ask the pastorQuestion: Why should I get baptized?

Baptism was modeled by Jesus Christ. He insisted that he needed to be baptized and when he did, there was a spiritual impartation that was a part of that experience. What we see at Christ baptism is a type of New Testament salvation that Jesus described to Nicodemous in John chapter 3:3-5. Jesus said except one is born of the water and the spirit he cannot see or enter the kingdom of God. !Baptism is minimized by some, however we see that not only did Jesus get baptized, he also commanded that his disciples would baptize disciples. In every instance of the Gospel preached, you see people getting baptized. !Baptism was very important to Jesus. Baptism was a priority to his disciples in their ministry. Baptism should be no less important today. I have seen countless times where people received the baptism of the Holy Ghost while being baptized. !!In the Bible, baptism was always by total immersion. The actual word baptized means to totally immerse. Every person in the New Testament was baptized was totally immersed in Jesus name. !!!Every person in the Bible baptized by the early church was baptized in Jesus Name. Peter, Philip, Paul and others. When baptized and baptizing others they would call on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. This explains the great commission. Baptism in the Name of Jesus is fulfilling what Jesus commanded in Matthew 28:19. Father is not a name, Son is not a name, Holy Ghost is not a name. Jesus is the only name under heaven that will save anyone. His name is above every name that there is. The obeyed the great commission and preached and baptized in Jesus Name. Acts 2, 8, 9, 10, 19 !Paul was baptized in the Name of Jesus. He baptized his converts in the Name of Jesus. Every other account of people being baptized in the New Testament was in the Name of Jesus. Paul went so far as to re-baptize believers who had not been baptized in Jesus Name. Read Acts 19 !Baptism is a part of the transformational process that is the New Birth. Paul said this, !“Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.” Romans 6:4 & 5 !It has been said that Baptism is an outward sign of an inward grace. Baptism is that and more so much more. !“Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” Acts 2:38

How Should Baptism be done?

Baptism in Jesus Name, why do you insist on that?

Have you ever had one of those times that you just had the blues settle in on you?

The Prescription Rather than crying woe is me, aim that emotion in the direction of God. It will not be long before you focus your emotions and feelings away from yourself and towards God that there will be a key change in your perceptions. From the black keys on the piano of your soul wailing out the minors of the blues, you will find that the clear strong sound of

those major chords of praise will begin to resound in your heart. What is wrong with me? Listen to the words of David. “Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.” Psalms 34:5 !David talked to himself and said, "Self, what is wrong with you. Soul, why are you whining? Praise God!"

Tragedy + Insurance = Blessing In a conversation with an evangelist friend of mine the other day, he was sharing with me a tragedy had struck his home. A water leak had happened on his roof while he was on the road. The ceiling had fallen in. His master-bedroom flooded, and a potentially big and costly mess waited for him. My question was, "Do you have insurance?". His response was a happy yes. He met the adjuster and he learned his house sustained a lot of wind damage. The result of the visit was that he will get a new roof, a new coat of paint, new bedding and everything will be made better and new. !My observation: Damage and trouble that is insured will often leave you better than before. !The beauty of this is even more true when serving God. It's not insurance I speak of but assurance I point you to. !Blessed Assurance Physical, mental, spiritual, emotional, financial and family pain and hurt will gather on the horizon of your world. It will blow into your world and bring loss and destruction. You will survey that and feel that certain pain and heartbreak. There is an assurance for the child of God. Blessed assurance. The beauty of assurance is you can benefit from a policy of assurance even if you did not have it in place when the

storm came. Insurance only works if you buy it before the storm. Assurance is not purchased with money, and it can be secured after the fact. !Cry unto God. Call out on His Name. Jesus, My savior and healer... Help Me! Jesus, My helper and deliverer... Have mercy on Me! Jesus, my God and keeper, I need you now!! !Lamentation aimed at the Lord will produce peaceful mediation and ultimately will bring you into the songs of praise. Today, no matter the trouble take your spiritual multivitamin. !Praise, Worship, Thanksgiving, Repentance, Forgiveness and Petition It will clear your eyes, unburden your heart, help you see beyond the blue hues of the storm, and grant you clarity of vision for the goodness and grace of God! !Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine! O what a foretaste of glory divine! Heir of salvation, purchase of God, born of his Spirit, washed in his blood. This is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior all the day long; this is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior all the day long. This is my story, this is my song, praising my savior all the day long.

A Taste of !Honey!

