Tips from Your Local PGA ProWell it’s that time of year again but that’s no reason to stop playing until next spring. Here are a few tips to keep you going during the winter months.
Tip #1 – Be realistic! Understand that the ball isn’t going to go as far or spin as much in the cold. You also have to be prepared for the fact that you can’t go out there with the same strategy as a normal day. Be prepared for a tough day and stay mentally tough.Tip #2 – Keep your hands warm! This is the single most important tip for cold weather golf! Your hands are your only link to the club, and you need feel to play good golf. If your hands are frozen, you lose all your feel and your game will suffer, especially around the greens. Get yourself a nice pair of winter mitts and/or some hand warmers for your pockets. Wear the mitts whenever you aren’t hitting a shot, and take them off prior to hitting.Tip #3 – Cover your head and ears! Some say that between 7 to 55 percent of your body heat can be lost through your head. Whatever the science is behind it, it’s smart to cover your head and ears with a woolly hat.Tip #4 – Play a softer ball. Golf balls don’t have compression ratings any more since wound balls went away, but some balls are softer and in cold weather you’ll want a ball that is easier to compress. A hard rock ball like a Top Flite will feel like a steel ball bearing on a cold day, so opt for a softer option, like the Srixon ZStar.Tip #5 – Use more club! The ball doesn’t go as far in the cold. You might have to take one for the team and hit 2 more clubs on every approach shot, but at least you’ll be sure to get to the hole.Tip #6 – Dress in layers. It might keep you warm, but wearing your ski jacket will turn your golf swing into a slap shot. You simply can’t make a full turn in a jacket. Instead wear an insulating layer followed by a shirt and thin sweater or wind shell. This layered approach will keep you warm and still allow you to make a full golf swing.Tip #7 – Don’t stop drinking fluids! Many people will substitute water and Powerade with coffee and hot choc when it gets cold, and their game suffers. Your body still needs nutrients and hydration even when it’s cold, and coffee just doesn’t cut it. So, have your hot choc, but don’t forget to take a few sips of that sports drink every hole to stay properly hydrated.Tip #8 – Hit it solid! That should be a no-brainer and it’s not really a tip, since the goal of every golf shot should be solid contact. But seriously, you’ll know what I’m talking about the first time you take a mighty lash with a 3 iron and hit it a few grooves too low. Ouch!Tip #9 – Relish the challenge. Tom Watson got it. He loved playing in adverse conditions. You see, he knew that half the field was virtually eliminated before they even started because they dreaded being cold or getting wet and didn’t really want to be there. I love playing in harsh conditions for the same reason. If my opponent is hating life out there, I have the advantage because I’m much less likely to get rattled by the conditions. So relish the challenge and take solace in the fact that most everyone out there with you is miserable! At the very least, it will make you feel better.Look out for your Christmas Golf Lesson Offer dropping through your door real soon!!

Owens Carpets LtdSince it's inception in 1996 Owens Carpets has taken the lead in what was already a saturated retail area, and forged a niche service which has been greatly valued. Director Owen Lloyd appreciates the tough economic climate but is revelling in it's challenge ' for twenty five years the carpet trade has been a very competitive Market place but I have always believed there was a place for a first class carpet supplier offering a more personable service. A service offering the complete package, actually being able to see the samples within your own home before ordering and being afforded the time to mull over before choosing the actual floor covering is of great importance. The business has been developed by Owen and his fitting team to now offer the complete new carpet experience. Once the customer has selected their favourite new carpet/cushion flooring, then an unbeatable quotation is supplied, a suitable/ flexible fitting time is agreed upon. On the day of fitting Owens Carpets will remove/ replace , very carefully of course, any / all of the customers furniture. The existing old carpet can then be uplifted and disposed of whilst trimming any tight door bottoms. Of course then the new carpet can be expertly installed by the fully experienced fitters. 'Our aim is always customer focused, we simply offer the whole package, from start to installation'. Choosing you new carpet transforms your home more than any other item so we endeavour to make the experience as pleasurable as possible.'Treating yourself and your home to a beautiful new carpet is a great thing to do and we will reach and surpass our customer expectations'. Owen says 'It has taken many years to forge relationships with the countries leading wholesale groups and also keeping our overheads as low as possible by operating without the need for expensive retail premises has been the key to our success'.'We can now offer the lowest prices possible , and have also embraced the challenge to keep up to date with all the latest carpet technology, including the best underlays to offer but I a convinced that we now have the best advice and service available on the market'. Join the thousands of satisfied customers and transform your home!

