I was born in 1980. I live and work in Tallinn, Estonia.

Marcelo Monreal is a Brazilian collage artist who cracks skulls in the

most beautiful way possible. Digitally splitting parts of models and

celebrities faces (Christopher Walken and Kate Moss are among them), he

fuses beautiful blooms with the broken shapes. Small, colorful flowers

grow from behind eye sockets, in the place of noses, and out of mouths.

In Monreal’s opinon, people don’t often tell us who they really are.

Instead, they keep parts of their real selves hidden. He opens them up

with his collages and reveals the rare moments in which we see the

beauty that’s behind their appearance.

”Faces I always drew attention. And if i stressing? If the let loose

from the rest of the body, which would be within? Well, to me, still I

think that people have a little bit of beauty within them by more that

this is saved and only revealed in rare moments. The result of this

reflection gave rise to this series called: Faces [UN]bonded.”

Photographer and digital artist Jane Long was born in Melbourne, Australia

in 1970. Currently based in Brisbane, Australia, she combines photography

and photomanipulation to create slightly surreal images that straddle the

line between reality and fantasy.

Long has spent most of her career as a graphic designer, entering the

industry over 20 years ago and establishing her own studio in 1996.

Completely self-taught, she has worked with Photoshop since 1994, both

commercially and for personal work.

She developed an interest in photography as an extension of her personal

photomanipulation work, wanting more control over the stock images she was

using, both from a creative and copyright point of view, and progressing

to a love of photography in general.

Initially working with friends and family, she used an old instamatic or

borrowed equipment for several years until her first DSLR purchase a

little over two years ago. Since then she has delved wholeheartedly into

photography, concentrating on conceptual portraiture. However digital art

remains a passion and forms an integral part of her work.

Deciding to move into the fine art market in April 2014, her first series

“Self-Preservation” has received several accolades including several

images being listed as finalists for the Macquarie Photography Prize

and “Cured” being announced as a semi-finalist for the Moran Photographic

Prize. Her next series “Dancing with Costică” shot her to international

exposure with features on over 40 prominent photography and general

interest websites including ABC News US, Daily Mail UK, Daily

Mail Australia, SLR Lounge, PetaPixel, Bored Panda and BuzzFeed as well as

a number of photography magazines and Romanian TV!

The Dancing with Costică series initially came about when I decided to

brush up on my retouching skills. After finding the Costică Acsinte

Archive on Flickr I became fascinated with the images and their subjects.

I wanted to bring them to life. But more than that I wanted to give them a

story. I wanted there to be some ambiguity about the images. Things that

are almost real or not quite right.

That’s why I like to place them in a slightly surreal context.

in my images are good or bad, light or dark.

I will probably never know the real stories of these people but in my mind

they became characters in tales of my own invention…star crossed lovers, a

girl waiting for her lover to come home, boys sharing a fantasy, innocent

children with a little hint of something dark.

This is in many ways a collaboration, albeit one with a photographer I

have never met (and never will) and the man who has taken it upon himself

to conserve the archive. It is through the work of Cezar Popescu in

restoring and digitizing these images that I am able to draw on such a

rich source of inspiration in Costică Ascinte’s work.

currently lives and works as a fine-art photographer and digital artist.

Surrounded by paintings of her mother, who is also an artist, she always

had a colorful environment to let her visions grow. So there is no

particular date, when she started loving and doing art. After painting and

writing for several years she finally found the perfect medium to express

herself, in self-portraiture. Her pictures are feminine, dreamy, surreal,

magical & painterly.

Janine describes her work as "a break from the daily routine".

As I asked her where she gets her ideas from, the first thing she told me

was about a simple little detail of her life. Every night she invents a

story for her little girl. It always have to be something that´s

"impossible".

"This is a wonderful way to train my mind, to think in unusual ways. I

think everybody should do that”.

concentrating in art before undertaking my B.A in Fine Arts majoring in

Communication Design at Bangkok University. I worked as a graphic

designer for graphic design houses and advertising agencies, including a

worldwide Japanese advertising company in Bangkok, Asatsu (ADK) Thailand.

I then furthered my education in Diploma of Website Production and

Management at TAFE Sydney Institute. My latest work experience as a

graphic and web designer was with a North Sydney based IT company, Infra

Corporation.

I am currently a proud mum of two living in Sydney, Australia. I have

developed a special interest in photography. My photographs mainly con-

sist of things that I create or manipulate by hand. Occasionally I use

Photoshop when enhancing the idea and presentation of an image fits well.

Driven by childhood memories and very much fascinated by children’s

imagination and their quirkiness, the direction of my photography is

light, easy to approach with a little touch of everyday optimism.
