HARDWARE

Page 11: PhoneBloks

Modular designs of phonebloks are based upon three concepts.

1.Lower barriers to entry.2.Increase the pace of innovation.

3.Substantially compress development timelines.

Every blocks are connected to the base. Each block has a designated place labeled with a symbol of its function.Contains blocks such as camera , memory , speakers , battery etc.

SOFTWARE

Page 13: PhoneBloks

Software not revealed yet.The most voted being “ANDROID OS”.Even planning to develop a new Phoneblok OS.

FUTURE

Page 15: PhoneBloks

Already working with Motorola advanced technologies called “Project ARA”.

What Is

Project ARA?

Page 19: PhoneBloks
Page 20: PhoneBloks

How it works?

Page 21: PhoneBloks

Project ARA has two core component:

The ENDOSKELETON

The MODULE.

Page 22: PhoneBloks
Page 23: PhoneBloks
Page 24: PhoneBloks

Three technologies that will make project ARA work:

UniPro Capacitive M-PHY

Electro Permanent Magnets

Page 25: PhoneBloks

UniPro is a high speed internet protocol that project ARA uses to allow its modules to speak to each other.

They share a common low level language for communicating and building a network.

Project ARA is tapping into the latest UniPRO 1.6 SPEC Which offer high-bandwidth, and low power connections between the

modules.

UniPro

Page 26: PhoneBloks

A physical layer spec which is developed by MIPI alliance and made to work with UniPro.

For project ARA, M-PHY is a capacitive interface, which means that the points won’t be worn down over time from swapping modules in and out of the phone.

M-PHY is requiring less pins and providing more bandwidth per pin with improved power efficiency.

Capacitive M-PHY

Electropermanent magnets are used for affixing the modules in place in the ‘ENDO’.

Normal Electromagnets magnetize depending on if current is running through them – that would be a battery drain.

But Electropermanent magnets only use current to flip magnetization on and off.

It is able to retain its magnetized state without draining additional power.

CONCLUSION

Page 35: PhoneBloks

Phoneblok is a concept by

Dutch designer

Dave Hakkens.

A phone can be

modularized into many

parts.

User can customize it according to his needs.

Long Durability.

May be touch

expensive.

Innovative idea which

may change the Gadgets

world.