A Word From Your MPSometimes politics is really frustrating. You begin with a clear idea of what you want to achieve and then an authority gets in your way. People sometimes ask what the point is in bothering if you are unlikely to achieve anything but I always disagree as without fighting you will never achieve anything so you have nothing to lose by trying.Like many motorists who use Jenny Walker’s Lane, I can never understand the logic as to why drivers cannot make a left turn down the Pattingham Road from Wrottesley Park Road or that equally they can use the road to get to Pattingham but not Codsall. Why was this ever agreed? The simple answer is that there is no logic or sense to this matter so alongside your Parish, District and County Councillor, David Bilson, I have been working to see if there is any way to overturn this. You can imagine my shock at the hysterics that we got from Wolverhampton City Council who basically at the suggestion that the ridiculous restriction be lifted began to have hysterical fits, threatening to close the lane permanently. I think they would very quickly discover that as many of their residents break the current restriction as ours do to get to Perton. This is often the great frustration as there has been no common sense, no logic in this matter. Just a few Councillors from Wolverhampton who refuse to let people from South Staffordshire use that lane.Despite this unreasonable and infantile behaviour we are going to continue our campaign to get this changed and encourage a little bit of common sense to start prevailing across the county border though as my Grandfather used to point out you should never assume that common sense is common at all! In this case I think this is very much a case in point. To contact me call 01902 701479 or 0207 219 7150

PERTON GARDENING CLUB NOVEMBER IN THE GARDEN
Now you can plant your tulip bulbs as there is a reduced risk of tulip fire, plant them 10--20cm apart and three or more times their own depth.Order seeds and plants from catalogues early to ensure you get the varieties you want.Buying bare root plants is often the cheapest way to obtain many woody plants, they are available in many garden centres and from mail order companies. If postal deliveries arrive before you are ready to plant them put them in a bucket of water for a few hours then heel them in the ground in a temporary position until you are ready to plant them in theirpermanent place.Cut back dahilias once they have been blackened by frost, lift, dry and store in a frost free place.Protect plant pots that are not frost resistant with bubble wrap.Insulate the greenhouse with bubble wrap and pick over all the plants once a week removing any dead leaves and flowers.Lift and divide rhubarb plants using the same method as that for ornamental perennials. Replant with buds just above the soil surface.Tidy away the remains of summer crops to the compost heap and harvest vegetables as needed.Sow broad beans and hardy varieties of peas to ensure an early crop next year.Float a ball on your pond to prevent water icing over in freezing conditions.PLEASE REMEMBER always check bonfire sites for wildlife before you light any fires.

Takeaway Review – Pizzarelli's PizzeriaWith lots of big pizza chains around it was lovely to find a local independent pizzeria that makes fresh, delicious pizzas. Situated just a few miles from Perton, Pizzarelli's Pizzeria is a hidden gem and does what it says on the tin, making great tasty pizza.Without complicating matters they offer a range of 12 pizzas to suit all tastes, from meat eaters to vegetarians and including create your own from a wide range of toppings. To complement the pizzas they also have a good range of side orders. The full menu can be found on their website. We opted for the Family Deal. This consisted of 2 extra large (14”) pizzas, we chose Hawaiian and Meat Feast, 2 sides, chicken wings and mozzarella sticks, and a 1.5ltr bottle of pop. This was all for the bargain price of £18.99. We chose to collect our order and it was ready exactly when they said it would be. The pizzas had a fresh springy dough with a good quality and quantity of topping, very Mediterranean in style, and comfortably fed 6 adults (and a very hungry 3 year old!) On top of this the chicken wings were juicy and succulent and plentiful, the mozzarella sticks offered a nice alternative accompaniment. Pizzerelli's Pizzeria are definitely moving in the right direction and offer a great alternative to major pizza chains offering fresh food cooked to order. We will definitely return to explore the menu further.
