STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE®
Because leaders have been highly successful in an operational/functional role doesn’t mean they’ll succeed as strategic leaders. So why are organizations relying on those very people to move into these critical roles? Using past experience (in these instances) results in senior leaders who are unprepared to deal effectively with the situations and challenges they must face.
In this hands-on training, participants will learn how to think and act more strategically—
to strategize ways to grow the business, gain acceptance of the strategies, and execute them to achieve desired business results.
Workshop Overview: This four-day workshop immerses participants in business
situations commonly faced by senior strategic leaders, to improve their understand-
ing of critical business challenges and strategies. Participants experience nine
situational roles proven to be key differentiators between successful leaders and those who fail to make an effective transition between roles.
Using a leadership simulation, participants safely experience three years of
challenges and situations in the life of a senior strategic leader. They deal with
marketing, staffing, budgeting, allocating resources, and motivating the workforce. They make crucial decisions and then see the outcomes of these decisions on the business and the organization.
Participants also gain personal insight—through self-assessment tools, journaling, and peer feedback—into their strengths and development needs relative to the nine roles of effective senior strategic leaders. They also acquire familiarity with executive
derailers—personal characteristics which, when used to an extreme, can undermine a leader’s success as he or she advances to higher levels in the organization.
All combined, participants walk away able to target areas for development to lead more effectively in an operational role, or transition into a senior strategic role.
Day by Day Overview:
• Day One: Having gained insight from pre-work, participants learn about the
company, its industry, its market position, its competitor, and the challenges it faces.
• Day Two: The focus is on additional key roles that offer guidance throughout a new
set of challenges in Year Two.
• Day Three: Additional roles are covered, and new challenges confront the company.
• Day Four: Participants assess the performance of the company, make their
presentation to “the Board”, and receive peer feedback on their personal
performance.
