I slept and dreamt that life was joy. I awoke and saw that life was service. I acted and
behold, service was joy. ~Rabindranath Tagore Dear Rạng Đông 34, ☺ People often ask, “Why did you become a Catholic?” My short answer is, because I was curious!” One afternoon of November, 1989 in the Bataan Refugee Camp in the Philippines, my siblings and I joined the Vietnamese Eucharistic Youth Society. We were curious of the activities of the members of the youth groups where were in white shirts and blue pants uniform. They always seemed so happy and high spirits. Being born and raised as a Buddhist, I had no knowledge about the mystery of the Eucharist. In my first worship experience in the church, I was mesmerized by the mystery of the rituals being carried out before me. I had no clue what was going on but I felt like I was missing out on something magical and important. I wanted to be part of that special group of people receiving the bread of heaven.
With love, support and guidance of my parents, chaplains, catechism teachers, youth leaders and members of VEYS, I was baptized on a beautiful Easter Vigil night of March 25th, 1989. It was a day of triumph, and the rebirth of hope. The day that Jesus had not siply risen from the dead, he came alive in my heart. God sent TNTT to my life and I forever grateful to be a part of this loving family! As you start your journey to be youth leader with Rạng Đông 34, let us be encouraged. Wherever you may be, whatever you do, whomever you serve, I pray that you will always have Jesus in the Eucharist in your heart and mind. Remember that his beloved mother Mary will always journey with you. It is God – the bread of life – he taught us the greatest of lesson of service and love. May your heart forever be an outlet of God's love to our young people at your local parish or wherever your path may lead you.
Be curious! Be hungry for God’s love. Always!
“ Let no one look down on your youthfulness, but rather in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity, show yourself an example of those who believe.” 1 Timothy 4:12! Tr. Teresa Đinh Ngọc Nga
Ten Rules of Life of Archbishop Nguyễn Văn Thuận I will live the present moment to the fullest.
I will discern between God and God’s works.
I will hold firmly to one secret: prayer.
I will see in the Holy Eucharist my only power.
I will have only one wisdom: the science of the Cross.
I will remain faithful to my mission in the Church and for the Church as a witness of Jesus Christ.
I will seek the peace the world cannot give.
I will carry out a revolution by renewal in the Holy Spirit.
I will speak one language and wear one uniform: Charity.
I will have one very special love: The Blessed Virgin Mary.

Workshop 1&2 NGHỆ THUẬT TRƯỞNG TRỰC
THE ARTS OF PROGRAM MODERATION
I. Role of Trưởng Trực A trưởng trực models after the image of a shepherd, a servant, an attendant. A trưởng trực:
• Is a mediator between:
Huynh Trưởng and đoàn sinh. Ban Điều Hành and Sa Mạc Sinh. like how Jesus Christ is the mediator between God the Father and man.
I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him." (John 14: 6-‐7)
• Gives commands and directions:
with the purpose to carry out what was decided and planned for đoàn / sa mạc. through the chain of command like Jesus chose his apostles, disciples.
Jesus went up on a mountainside and called to him those he wanted, and they came to him. He appointed twelve -‐ designating them apostles -‐ that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach. (Mark 3: 13-‐14)
• Is the spirit, referee, timekeeper in TNTT activities
• Is the bodyguard for the safety of đoàn sinh / sa mạc sinh,
ensures good health of đoàn sinh / sa mạc sinh. protects đoàn sinh / sa mạc sinh from possible dangers.
The apostles gathered around Jesus and reported to him all they had done and taught. 31Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” (Mark 6: 30-‐31)
"I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” (John 10:11)
II. Responsibility of Trưởng Trực A trưởng trực is not the head person in all activities. The functions of trưởng trực in the following environments are:

If there are changes in the times or the program, Trưởng Trực has to communicate to upper management to resolve. Trưởng Trực should avoid making decisions by themselves, except in emergencies.
