English is the official language of Yukon and it is important that health professionals know it well. The National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities (NAPRA) has established language proficiency standards that define the level of language proficiency expected of a pharmacist in Canada. The Pharmacists’ Gateway Canada at www.pharmacistsgatewaycanada.ca is the starting point for International Pharmacy Graduates (IPGs) on the path to licensure. The Gateway is a central repository for your original documents and evaluation results, in addition to providing the most up-to-date and accurate information about licensure in Canada. Candidates who obtained their pharmacy education outside of Canada or the United States of America are required to register on the Pharmacists’ Gateway Canada and receive a National Identifier Number before applying to the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (PEBC) for document evaluation and the Evaluation Examination. The assessment of educational credentials and qualifications is conducted by the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (PEBC) on behalf of all Canadian pharmacy regulatory authorities. Information about this process can be found on the PEBC website at www.pebc.ca. The Government of Yukon’s Professional Licensing & Regulatory Affairs Branch in the Department of Community Services is the regulatory authority for Pharmacists in Yukon (“the Yukon regulator”). Once you have passed the national entry-to-practice exam please contact their office for further information. Contact information can be found at the end of this pamphlet. If licensure as a pharmacist is not an option, you could pursue a career as a pharmacy assistant. This is an unregulated profession and job offerings may be advertised in the local newspapers or on www.yuwin.ca. For other career options please contact one of the career counsellors in Whitehorse. A bridging program is a program that introduces you to the practice of pharmacy in Canada and helps you prepare for the qualifying exams and for the work as a pharmacist in Canada. There are currently three bridging programs offered in Canada: 1. Canadian Pharmacy Practice Programme (CP3) at the University of British Columbia 2.
