“Cosmetics” higher education on offerin the region is adapted to the needs
of sector’s companiesThe Centre region has a wide selection of courses on offer,
dispensed at its two universities (Orleans and Tours), four engineering schools and various technical sixth-form
colleges, and covering a whole range of fields including biology, chemistry, physiochemistry and pharmacy.
Courses are also available that target the Cosmetics sectormore specifically, such as the professional degree in industrial
cosmetology prepared at the University of Tours, in additionto which the IMT group (Institut des Métiers et des
Technologies des produits de santé – Institute of health product Professions and Technologies) has a number of
courses on offer that prepare for professions in production,such as the OTPCI (Opérateur Technique en Pharmacie
Cosmétique Industrielle –technical operator in industrial cosmetic pharmacy). The Herboretum School in Saint-Ay also
teaches a course entitled “la Cosmétique et le Naturel”.
“Cosmetic Valley”, a competitiveness cluster devoted to the sciences of
Beauty and WellbeingCosmetic Valley in Chartres brings together the full range ofknow-how required in the perfumes and cosmetics industry,
mainly located in the Centre, Ile-de-France and HauteNormandie regions. All professions in this vertically-
structured sector are represented, from cultivation of plantsto packaging, analysis and logistics activities.
Research and DevelopmentThe Centre region possesses high-level public research
laboratories in such varied fields as biology, chemistry and genetics.

In 2014, the IBC (Insitut des Biomédicaments et de laCosmétique - Cosmetics and Biopharmaceuticals
Institute) will be opening its doors, a body with an international calling set up by the Government,
the Universities of Tours and Orleans, the IMT Group and the CROUS (Centre Régional des Œuvres Universitaires et
Scolaires - regional centre for university and school affairs).With innovative technical expertise at its disposal, it will be
devoted to providing new courses in Bioproduction based onlearning through apprenticeship.
Private research focusing on cosmetics and perfumes is alsovery much a feature of the Centre region. The Expanscience
(Mustela) and Shiseido International France laboratories, forexample, both have R&D laboratories on their respective
sites, each with a staff of 60 people. In addition, the LVMHGroup, which has a research centre on its Saint-Jean-de-
Braye site (250 employees), has invested 30 million euros inthe creation of a 12,000 m² HQE building which, in
mid-2012, will be housing a research centre shared by the whole of its Perfumes and Cosmetics branch.