III. Characteristics of Trưởng Trực 1. Qualities: Trưởng Trực needs to have the following qualities:
• virtues and conduct of a huynh trưởng. • fair, humble, calm, observant • flexible, able to make changes accordingly • keep time according to the planned program

Youth Leaders -‐ LIVING AN EUCHARISTIC DAY I. SPITUALITY OF THE EUCHARISTIC YOUTH SOCIETY
• Spirituality is the spiritual method that religious orders and societies choose to follow in life. • St. Vincent de Paul society 's spirituality is charity works. • Linh thao 's spirituality is words of God in the Bible. • Eucharistic Youth Society's Spirituality is the Holy Eucharist.
Among seven sacraments institutes by Jesus, The Holy Eucharist is the most venerable sacrament. Eucharistic Youth Society has chosen the best, the most precious spirituality. The Holy Eucharist and the words of God are never separated. Both unite into one single liturgy of the Mass. Therefore, we can see that the Eucharistic Youth Society utilizes the Holy Eucharist, the words of God in the Bible and precepts of the Church as foundation for education and guidance of youths in all activities. II THE ORIGIN The Holy Eucharist is Christ's most creative gift (Jesus' own body) full of love to the world. Matthew 26: 26 -‐ 29 Marco 13: 22 -‐ 25 Luke 22: 14 -‐ 20 I Corinto 11: 23 -‐ 27 III. MEANINGS OF THE HOLY EUCHARIST
1. Eucharistic themes: a) Memorial of Jesus’ passion and resurrection b) Jesus’ gift of his own Body and Blood for the world c) Jesus’ perpetual presence, real presence in the world and in our lives d) Food for spiritual life: giving life and strength for the souls
* Guarantee for the eternal life: John: 6: 50 – 51 " The New Covenant e) Communion:
• God and people • Among people
f) A perfect Prayer of Thanksgiving of Jesus to the Father
A new covenant: Covenant of love. A thanksgiving: Of Jesus to God the Father for mankind. IV. HOW TO PRACTICE “SỐNG NGÀY THÁNH THỂ”

Workshop 4
THE PSYCHOLOGY AND TEACHING METHOD
I. The four ranges of the Vietnamese Eucharistic Youth Society (VEYS):
Since the VEYS is the education movement, we focus on the study of physical development, personality development, and social development of the individuals.
♦ Physical development is examining the ways in which the body’s makeup – the brain, nervous system, muscles, and senses, and the need for food, drink, and sleep.
♦ Personality development is the study of how the enduring characteristics that differentiate one person from another change over the life-‐span.
♦ Social development is the way in which individuals’ interactions with others and their social relationships grow and change over the lifetime.
A particular age ranges will have a different personalities, characters, and physical
conditions, therefore they are required to have a special technique to teach or to give a game. The VEYS movement is divided into 4 different age ranges: childhood, middle childhood,
adolescence, and adulthood.
A. The Childhood: (age range is 7 to 9)
Physical Development Social/Personality Development • Height and weight continue to
increase. • The body becomes less rounded,
more muscular. • Gross and fine motor skills advance
quickly. Children can throw and catch balls, run, and tie shoelaces.
• Children develop self-‐concepts, which may be exaggerated.
• A sense of gender and racial identity emerges.
• Morality is rule-‐based and focused on rewards and punishments.
• Play becomes more constructive and cooperative and social skill become important
• Children love to listen to short stories or series stories.
1. The best model is Jesus in the childhood with the special characteristic being “obedience of
Mary and Joseph” 2. The slogan of the childhood is “Obedience”. Children always need to obey and follow
instructions of the adults, parents, or teachers. 3. The curriculum is based on the Old Statement with stories derived from the Genesis. 4. The activities for this age range are usually light and soft.
B. The Middle childhood: (age range from 10 to 12) Physical Development Social/Personality Development • Growth becomes slow and steady.
Muscles develop, and “baby fat” is lost.
• Gross motor skills (biking, swimming, skating, ball handling)
• Children begin to see peers as individuals and form friendships based on trust and shared interests.
• Friendship patterns of boys and
and fine motor skills (writing, typing, fastening buttons) continue to improve
girls different. Boys mostly interact with boys in groups, and girls tend to interact singly or in pairs with other girls.
• Self-‐esteem grows differentiated, and a sense of self-‐efficacy (an appraisal of what one can and can not do) develops.
