Introduction to Airflow Goal of the system

The Airflow application is a tool for monitoring and tracking the movement of a patient through an exam. It is interactive, allowing you to visualize an entire days work effort for your department, track the steps taken to ready the patient for a procedure and provides an anonymized view of the patient experience that can be used in patient waiting areas.

Where to find the system The system is entirely web-based and located as a launch-able link from your organization’s portal page.

Browser compatibility To ensure you have the best experience please use one of the following browsers versions. The system currently supports the Chrome (>=42.x), Safari (>=8.x), Firefox (>=37.x) and Internet Explorer (>=9). The system has also been tested and validated for use on tablet computers. The system relies on HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript and other web standards. Each web browser may implement part or all of these standards.

Logging in The system is capable of displaying patient health information and requires a user to login to the system via the main portal page, typically with their enterprise login ID. The system does not directly manage user names and passwords but delegates that function to your institution’s central enterprise directory system. All page views are logged in the auditing system based on the authorized user ID.

Calendar The calendar page display an at-a-glance view into the patients and exams scheduled for a given day. All resources (rooms) are listed left to right and the time of day is indicated top to bottom. The red horizontal line represents the current time and will move in down the page with the actual time of day. Each exam card’s height is determined by the duration of the exam (scheduled or actual). This view also provides insight into the patient’s exam lifecycle; icons will appear on the display card as various steps of the patient experience are completed (e.g. consent given, anesthesia administered, paperwork completed). Additionally, each patient card has a color bar on the left side indicating which phase of the exam the patient is in. (for details on the colors, see the Legend below). Clicking on the patients card opens a modal dialog with greater detail and the timestamps of each status change for the exam. Users can also adjust the time or the room that an exam is scheduled to take place. To do so click and drag an exam card to the desired resource and time.

Overview The overview page of Airflow shows a compact representation of exams for each resource. Each resource is its own row. The goal is to show the status of all exams for a given day at a glance.

    Legend

The legend is a drop down located at the top left of all tabs. Clicking it will show exam status changes by color.

Kiosk The kiosk page is a view that can be shown in a patient waiting area. The view does not display any protected health information (PHI) but does show a number that is given to the patient’s family when arrived. This number represents that patient and lets the family keep track of where the patient is in their visit. The red line is the current point in time and is anchored to the middle of the page so scrolling is not required.
