The end of another year is rapidly

approaching and with that comes another

period of intense commitment from our

members who are able to man the fund

raising stalls for the week leading up to

Remembrance Day.

I am immensely proud of the effort of our

small Sub-Branch to man 4 stalls for the

week where other much larger Sub-

Branches have difficulty manning 1 or 2

stalls.

The stalls this year will be manned from

the Monday 5th November through to

the Saturday 10th November. We will

have stalls at Deception Bay Marketplace,

Burpengary Plaza, Drakes North Lakes

and Bunnings North Lakes. As a result of

this decision it was then decided that our

meeting due to be held on the 10th

November be shifted to the following

Saturday the 17th November.

MEETING

of the locations will be appreciated.

Clive Cass is preparing a roster and we

would like to be able to provide plenty

of notice on the outcome. A couple of

hours here and there can be a big help

if you can’t spare a whole day. This

milestone in our history. Funds

are being applied for through the

State Government Electorate

grants available for RSL Sub-

Branches to commemorate the

day. My thanks to Clive Cass

for raising the issue with the

Board and having the drive to

possibly see it happen.

We also have our Centenary of

Armistice Day Concert planned

by the Citizen’s Auxiliary at the

Narangba Valley State School

hall commencing at 1430hrs on

the 11th November. As part of

the funding application just

mentioned we aim to put on a

free bus across from Deception

Bay to the Narangba Valley

School hall and return after the

concert.

I hope as many members as

possible get along to appreciate

the great music provided by the

Brisbane Big Band combined

with students from several

schools in our area. The music

score has been especially

prepared for the concert along

the Armistice Day theme. Vic

and Donna have been putting in

the hard yards to ensure the

success of this event and are

deserving of our support.

The Brisbane North District

Armistice Day centenary event

is being held at Jamieson Park

Scarborough on Saturday 10th

November. Members of the

Grace College at Rothwell will

be re-enacting the signing of the

Armistice document that day.

can then cater for appointments

etc. and allow members to have a

break.

Stephen Boucher will be running

an extra Melbourne Cup BINGO

session on the Tuesday so there

will be holes in the Burpengary

team to be filled that day.

At this stage I have not heard if

we have a Bunnings sausage

sizzle to man as well. I have

applied for either Saturday 3rd or

Sunday 4th November.

Hopefully I will have some info

to confirm by the meeting next

Saturday.

It was decided at the Board

meeting, held on the 22nd

September, that the

Remembrance Day service this

year be held at the WW1

memorial on the foreshore

opposite the Library seeing that it

was the Centenary of Armistice

Day commemoration.

Permission has been sought from

the council to hold the service

there and also a request to have

the power connected so that we

can use the PA system.

The conduit for the proposed up-

light for the flagpole has been in

place for several months.

Negotiations are also underway to

provide, through the various

groups within the Deception Bay

area, some community activities

on the foreshore and the bay to

celebrate this significant

At the last meeting it was decided

that gift cards or food vouchers be

provide as the raffle prizes for the

Remembrance week raffle instead

of the food hampers as in previous

years. This would avoid any

possibility of any out of date food

being included. This was seen as an

excellent idea.

At the Board meeting it was

decided that it would be a separate

raffle for each stall with a $100 gift

or food voucher being the prize

available at each stall.

At the last meeting it was also

mentioned that there was a program

available to refurbish old hearing

aids for possible re use. Details

available on request.

Also at the last meeting it was

decided to make a donation of

$2000 to the 1st Signals regiment to

assist with costs of sending the

members chosen for a Rugby Tour

to England later this year. This

donation has become one of the

donations we usually make at the

end of the year to maintain our TCC

status. Suggestions for these

donation recipients were called for

at the last meeting. Hopefully there

will be some suggestions for

consideration at this meeting.