• Children approach moral problems intent on maintaining social respect and accepting what society defines as right.
1. The best model is Jesus in the middle childhood at Nazareth. Jesus studied and worked hard. 2. The slogan of the middle childhood is “Sacrifice”. Reminding children to accept obstructions or
difficulties in the course of life to improve. 3. The curriculum is based on the life of Jesus in the New Statement. Children will study and
practice what Jesus taught. 4. The activities for this age range are usually active, flexible, competitive, and practical. Note: Team and group activities are very important. Therefore, team and group meeting is a must for every week.
C. The Adolescence: (age range from 13 to 15) Physical Development Social/Personality Development • Primary sexual characteristics
develop (affecting the reproductive organs), as do secondary sexual characteristics (public and underarm hair in both sexes, breasts in girls, deep voices in boys).
• Girls begin the adolescent growth faster than boys do.
• Self-‐concept becomes organized and accurate and reflects other’s perceptions.
• Self-‐esteem grows differentiated. • Defining identity is a key task.
Peer relationships provide social comparison and help define acceptable roles. Popularity issues become acute; peer pressure can enforce conformity.
• Adolescents’ quest for autonomy can bring conflict with parents as family roles are renegotiated.
• Sexuality assumes importance in identity formation. Dating begins.
1. The best model is Jesus with proclamation of the Good News mission. Jesus brought people
back to God. 2. The slogan of the adolescence is “Conquer”.
Children will learn how to conquer the followings: • Conquering their weakness, laziness, selfishness, fear to become a faith-‐solder for God. • Conquering belief and trust of their parents and others. • Conquering nature with difficulties, obstructs, or lack of comfort.
• Conquering people’s soul for God. This is a most important purpose of the “conquer” word.
3. The curriculum is the strategy of carrying on a religious mission of the Church and the Jesus’ fellows at the beginning time especially Saint Paul.
4. The activities are strong but in silence, and more social activity than entertainment. Note: Team activities are most important.
D. The Pre Adulthood – The Knights of the Eucharist: (age range above 16-‐17) Physical Development Social/Personality Development
• Brains continue to develope with increase in reaction times and co-‐ordination
• Starting 16, boy hits puberty stronger than girls
• Body changes can upset self esteem
• Need to resolve changes into adulthood
• Some are more assured about changes in settings
• Wants to spend more time with friends than family
• Peer pressure a significant influence
• Independence -‐ influenced by the media and western societal norm (e.g., individualism) to seek independency. Further, Hiệp Sĩ
• Desire to be autonomous is greatest during the ages of 16-‐17.
Implication for Hiệp Sĩ -‐TNTT:
• Allow perceived freedom (the individual perspective on the amount of choice one has in participating
in an activity) for Hiệp Sĩ in selecting activities. For example, Huynh Trưởng can pick several topics or
activities to teach or sinh hoạt with Hiệp Sĩ and then present those to them so they can choose one to work on.
This way, Huynh Trưởng can ensure that learning is in a controlled environment and the topics/activities do not
go against the teachings of the church while at the same time meeting the need for freedom among Hiệp Sĩ.
• Provide opportunity for leadership and independence.
• Teach Hiệp Sĩ on different aspects of leadership, teamwork, self discipline, and self-‐control. • Monitor different cliques within Hiệp Sĩ and employ integrative activities where teamwork is of
importance. • Promote, accept, and celebrate the diversity of all people (all God’s creation). • Build self-‐confidence, self-‐esteem, and self-‐concept. • Start a trend that they can buy in. For example, a Bible gang, sign-‐of-‐the-‐cross group, a praying
team, going to church every day crew, and etc… • Glamorize and popularize faith-‐based activities. If Hiệp Sĩ look up to you and they admire you,
theywill also admire what you do. So you being popular with các em Hiệp Sĩ can influence them to follow your ways or get other popular Hiệp Sĩ to buy in your activities, the rest will follow.
• Present Jesus to the Knights of Eucharist as the One proclaiming the Good News with a focus on the 8 Beatitudes.
Teaching method: Teachers holds little authority (student-‐centered) in the control of the flow of content.
