Start

The dialysisers arrive at Boston House for their treatment session via hospital transport or on their own accord.

Some of them enter the building through the main door“Entrance B”

Patients who have difficulty walking go through a side door, which is opened via an intercom system. This entrance takes them directly into the renal unit corridor.

The patient washes their hands as they are now within the Renal Unit.

They sit down if there is a free seat and wait in the corridor/waiting area to be called through to the ward by a nurse.

The patient sits in the waiting area by the main entrance and waits to be called through to the renal unit.

When their bed and machine is ready they are called through to the renal unit, when they enter they wash their hands. They go straight to the ward.

As they enter the ward they are weighed so their target weight can be calculated

They take any books or dvd’s from the “library” they may want for during their treatment session.

The patient then receives their routine checks and tests and they are linked up to their dialysis machine by a nurse

They go through their goals with the consultant

They are then on dialysis for their required amount of time. During this time they can read, watch TV, listen to music. Sometimes, they do quizzes, or bingo etc..

After their required amount of time they are taken off their machine by a nurse. The weighed again

to see if they have lost their excess fluid

If the patient has responded well to their treatment, they leave the renal unit and wait in the waiting are by the main door for transport, or leave themselves straight away.

uncomfortable thing you can imagine”
