MODULE 1:

KNOWING AND UNDERSTANDING ONESELF DURING MIDDLE AND LATE

ADOLESCENCE

UNIT 1 : SELF- DEVELOPMENT

Page 2: Personal Development.-Self-Development

BIG QUESTION:

How can understanding yourself pave the way to self-acceptance and

better relationship with others?

Page 3: Personal Development.-Self-Development

Imagine yourself looking into the

mirror.

Page 4: Personal Development.-Self-Development

What do you see?

Page 5: Personal Development.-Self-Development

Do you see your ideal self...

Page 6: Personal Development.-Self-Development

or your actual self?

Page 7: Personal Development.-Self-Development

IDEAL SELF

it is the self that you aspire to be.

Page 8: Personal Development.-Self-Development

IDEAL SELF

It is the one that you hope will possess

characteristics similar to that of a mentor of some other worldly

figure.

Page 9: Personal Development.-Self-Development

ACTUAL SELF

It is the one that you actually see.

Page 10: Personal Development.-Self-Development

ACTUAL SELF

It is the self that has characteristics that you

were nurtured or, in some cases, born to

have.

Page 11: Personal Development.-Self-Development

refers to your awareness of yourself.

Page 12: Personal Development.-Self-Development

The actual self is built on

self-knowledge.

Page 13: Personal Development.-Self-Development

is derived from social interactions that provide insight

into how others react to you.

Page 14: Personal Development.-Self-Development

The actual self is who we actually are.

Page 15: Personal Development.-Self-Development

It is how we think, how we feel, look ,

and act.

Page 16: Personal Development.-Self-Development

The actual self can be seen by others, but because we have no

way of truly knowing

Page 17: Personal Development.-Self-Development

how others view us, the actual self is our

self-image.

Page 18: Personal Development.-Self-Development

The ideal self, on the other hand, is

how we want to be.

Page 19: Personal Development.-Self-Development

It is an idealized image that we have

developed over time,

Page 20: Personal Development.-Self-Development

based on what we have learned and

experienced.

Page 21: Personal Development.-Self-Development

The ideal self could include components of what our parents

taught us,

Page 22: Personal Development.-Self-Development

what we admire in others, what our

society promotes, and what we think is our best interest.