Group discussion, group assignments, community projects, and etc…
II. The Teaching Method:
1. Imparting method: a teacher will be active during lesson and student is passive. There is one way communication with this method. This method is good for the childhood or middle childhood range.
2. Reporting method: the student is active while the teacher is passive. The Student will talk in front a class in a mean while the teacher listens, makes corrections, and gives a conclusion at the end. This is good for the middle childhood and the adolescence range.
3. Sharing method: the teacher and all students will throw out their opinion based on a specific
topic. It is required a note-‐taker to brainstorm all ideas; however, the teacher still makes a conclusion and gives out main points that he/she has prepared before class. This method can be applied for the adolescence or the adulthood range.
4. Activity: by giving out games or songs that relate to the topic, the teacher can drive the
students to get to the points he/she wants. This method can be applied for every range. 5. Discussing/Debating method: it is similar to the sharing method above; however, the students
will be divided into many small groups. The teacher acts as a referee or a judge. Groups will debate or discuss about an assigned topic one another.
6. Field trips / Out-‐door activity: the teacher should give an assignment with hints for students to
do, to observe, or to gather information that is available outside the church and relates to a specific topic. For instance, by assigning students to repaint a nursing home or visit a retirement centers, the teacher would like to teach them a lesson of love. This method is good for the adolescence (if possible) and the adulthood ranges.
Question: 1. List out all different characteristics of each age ranges in term of psychology? 2. What curriculum are applied for each age ranges? Please specify. 3. What are the best teaching methods exercised for each range? http://www.pearsonschoolsandfecolleges.co.uk/FEAndVocational/Childcare/BTEC/BTECFirstChildrensCareLearningandDevelop/Samples/SampleMaterial/UCD%20Unit%201.pdf

Introduction/Review: ( 5 minutes) How do I engage my students to this lesson? How can I activate my students’ prior knowledge? Introduce manna to students by explaining that in this lesson they will learn of a wonderful type of bread that not only nourishes their bodies but also gives them everlasting life. Encourage to guess what type of bread they think it is. Afterwards, read the passage John 6:58 from the student’s edition.
LESSON CYCLE
New Material: ( 5 minutes) Key Points: What key points will you emphasize in this lesson?
Materials:
-‐ Manna is bread granted from God in heaven. -‐ Manna provides everlasting life to those you eat it. -‐ We also receive bread during mass. It is called the
Host and considered the Body of Christ.
• Student Edition
Group Activity: ( 5 minutes) How will you ensure that students actively take-‐in information? Reenactment, drawing a storyboard in small groups, etc.
Encourage students to look at the pictures of two types of bread in their student edition. Ask students to share how the two pictures are different from one another. Then go over how bread during mass is blessed by the priest and becomes the body of Christ and thus, serves as the Host.
• Student Edition
Independent Work: ( 5 minutes) In what ways will students attempt to demonstrate independent mastery of the objective? (Illustrate or write the lesson taught, explain the significance of the lesson, etc.) How will you provide opportunities for extension?
Cover “Living our Faith” and “Practicing our Faith” section together from the student edition. Encourage students to model the proper procedures of receiving communion. Students will practice on their own and then will line up and practice it as they were in mass receiving communion. If they have not received Communion, then show them how to line up to receive blessing from the Priest.
• Student Edition
Sharing/Review: ( 2 minutes) How will you assess student performance? How will allow students to share what they have learned? What are ways you can assess if your students understand the key points in the lesson?
Encourage students share what they learned about manna and bread for communion. Students may complete the “Discussion” section on their own. Teacher will read aloud directions and questions to students as they work on their own independently. Afterwards, class will go over answers.