"...wherefore he (Jonathon) put forth the end of the rod that was in his hand, and dipped it in an honeycomb, and put his hand to his mouth; and his eyes were enlightened." !"..see, I pray you, how mine eyes have been enlightened, because I tasted a little of this honey." !I thought of this story this morning. I have been meeting a pastor friend for prayer the past few days and he brought some honey that we have mixed with hot water. !I was walking around the church and sipped on that drink and I could feel the zap of the honey.. in my eyes. !It was in that moment that the story came to me. !That little taste of honey gave him the strength to lead a weak and weary army to Victory. !We all can feel weary at times in the struggle of life and become weary in our minds in the middle of the battle. God will send us through a place where the honey will drop down around us as in this story and we will gain a second wind and fresh sight to see it through till victory. !I imagine that is what the Word of the Lord was to Paul when he received a Word from God. !God did not send him a long letter, but a simple statement that gave Paul a different way of looking at his trouble, and he had the strength to continue. !"My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness." !God did not send him deliverance, but God sent him a Word that brought strength to him. The battle was not over for Jonathon, but the Honey gave him the strength and vision to see it to the end.

You may not gain the relief you want, but God will send you the strength you need to endure. Not just endure, but to endure with joy. !Look at Paul's Response to the Word of God. "Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong." 2 Corinthians 9:10 !May this or some other thing from God be like a taste of Honey and enlighten your eyes. !Don't wait till the Battle is Over, Shout Now. We know in the end we are going to win. !Like Winnie the Pooh stuck in the honey tree, there is a place in Jesus that though we are stuck in a precarious place there is a hidden sweetness and strength that makes us glad we are in that difficult place. !Paul makes the case he celebrates his challenges because in them he sees the Glory of God. !Have challenges? It is in those challenges where we find God and his working so real, so close and so personal. !The Promise of God to His People was a land that flowed with milk and honey. !To have milk and honey, someone has to be willing to milk the cows and rob the hives. Life is what you make it. You can complain about the manure of the cows and the sting of the bees or you can milk the cows and steal the honey. !Experience the best of what God has for you by living in an attitude of faith and walking toward His promises.

1. Sure, God’s looking at my heart, but everyone else sees the outside.!

If God is on the inside, my outside will show it. He’s too powerful–too big–to hide in some invisible corner of my heart.!I can tell a lot about others’ values by what they wear. Shouldn’t they be able to look at me and know Who calls the shots in my life?!

2. Modesty isn’t about covering my body; it’s about revealing my dignity.!I respect myself; I am too special to be put on display. I dress to honor God because I am confident–I am sure of who I am and what I stand for. I have a healthy level of self-esteem; I don’t have to resort to flaunting my body for attention.!

3. I disrespect men when I dress carelessly or when I know I may distract them or tempt them to have impure thoughts.!Sure, men are responsible for their actions. But if someone were to flash a hundred grand in my face, would I not have at least a fleeting thought about taking it or about what I could do with that kind of money? How can I blame men for a mental response that only comes naturally?!I don’t want to behave selfishly; I know that God doesn’t take it lightly when I intentionally cause others to sin.!

4. Modesty is as much about attitude and conduct as it is about clothes.!When the people at the restaurant one table over can’t hear their conversation over my talking and laughter . . . When my flashy accessories are louder than the youth band’s drum set . . . When all my social

media posts are specially designed to showcase my utter awesomeness . . .!I am not being modest.!5. Being modest is one way I fulfill the greatest commandments:!!To love the Lord with all my heart, soul, and mind, and to love my neighbor as myself.!I know that if I love God, I will behave in accordance with His Word. If I love those around me, I will dress in a way that respects them, promotes unity, and encourages wholesome attitudes.!Wearing the correct dress for any occasion is just a matter of good manners.!- Loretta Young, actress!!6. It’s important to invest as much time on my inward beauty as I do on my outward appearance.!!My beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles, showy jewelry, and expensive clothes. It should be that of my inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great value in God’s eyes.!(I Peter 3:3-4)!!I know that outward beauty is fleeting. Inward beauty never fades.!!Written by !Jennifer Smith!

The Most Misquoted

Scripture In the Bible

Page 11: Perspectives

"Judge not, that ye be not judged."  !Drunks quote it.  Rock Stars quote it.  Politicians quote it.  Molesters quote it.  The unfaithful, untruthful, and unrighteous all have a favorite scripture.  !!One scripture lifted up out of the scriptures can give a person the wrong idea and concept. Judgment, discernment, and distinction is not only important for righteous people to practice, it is a divine responsibility. The scripture is full of diagnosis and conclusions on certain things.  To state and quote those conclusions is not judging, but being factual.  If those statements illicit this broken record of a reply, "Judge Not..."  It is evidence someone needs to repent.! "Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world?"  1 Corinthians 6:2 !!I am not speaking of uncharitable, unkind, or cruel condemnation.  ! I am speaking to the scriptural fact that judgment, honest, fair, righteous, and loving discernment and decisions must be made by those who are saved. !!Scripture teaches us that we disqualify ourselves from certain things by moral and public failure.   !!“For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.  But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world. “ #1 Corinthians 11:31!!In Proverbs, we are taught that a wise man loves correction, but a fool hates correction. !!When a person has given themselves to sin, it is the responsibility of the Church and the ministry to correct them and even rebuke them if necessary. In this generation, people are looking for coaches and not pastors. Many are looking for fortune cookie

