 6:13; 13:19, 38; John 17:15; Eph 6:16; 2 Thess 3:3; 1
John passim)
o The Prince/Ruler of the Demons (Mark 3:22; Matt 9:34; 12:24; Luke 11:15)
o The Ruler of This World (John 12:31; 14:30; 16:11)
20 | P a g e 3/12/2015
o The Tempter (Matt 4:3; 1 Thess 3:5)
o The Serpent Gen 3; Rev 12)
o Lucifer (Isa 14:12)
Verbs Typically Used in Deliverance Narratives:

"silence" - the exorcist tells the demon to be silent / be quiet
"cast out" - the exorcist forces the demon to leave the body of the demoniac