Workshop 6:
Nghệ Thuật Làm Băng Reo & Giáo Dục Qua Sinh Hoạt “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”
I. Nhận Định: Children in America have schedules busier than many children in other countries. This brings us to two critical areas of concern: (a) The reality is parents are increasingly pushing their children to achieve more than generations before. Thus, sinh hoat Thieu Nhi must continually evolve to accommodate to those needs in order to compete with other activities which parents may deem more beneficial for their children’s future. (b) The strong influence of the media and social culture makes Catholic Values less appealing to the youth; therefore, many Catholic youths in America may find themselves drawing farther from the conservative ideologies. II. Objective of Play One formula which may serve as an anchor to keep the children on the right path is:
The benefits of teaching through games
1. Primary – children get to learn about their FAITH in a fun and enjoyable atmosphere which encourages them to explore and extend what they are learning. Amongst the various teaching styles, learning through play is most effective in school age children. Even for adults, learning has a more profound result during hands-‐on activities instead of lectures.
2. Secondary – through play activities, children also learn collaborative learning, good sportsmanship, communication, leadership skills, conflict resolution, responsibility, and other important elements for strong relationship development.
III. Implementation of Play Những điểm cần biết để làm buổi sinh hoạt hữu ích (Tips):
1. Chọn ích nhất 4 trò chơi sinh hoạt bỏ túi (memorize at least 4 “pocket” games) 2. Nắm vững thính gỉa và bối cảnh (familiarize with the audience and environment) 3. Biết cách sửa đổi bài học của trò chơi (know how to improvise lesson to be learned)
4. Điều khiển trò chới với mục đích rỏ rang và tinh thần vui tươi (deliver your game with a clear purpose and cheerful spirit)
IV. Background Information Friendships are Relationships – Children and adolescents who are successful in finding and maintaining friendships must develop strongly in the following ten areas:
1. Enjoyment – Friends must be enjoyable, exciting companions. Friendships usually start out as collaborative play that give way to conversations involving humor, shared interests, emotions and problem solving about relationships. Thus, enthusiastic, upbeat people tend to make friends more quickly.
2. Referencing – Friends must be able to use the feelings, ideas and actions of their social
companions as a critical reference point for determining their behavior. Referencing involves basing your actions on the immediate emotional reactions of your social partners. In its later stages, friends develop mental reference maps of the interests, favorite activities, strengths and weaknesses of their pals.
3. Reciprocity – Friends must learn to become equal partners in these “give-‐and-‐take” relationships.
A friend who is responsive to a friend’s needs and interests has the right to expect responsiveness in turn.
4. Repair – Friends must be able to manage disagreements and discuss their complaints and conflicts
without doing permanent damage to the relationship. It is important to practice the act of forgiveness and seek to “repair” the relationship through admittance of responsibility.
5. Improvisation and co-‐creation – Friends must learn to share perceptions and ideas in unique, new
ways. 6. We-‐go – Friends must experience themselves as an essential part of a greater unit than if alone.
Together, the “group mind” allow friends to do things they could never do alone.
7. Social memories – Friends have a shared history. Friends jointly record and love to re-‐tell about funny, sad or powerful experiences that they have shared. These memories serve to rekindle friendships even after periods of inactivity.
8. Maintenance – Friends maintain contact just to stay connected, without any other agenda or
ulterior motives. Thus, time spent on Facebook is encouraged.
9. Alliance – Friends rely on one another as critical allies at times of adversity. Friends keep confidences, stick up for one another and remain honest and loyal. Friendships are judged based on consistency between words and deeds.
10. Acceptance – Friends accept each other for who they are. Friends will recognize achievements
with congratulations and express admiration. Friends will provide support and concern during failure and negative events.
V. Bonus Tips for Relationship Coaches
1. Focus on competence
2. Spotlight
3. keep it simple
4. create a space
5. balance enjoyment with responsibility
6. make sure skills are meaningful
7. work towards self-‐efficacy
8. find the edge of development and stay there

Pope Pius X released a decree known as “Quan Singulari” which stated that children can receive Holy Communion when they are old enough to reason. Parents and pastors were given the duty of assuring that children would receive their First Communion and continue to receive the Body and Blood of Christ on a regular basis. From “Quam Singulari”, TNTT derived its motto of Communion (Thánh Thể).
1915. In an effort to help youths cope with the turmoil of World War I, Fr. Besiere, from the Jesuit religious order in France started the Eucharistic Crusade (Đạo Binh Thánh Giá) , which is a branch of the Prayer Apostolate (Hội Tông Đồ Cầu Nguyện). The focus of this group was to help youths
connect with God through deep reflection and acts of good will. This ideal is the root of TNTT’s Prayer (Cầu Nguyện ) and Apostolic Works (Làm Tông Đồ).
