(951) 240-1704 phillip.mandery@gmail.com cargocollective.com/phillipmandery Mandery P hillip I am highly motivated and devoted, with a strong passion for design and architecture and all that is encompassed within the field. Having just finished my Masters degree and returning to Southern California I find my self in pursuit of the career opportunity with your office. I have an interest in problem solving and pushing the limits of feasibility; and have found that integration is the key to the design process from the smallest detail to an overall scheme of a building. I have been described by associates as a leader, passionate, and eager to learn and expose myself to new concepts and techniques; which has helped me to become a versatile and multi-task oriented designer. As a recipient of a BArch from Woodbury University; I have developed a diverse understanding of 2D and 3D computer design software, with an ability to quickly become proficient with new software. I have a predominately strong background and interest in model making as well as furniture design with a variety of tools and materials. I concluded my undergraduate education by interrogating the notion of sketch with a thesis dedicated to the understanding and integration of physical object making in relation to the architectural design process. Continuing my education in pursuit of a MArch from the Bartlett I expanded my understanding of architectural design, both in terms of technical strategies and conceptual methodologies exposing myself to a variety of design cultures and paradigms, and allowing me to continue the research I began at Woodbury. At the Bartlett, my research expanded on the interrogation of sketch and architectural drawing utilizing time, sequence, and film as vessels to explore the built environment. My professional experience and studio courses have covered an array of topics, programs, and site conditions; allowing me to operate within a number of varied group and team dynamics with much success. I have attended training seminars and classes in leadership and management skills giving me a prominent ability to work in support as part of a team, or in leadership and management roles. I am proficient in AutoCAD, Rhino, and the majority of the Adobe Creative Suite; and have extensive experience in design development and construction documentation, as well as design representation. My resume contains further details of my skill sets and work experience, but I would appreciate the opportunity to further discuss any career opportunities potentially available at your office. Please feel free to contact me for references or any questions. Thank you for you time and consideration, I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Spatial Deanimation & Choreographies
The research explored the notion of collapsing time and ideas related to filmic architecture, as well as the indeterminacy of the 4th dimension. Time in architecture is often relegated to the life span of a building or the schedule of its occupancy and operation; but the way we perceive time can begin to influence an architecture and/or space. The research aimed to develop a linking methodology between our perception of time and the architecture which it inhabits. This initially was undertook through an analysis of film via: narrative typologies, spatial choreographies, and cinematographic techniques. Through this analysis, sequence was elevated as aprinciple link between time and architecture beyond that of the typical. Sequence is an intrinsic quality in both architecture and film which dictates the passing of time to an occupant or viewer. In film, narrative structure dictates a sequence, and thus a decision was made to focus on atypical narrative structures in order to discoverhow an atypical narrative structure could relate to an architecture. Through the investigation of narrative typologies in film, and the 4th dimension (duration), processes were developed to impact an existing architecture or generate a new one.

NoHo Cinematheque Transcending Film through Space
To transcend film through space is the architectonic philosophy behind this proposal for the North Hollywood Cinematheque. An extensive consideration of structure, circulation, and natural or passive systems was developed in the Cinematheque concerning both specific localized and over-arching universal issues. Some of the primary issues surrounding the Cinematheque include its immediate cultural and social climate under whichit was designed, the varied specific programs it has to accommodate and the structurally combining of all thesedetails into on comprehensive and provocative building. More importantly, this project addresses the greater surrounding environmental and experiential issues of the Cinematheque, in that it aims to provide a certain level of layered ambiguity while simultaneously providing a comprehensive system that works seamlessly together. This duality is the primary concern lying behind the success of the NoHo Cinematheque.
Moment models depicting the integration of several systems including: skin, structure, materiality, finish, acoustics, and solar shading.