Member Craig Rohse has offered to

photograph each of the Sub-Branch

members at his newly equipped

studio. He has offered to provide 1

photo free to the member.

attended the Life Member luncheon at Kedron-Wavell Services Club. Sarah Fairall took me down and I thank her for doing that. It was very good meeting up with other Sub-Branch Life Members whom I got to know over the years as our delegate to District. President Peter brought me home afterwards. We are seeking volunteers for the stalls for Remembrance week 4-9th November. We will have stalls at Burpengary, Deception Bay, Drakes (North Lakes) and at Bunnings. Please let Clive Cass know of the times, stall and dates that you are available to assist. Even a couple of hours here and there enables the regulars to have a break. There maybe a sausage sizzle to man as well so keep that in mind if it eventuates. See you at the meeting on the 13th October. Doors open at 1:30pm for a 2pm start. Anything for the raffle will be appreciated. Stephen Boucher Deputy President

Hi Everyone. There hasn’t been a lot of discernible activity around the auxiliary of late, but rest assured it is all happening!!! The Armistice concert programming is moving along nicely with music scores now sorted to suit our young musicians’ ability and confidence of performance. I must reiterate that this is an event to endow these young people in the significance of this date. We have altered the set list numerous times to accommodate this process. In other words, the thing has been rewritten several times.(phew!!) We have rehearsal times booked at various venues in the lead up to the event, and are now pursuing the final technical touches to highlight the show. There is still a myriad of work to complete, and I am looking for-ward to getting a full night’s sleep at the end of it all. We have ordered 5000 flyers for dis-tribution, along with some street signage, and the highlight band will be completing the recorded tune for advertising by end of the holidays. We are finalising copyright for our official program and advertising ma-terial, and you should see some ads on social media etc. once this is complete. Clive Cass has requested a bus to transport folks from the Bay to the venue and back, and I have now sub-mitted this quote, so please utilise this service if it comes to fruition. Away from the concert, we have a meeting coming up on Friday 12th October at 1300 hrs, and a Bunnings BBQ on Wednesday the 31st Octo-ber. A few of us are also attending the BNDCoA 20th Anniversary luncheon on 16th October. I’m sorry I missed the drinks last Friday, but I had a phone to my ear sorting con-cert issues with my music director

Well our BINGO on Friday mornings has had good attendances with up to 18 players which is good for a small session. Must thank Liz Davies who sorts out the money for payouts which the players love. On a friendly note, we have farewelled Tom Maule who has been very good over the past 2 years doing the calling at the BINGO. Tom was well liked and loved by the players. It was his idea to give it up so we got him a small present and a farewell card with signatures from all the players wishing him well. Our Treasurer, Tony, has stepped in calling the numbers in his own way. He is well liked, as was Clive who also called when I was away. So if there is any member who would like to help as well calling the numbers please let me know. Next month we have the Melbourne Cup where we have an extra BINGO session on the Tuesday, 6th November. We will be charging $6.00 for a lunch and also the race will be seen on the big screen. If you are interested please contact me at our meeting on the 13th October. On the 27th September I

RSL DECEPTION BAY SUB BRANCH INC. P.O.BOX 78 DECEPTION BAY QLD. 4508

In the last newsletter I sought

some input into social

activities that might generate

some interest. So far there has

been no response. Remember

we have the vehicle so taking

a small group away for a

day’s outing is quite feasible.

Some Sub-Branches arrange

bus trips for their members.

Just needs someone to get

things organised and do some

planning.

Speaking of our vehicle—the

carport has been completed

and probably in good timing

with the hail storms that have

hit already recently.

It was also mentioned at the

last District meeting of a

member who had lain dead for

a week before someone

discovered him. I hope that

situation would never befall

any of our members and it

points us to a welfare exercise

(Continued from page 2) that each and every one of us

could participate in at minimal

cost.

We should take it upon

ourselves to ring a couple of

members each week,

particularly those members who

can’t attend our monthly

meeting, to ensure that they are

OK.

I aim to have a proposal on how

this might work at the next

meeting.

Our thanks to the ladies in the

Palm Lakes Resort who got

involved in knitting the poppies

for the District Council of

Auxiliaries project with the

wool sourced by Vic Boston-

Dart. They knitted 1540

poppies which was great effort.

Our membership now stands at

69 and the renewal period for

2019 is fast approaching.

Hopefully we can maintain that

number going into the new

year.

There should be a renewal

form in the next newsletter.

There will also be notice

regarding the AGM to be

conducted in February. The

executive positions up for

election are the President and

one Vice President. A

nomination form will also be

included with the notice of

meeting. Please give some

consideration to nominating

for either position if you have

some definite ideas on how

the Sub-Branch should direct

it’s energies into the future.

Well that’s about all I have for

the moment. We should have

Sgt Jeremy Arato from the

local PCYC along to this

meeting to speak to us.

See you at the meeting.