The motto of Sacrifice (Hy Sinh) was inpired in the spirit of a Catholic organization known as the Crusade of the Cross (Đạo Binh Thánh Giá), whose ideal is to offer one’s life to protect the Church.
1929 -‐ The Eucharistic Crusade in Vietnam After recognizing the need of Vietnamese youths for religious education and a deep spiritual life, freres from the St. Sulpice (Dòng Xuân Bích) religious order started brought the Eucharistic Crusade to Vietnam. Although our organization uses a different name today, the start of The Eucharistic Crusade in 1929 is the official birth of TNTT. In the years following its creation, the Eucharistic Crusade spread to parsishes throughout Vietnam.
1964 – The Eucharistic Crusade adopted a new name: The Vietnamese Eucharistic Youth Society (Phong Trào Thiếu Nhi Thánh Thể Việt Nam). The Eucharistic Society published its first regulations handbook (Nội Quy), outlining its foundation, goals, and rules. TNTT still kept Communion at the center of its teachings but also added activities such as singing, games, camping, and other less conventional methods of religious education.
1971 – Vietnamese Eucharistic Youth Society introduced new regulation handbook and was approved by the Vietnamese Conference of Catholic Bishops.
1975 -‐ With the fall of South Vietnam in 1975, the Society’s activities ceased temporarily. However, with the waves of refugees fleeing to new homelands, the Society came to life again. The Vietnamese Eucharistic Youth Society is currently active in many different countries in the free world: Australia, Canada, Europe, Japan, and the United States.
Today, in the US, there are approximately 100 TNTT groups in over 45 states with a 18,000 members and 1,800 Leaders. And we continue to grow.

II.

A. Thánh Kinh

“Cùng với Mẹ con cảm ơn Chúa đã ban cho con qua một đêm (ngày) bằng an;
3. Miệng đọc -‐ lòng suy -‐ đời biến đổi.
4. Với Mẹ, nhờ Mẹ Mân Côi Thương yêu, phục vụ, ấy đời của con.
5. Đời con một Chuỗi Mân Côi: Hạt Vui, hạt Sáng, hạt Thương, hạt Mừng. Ngày đêm chiêm ngắm không ngừng, Như cây nến cháy nhỏ từng lời kinh.

A. One of the two TNTT foundations: -‐ Thánh Kinh (Scripture) & Giáo huấn của Giáo Hội (Magisterium) -‐ The three pillars of authority: Sacred Scripture, Sacred Tradition, Living Magisterium
B. An Educational approach -‐ The natural approach (phương pháp giáo dục tự nhiên): to introduce members to the relationship with God through learning and living His Words.

Workshop 10
PERSONALITY & RELIGIOUS LIFE OF A YOUTH LEADER
I. INTRODUCTION 1. Personality & Manners
-‐ Personality: Personal points of a person that make other people to admire, love, and respect. -‐ Manners: The revealed state of a person through living style, behavior, and other activities such
as personal hygiene, dress, gait, speech. In summary, personality is the virtuous quality deep inside which is revealed to the outside through a person’s manners.
2. Society’s goals The Vietnamese Eucharistic Youth Society uses 2 educational methods, spiritual & social, to achieve these 2 goals: - To educate youths and help them become better people and responsible Christians. - To organize and guide all youths and help them become more aware of the Church’s mission to the
world by engaging in the spreading of Good News, and by involving in working for the good of society through apostolate services, in serving others.
43
An Eucharistic leader is a model for the youths. Therefore, he should strive to improve himself.
II. PERSONALITY OF A LEADER 1. Who is he?
An Eucharistic leader is a person who succeeds Jesus’ mission in this world to watch over, guide, and educate youths. An Eucharistic leader is also the head of his group and has direct responsibility over his group’s members. -‐ Mission: Being a leader is not a job since one can leave his post. On contrary, being a leader is a
mission. The mission of an Eucharistic leader is to make youths progress in faith. (Story of 2 boy-‐scouts not believing in God in the year of 1988)
-‐ Guide: To his group’s members, a leader is a master, a brother or sister, a friend, a model. To be successful in guidance, an Eucharistic leader should learn to listen.
