Program duration: 3 yearsResearch-focused programs (research activity represents 2/3 of the candidates’ total workload)Vast catalogue of field-specific courses enhancing PhD candidates’ hard skillsdevelopment (i.e. technical).Complementary soft-skill courses offered to provide knowledge in the field of communication of scientific results, team work strategy, project management, IPR, self-funding.Each year approx 10 courses taught by internationally renowned faculties(«Excellence Courses»)

PHD PROGRAMS AND THE COMPANIES
PhD in apprenticeship: it allows to be hired by a company with an apprenticeship contract, while enrolling in a PhD program. Candidates shall apply for this specific program within the framework of the call for admission.Industrial PhD programs: it allows companies to train their employees, already engaged in highly-qualifying activities, in the framework of a PhD programme.Clusters: it enhances the development of industrial experimental research and training activities. It comprises both academic training within the framework of a PhD program and professional training under the supervision of a company tutor.

PhD candidates have to keep in continuous contact with their tutor, to share the choice of the most suitable activities for the research project, to update and to discuss the progress of research.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS & ADMISSION
A public call for admission is published in spring and in summer. Candidates are selected competitively, on the basis of the fulfillment of several requirements:Possession of a university degree (a five-year course) or of an equivalent degree obtained from a foreign university (Master of Science)
Possession of one of the following English certificates: IELTS with minimum score 5.0 TOEFL IBT with minimum score 77
Cambridge ESOL - General English exams with minimum level PET pass with merit
GRE Test for betterEvaluateForeigncandidates
Financial support for enhancing international mobility
Increase by 50% the amount of scholarship for the entire lenght of the mobility (max. 18 months)
Departmental funds available in 2° and 3° year for a total of €3.500 dedicated to each PhD student
100 k€/yr for monetary prizes: € 1200 to 2° yr candidates, € 2500 to 3° yr candidates

PHD REGULATIONS
1) EDUCATION (i.e. Courses)
Minimum requirements : 100 hours of hard skills + 40 hours of soft skills
The Doctoral School coordinates the several PhD programmes, providing commonguidelines, while respecting the specificity of each course. Each PhD programme respectsScuDO guidelines, but the Academic Board can add further requirements and set internalregulations.
ScuDo runs a catalogue of courses for PhD students (3rd level courses), hard and soft
Courses can be attended outside PoliTO as well
2) SCIENTIFIC PRODUCTION
Minimum requirement: at least 1 publication in an international journal (N>=1)
P: value of the publication according to the bibliometric criteria of Polito
3) EXTERNAL RESEARCH ACTIVITY
- External research activity: points awarded for research training carried out
SOFT SKILL COURSES
Soft-skill courses are non-field-specific courses meant to provide students with transferable skillswhich will enable them to comply with the new challenges of the global economy
• Some of the soft-skills courses can be attended online.• External soft skills courses are validated by an external commission that meets periodically.