prophecies and not prophets.  They are looking for someone else to make excuses for them, rather than a teacher to lead them into the path of righteousness.!!There is a time for correction! Those that are righteous and want to be saved will love a man or woman of God that will speak the truth in love.  Rebuke and correction are a gift to the saint.  To the wicked and rebellious, it reveals them for what they are. The church must not be silenced by sinners quoting scriptures. Satan himself quoted scriptures to Jesus in His temptation.  When scripture is used to misdirect or deceive, it must be answered with scripture that speaks to the situation. !In conclusion: !God warned the Man of God. If you see a righteous person doing wicked, if you don't warn him, his blood will be on your hands. If you see a wicked person sinning, if you warn him, you save yourself. !Ezekiel 3:19-21! If someone is bold enough in their love for you to correct you and even to go so far as rebuke you, you would be wise to embrace that person and thank God for them. !!Correction is a sign of true love.   !God said it this way, "As many as I love, I chasten."!!Preaching, believing and standing for the truth of the Word of God is not being judgmental. !!All things must be motivated by love. To speak the truth in love is the delicate balance that we all must strive toward.!!We must not allow the spirit of this world to silence and mute the witness and preaching that has been the hallmark of every true man and woman of God. !

Unity is a creation of man, an atmosphere created when people choose to work in cooperation through submission, shared vision and desire... often cooperatively obeying the Scripture. !It's not about ME. It's not about YOU. It's about Him, His Kingdom, His Purpose. !I must decrease, prefer you and work toward your benefit. If we both, we all do that together... that is the essence of unity. !In this atmosphere of unity, all men will know we are his disciples because the love that we have one toward another. !We see the spirit of this in Joseph. His vision, dream and purpose was fulfilled in participating in the dreams and visions of others. When he did the best of his ability to see the good of others increased, the favor of God elevated him t o a p l a c e o f p r o m i n e n c e a n d responsibility. !This attitude of serving the good of those around him finally brought him to be the second most powerful man in all the kingdom. Even in that role, he was serving the dream of another and working toward the good of others. !Position of Service In that position of service he saw that dream that he had as a child played out before his very eyes. His dream that

looked as those his brothers were bowing to him, it's fulfillment was in his serving them, blessing them, saving them. !The miracle that you are looking for will be seen when you quit focusing on yourself and start focusing on the good and God in others. As long as you are trying to make it happen on your own, you will find yourself frustrated. !If it is a God dream, vision and purpose... it is to big for you to make happen. What you will need to do is be sure to faithful, ethical, diligent and persistent in the things you can do. !What does that mean? "And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ." Colossians 3:23-24 !"Be sincere in your love for others. Hate everything that is evil and hold tight to everything that is good. Love each other as brothers and sisters and honor others more than you do yourself." Romans 12:10 " Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God." Ephesians 5 How powerful is Unity? Unity of mankind caused God to come down and confuse the languages of men. Babel. The root of cultural diversity and

One Thing God Will Not Create

Page 13: Perspectives

the dispersal of mankind came from a godless unity that was focused solely on human goals. "And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech. So the Lord scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city." Genesis 11 It is not a mistake that when the church was born, it was born in an atmosphere of unity. Unity of obedience. Unity of Purpose. Unity of Promise. The divine sign given on that day was they all spoke in spirit empowered tongues that caused men of all nations to understand the Mighty works of God. Godless Unity brought confusion of languages, God Centered Unity brought an understanding to all men in every language the mighty works of God.

What would happen if we chose to obey this pattern and together seek the purpose of God. !Miracles Happen... When we are together seeking in obedience. When we choose to build the atmosphere of Unity, God will come and fill it with his presence and promise. The first step is demonstrated in one of the last acts of Jesus Christ. He took a towel and washed his disciples feet. Though he was Lord of all, he took up the role of serving. The first brick in unity is found in the humble and meek act of serving one another. Your first step toward healing and progress will be found when you turn your eyes of yourself and begin to seek ways to help and bless others. When we do that together, we will witness the beg inn ing o f ano ther g rea t awakening.