(Story of the Pope’s hand grasping candy) -‐ Educate: Teach what you live and live what you teach. The best method of educating is to be an
example. (Story of lying on the phone)
-‐ Responsibility: It’s easy to found a group, but maintaining it is a hard job. Beside the pain of founding a group, an Eucharistic leader still has responsibility to maintain, guide, and develop his group to achieve the goals successfully.
(Story of Albert Camus’ wife) The path that leads to nihility is wide; the one that leads to the truth is narrow. Being an Eucharistic leader is to walk on the narrow path. To success in his mission, an Eucharistic leader must have 3 things: -‐ Have advanced in age, experience, and responsibility -‐ Have knowledge, not only certificates for those are just things learned. An Eucharistic leader
should study and know how to apply what he has learned. -‐ Have a heart. An Eucharistic leader must possess love and noble passions. Tears flow downward,
not upward. An Eucharistic leader must look down to love and to forgive, not to hate his group’s members.
2. Characters of a leader An Eucharistic leader is a leader in its real sense. Therefore, he should possess all the characters of a leader. -‐ Joyful: To attract other people. -‐ Polite: To be loved and admired in relation to other people. -‐ Calm: To have a clear mind to solve problem. -‐ Subtle: Mostly in punishment and reward. -‐ Patient: Not to withdraw when facing difficulty. -‐ Generous: To forgive. -‐ Responsible: To complete one’s tasks. -‐ Will to advance: Learn to improve oneself. -‐ Listen to reason: Recognize one’s fault and correct it. -‐ Truthful: not deceived. -‐ Careful: Checking one’s tasks. An Eucharistic should also practice virtues which people call the 12 virtues of Mary. - 3 theological virtues: Faith – Hope -‐ Charity - 4 cardinal virtues: Prudence – Justice – Fortitude -‐ Temperance
1. Prayer Prayers are to adore God, to thank Him for His many favors, to petition Him for our many needs, and to ask pardon for and expiate our sin. Prayers are the breaths of a Christian. To pray is to elevate one’s mind and heart to God with a loving look, to talk to God and listen to what He says.
“ When you pray, do not worry about finding what to say… “ With the mission to guide and to educate youths, an Eucharistic leader must learn to listen to youths as well as when he talks to God, he should let God talk to him.
(90% of troubles in family are caused by miscommunication) (Story of I love you, I love you, I love you…)
2. Holy Communion To unite with God in order to become Christ-‐like. It is miserable for an Eucharistic leader not to regard Mass and the Holy Eucharist to be center of his life, so as not to assist Mass and receive Holy Communion daily. How marvelous if an Eucharistic leader understands clearly the meaning and the venerable level of the Mass and the Holy Eucharist.
-‐ St. Paul: “I live….” -‐ Eucharistic leaders’ prayer: “… when I completely belong …” -‐ (Story of a doll made of salt)
3. Sacrifice (Sacrifice is to seek God in other) If a Eucharistic leader learns to open his spiritual eyes to see God in other people, in youths, surely his behavior would be different and his sacrifices according to the 14 works of mercy would have more meaning to him.
-‐ (Love is a flower, its beauty is offerings and its scent sacrifices) 4. Apostolate services (To make other people recognize God in oneself)
An Eucharistic, wearing his collar-‐kerchief, is doing apostolate services. -‐ (Story of Dominic Savio in an occasion of preaching with his master)
IV. APPLICATION
1. Prayer: Bible study, Words’ sharing, Eucharistic reverence, writing diary. 2. Open Heart: Come to other people, making friends. 3. Respect Each Other: Be on time, co-‐operation. 4. Learning Note taking, discussion.
V. CONCLUSION -‐ An Eucharistic leader must consciously recognize that he has a mission to guide and to educate
youths. Therefore, he must always strive to improve himself to have good personality and manners, a virtuous life, a vast knowledge, and good characters.
